Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

I noticed yesterday evening there was some talk about the UP activating on it's own without a scan, we picked up on it in chat while we were doing the livestream and once it finished we went off to do some testing on it. Under the instructions of Bungalo we tried as many possible variations of the test as we could and have come up with guaranteed ways of making it happen.

1. Drop UA
2. Use discovery scanner
3. Drop UP

or even

1. Drop UA
2. Use discovery scanner
3. Scoop up UA
4. Drop UP

In both situations just after dropping the UP it disables you ship but (and I'm surprised this wasn't picked up on more) it does not play the audio to you! It is worth noting that it does not even need to be the same person, 1 person can drop and scan the UA and another drop the UP and it happens.

This kinda sounds suspiciously like a bug doesn't it? (introduced with the alien interdiction and/or 2.2.03).

Calling Michael Brookes! I appreciate you don't want to give too much away but could you post one knock to acknowledge you've read this, two if you'd rather not comment and three if it sounds like a bug to you.

Thanks! :)

I have History #13
This data is extremely exciting commander. contained in this package is information regarding the gaurdians use of Faster Than Light Communication.

Almost the entirety of the guradians' society was devoted to researching interstellar travel and communication. A breakthrough in faster-than-light communication was made before the arks reached their destinations, but the information was transmitted to the arks while they were still in transit, allowing the colonists to establish faster-than-light communications when they landed. Consequently the interstellar network was developed extremely quickly.

The arks kept the population at a managable level long enough for the guardians to develop Hyperspace technology, which fuelled their expansion into the galaxy. The project also cemented the cooperative city-state model, which would serve the Guardians until their ultimate demise
You've found a whole bunch that are new, which combos are you using?

I can't help but think this is a hint...

I agree with you. We probably must search a place where we can see the moon waxing and waning. The same place where we can see the two states of the same moon.

Server restart? I think they addressed the obelisk message bugs. Remember the clock is ticking to complete the mission.

Is anyone else scanning an oblisk and not getting a response.

I have scanned oblisk 3 several times with the orb only in my hold and I get no mission update message at all

Random really, I tried writing them down, but it seemed like a lot came as lag after while I was sitting in my ship.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the combinations are player and/or instance based, and therefor we cannot really make any assumptions when considering what works for someone may not at all work for another.

I am almost sure that the ruins are a comm station.

This is truely fascinating data commander, as an engineer myself I have to admit I'm highly curious about the Guardians technology. It seems that the guardians had a particular fascination with geometric shapes, which they used to illustrate connections between themselves and the world around them. This predilection manifested itself in their technology as well - specifically their monolith network. With this data and the help of the galactic community we've partially mapped the monolith network, which formed the backbone of their communications technology, and discovered that they too are arranged in geometric patterns. Whilst this does not give us full access to the network, I believe it is the first step to unlocking the entire system and MAYBE MORE

The ruins are a comm station and the shape tells us where to look next. The shape and monolith disposition indicate the other end of the phone line where we must go.

the active obelisks have changed, i repeat the active obelisks have changed, there are active obelisks that yesterday were not

This is true. And I'm not getting anything when I scan now - no data materials, just a log note saying ancient civilisation data downloaded. No message from Ram Tah.

edit: back to normal obelisk locations after reboot. Still missing messages from Ram Tah.

Funny part of that is that if those specific ruins are the final destination point of the guardians trip.

With that we could be able to communicate to the source point of their civilization that could be located on a very distant part of the galaxy.

I have in mind the permit locked region near beagle point.

More Importantly it proves their Generation Ships Arrived at their Destination. And then constructed their Hyperdrives :)

This new info - that the Guardians developed FTL technology after the Arcs left home - might suggest that the Ruins are an intermediate landing place where one of the Arcs was upgraded by its occupants from sub-light to FTL capability. A temporary dry-dock, if you like. That would suggest that the other two (if there were three) did something similar within some reasonable range of their home planet before continuing their journeys (to the Rift etc?). Therefore the other ruins should be relatively close to the one we know about, even if the three Arcs went in totally different directions.

Edit: and the communications revelation could also direct us to where the home world is, and possibly where the intended FTL destination was.
