Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

I'd love to search for more sites, but i couldn't even see the current site until i was within about 2km above it. If it wasn't for the coordinates, i'd have never even found it.

I'd have to be flying so low that i'd have a terrible view and chance of finding anything.

No idea why my draw distance is so low. Maybe I need to do something with my settings.

Historical Data Point 12 mentions 3 large arks being launched from their homeworld, so it would make sense with 3 sites.

One of those arks didn't accidentally crash on a small insignificant blue-green planet orbiting an unregarded yellow sun out in the outer spiral arm of the Galaxy, 2 million years ago, by chance? I suspect one of their data points will identify an ancient alien telephone sanitiser. :p

Has anyone searched this thread for "ruins"? I know it will pull up a huge load of posts, but I'm convinced someone posted about finding a "second" or "new" set of ruins somewhere (possibly before Xmas?). It could have been a mistake or a troll but it might be worth checking out. I am useless with the search tool.

I believe that would be MrJupp who apparently knows where the other 2 ruin sites are (one near the Horsehead Nebula and the other out towards the Formidine Rift) without providing any evidence to either demonstrate how he knows this (beyond saying "it's in the lore") or actually having found them and posted direct evidence.

I believe in giving anyone the benefit of the doubt but I take most of what he posts with a great degree of skepticism.

That said, given Ram Tah's continued use of the plural "Ancient Ruins", and the information derived from the obelisks so far, I do think that there are other ruins out there we haven't found. Given that the data from the obelisks indicates that the Guardians used a Glyph based language derived from hand signals they used when hunting I did start to think that the flashing lights on the obelisks were spelling out these glyphs (which, I assume is what Ram Teh's translation matrix is deciphering)

Now thinking along those lines, I took a look (random googling) across examples in Sci-fi literature where glyph based languages are a central plank of the story - Ted Chaing's "The Story of you Life" being the main one, but also Iain M Bank's Marain Language of The Culture.

That led me to this website which describes Marain - When you look at the 3x3 grid used, what does that remind you of?

It reminds me of this : https://ixalon.github.io/elitedangerous/ - each hexagon of lights seems to be split into 6 isosceles triangles , which each triangle having a specific sequence of lights.

I reckon that this might be the key to figuring out where any additional ruins might be (or maybe the eventual destination of the ark ships?) however I guess we need some sort of rosetta stone in order to translate the glyphs.

If and when I can find time I will take a look at this, but having never been to the ruins in game I'm not really familiar with what things look like on the ground. Assuming there was a puzzle at the ruins for us to solve (which seems reasonable given the half hints we've had to drag kicking and screaming from FD over the last couple of months) I wonder if that could be the key.

Does the same sequence of light appear on each Obelisk, or are they all different?

I think we were meant to find this first site. ;) That the data chunk distribution is in the middle of the possible range suggests it might be a geographical halfway house.

How do we find the other ones? they could all be on the same planet, or on the same system, there is no way to tell.

Maybe is someone smart could decipher its language with the newly provided clues, we could reinterpret the overhead map.

There is the Eafots CG that was broken !!

Count as open. It seems that if there are multiple commanders then different obelisks are active.

Maybe to encourage players to socialise and work as a team or something the Guardians thought up.

Prob a bit of both.

Good point. I've just started looking in a private group, but if any obelisks light up after I obtain half a dozen data then I might conclude something else is up.

Pentagonal numbers 37, 186, 853 in one of the obelisks but not follow sequence of all

I agree, but I think that has to do with whatever it is that's in The Formidine Rift (Which has apparently been there since the game was in Beta) - I don't think that's related to the Alien Ruins. To my mind there are 3 central "mysteries" in Elite:

1. The Unknown Artifacts / Probes / Alien Vessel interdiction / Barnacles (I suspect these are all related somehow)

2. The Ancient Ruins - I not that FD seems to avoid calling them "alien ruins" in game. I can't figure out the significance of that

3. The Formidine Rift and Salome, and whatever is there. Apparently scarier than Thargoids.

I'm moderately certain they are largely unrelated. In fact I'm fairly ure that the data being unearth at the Ancient ruins indicates that the GUardians were either wiped out by, or became the AIs they invented. Maybe the AIs are the Guardians?

I found

<!-- I'm not sur*static* -->

Don't tell me that FDev are going to start hiding clues in their forum code now. I wonder if the "they" mentioned is us, the community, or The Thargoids scanning ships. Damn you Fdev. So, I guess we need to start checking daily to see if there is more to this conversation over time

I still think (as do probably many others) that the ancient ruins people or "Guardians" may be related to The Missing. The increasing amount of info from these data scans suggest an increasingly apparent similarity with humans - they may be former humans, Missing humans, extraterrestrial humans, or even precursors to all of the above and ourselves.

Considering the entry saying "As well as biological warfare agents, they also created creatures expressly for use in battle, and these remained effective even into the modern era." We could end up learning that the Guardians created the Thargoids, in order to battle the AIs.

OK, I'm posting this from my phone (at work) so apologies but I don't have any fancy screen shots or anything, just some observations from my time last night.

I went to solo, grabbed two of each item. While I was driving around I got close to some active obelisks but I didn't scan any. I was receiving the sorry try again message just for driving near the obelisks.
I then headed to Mobius. I figured I'd make a little spreadsheet to keep track of what I was doing. Before I left my ship i was credited with 6 decoded data entries. If I had to guess I would say that as I had the items in my cargo hold (albeit on my ship) I was getting credit for scans other CMDRS were completing.
I started my scans (casket, casket+casket, casket+orb) and got 4 hits that I assume were from my scans based on the timing. I had a few crashes and decided to park up and start typing up the data entries and then more decoded entries started popping up. At this point I have no idea if these are delayed from my scans or if simply hanging out with a hold full of items will let someone mooch of all the other CMDRS in the area.

I'm currently sat on 26 million and I think I only got 4 successful scans. I don't want a freebie, I want to figure this damn thing out. The problem is right now I'm not convinced any of this is working as intended.

Well for you nerds out there myself included, the overhead view is obviously a map of some sorts, now we have clues to state that the guardians did stuff in triangles and trig and anything else that uses combinations of 3's perhaps now we can measure distances and plot the star map with that in mind?

Yeah I'm always active with Formadine stuff.

I'm sure there has already been 3 ruins sites found though. Is it on the front page can't seem to find it.

It could be they created us to battle the Thargoids

Its just about the code below it.

According to CMDR Arc's post, it's new and not just about thread info/ignoring.
I'll post this here in case it gets missed.

Not sure if folks have seen this, but if you inspect the code on this forum (Right click, view source in Chrome) this appears in the text, in green....It was not there a few days ago...

<!-- ...Are..are they searching for something? -->

I'm not sure though, never bothered to CTRL+U the forum before.

Half-panicked and started checking the ED and Galnet sites for messages in the comments
