Beta 2 breaks Oculus Rift support.

So, I have just tried beta 2, and I have to assume that Oculus Rift support was not play tested again for this build ?

New issues as off beta 2:

1. FOV is off.
2. Stereo separation is broken now, i.e. no 3D depth
3. Cannot change resolution once it is locked on one. The "apply" button in the graphics options won't apply resolution changes.

Basically, the Rift is unusable in this state.

Old issues introduced with alpha 4.0

4. There is still the "headbob" thing during ship movement that made the experience more uncomfortable than alpha 3.4
5. You still can't select anything in the galaxy map, because there is an invisible bounding box that prevents you from moving your mouse onto the menu items. (same is true for the graphics menu, you can't select "apply" with the mouse) In other words, it seems the UI isn't aligned properly with the mouse input while in the Rift.

Resolved Issue

6. At least the galaxy map now has headtracking. Though, I can't really say if it is implemented properly, as the lack of stereo separation and the wrong FOV makes it a little hard to assess.

It is a real shame. Alpha 3.4 was absolutely brilliant in the Rift. It was so good that I can't imagine playing the game without it anymore. Hence, I can't wait to finally get back into it.

And guys, before you start telling me that ...."this is just beta"......"Rift is just a peripheral"....."it will be done when the game comes out". I just want to reassure you that I am of course aware of this, but I am just trying to provide feedback as quickly as possible, since the Rift is not an easy peripheral to implement correctly. It is better to start working on it sooner rather than trying hack it in after the fact.

If you find any other Rift related issues, post it in this thread and I'll add it to the items listed above.

Threads mereged.

Guy's, please take a moment to look about before creating another thread. ;)

That goes for Duplicate threads as well.

Holy crap that thread was merged quickly ! I juuuust posted it.

Elite is no longer using true stereoscopic rendering, and is instead using the much inferior image off-set during post-processing. To be honest it makes the game look very, very bad.

Hopefully this is just a bug, or temporary. Has anyone else experienced this?

I am not sure this is a different rendering technique, rather I suspect that both eyes are currently rendering exactly the same image, i.e there is no stereo separation at all and the FOV is wrong. I honestly hope this is a bug, as the current implementation effectively makes the Rift unusable.

I know......;) Please, do have a look around first though. The forum alway's goes into meltdown with new duplicate threads when a new release comes out and this one is no exception. :D

What happened here? Oculus Rift mode has been completely destroyed! There is no 3D separation, and FOV is extremely low, everything feels zoomed.

This is of major concern. I too bought a rift just for this game.

I wonder if this was their solution to the framerate dips. I also wonder if the offset version is what they demoed at E3. Doesn't seem like it with all the praise it got for it's Rift implementation.

Raise a ticket for it and describe what's happening.

I did ! There was nothing when I started typing my post. At least not that I could see. Anyway, if I missed it, I'll be more vigilant in the future.

Told you it moved quick around here. :D

The same problem here.. From the latter update it seems to be that they have changed something with the perception of the scale. Everything seems to be too big. Before the update the scale simply it was perfect. I hope that they arrange it as soon as possible.

I just filed a ticket and pointed to this thread. Oh my God... how can something so big escape to internal QA? I hope this wasn't included on the E3 build...

guys........ this game is going to be a VR flagship game.

sure mayhap it is broken now, but really.............. panic much??? ;)

I will bet my next paycheck (its not much so dont get your hopes up!!!) this WILL be fixed.

perhaps it is just an issue with the new rift SDK which has borked a few things.

ticket the problem and go back to single screen for a few days.

I suspect there isn't very much play testing conducted on the Rift for some reason :(. Shame really. I would volunteer my services, if it would help catch things like these earlier. I am sure most of the Rifters on these forums would.

Well, like I said earlier best to fix these issues sooner rather than to let them pile up. And to be fair, the Rift implementation has been deteriorating since alpha 3.4 :( Of course, I hope that this game will be a VR flagship game. IT certainly has the potential for it.

That isn't the case, we're not seeing this issue here. Are you able to screen capture so we can see what you're seeing?
