Has anyone noticed that the ruins seem to have changed a bit since earlier? I'm looking at a screenshot with the obelisks and artefacts etc marked out, but the obelisks are different now than they are in that screenie. Top left, for example, there is only one set of obelisks in the screenshot, but now there are two sets... Am I crazy or has something happened here??

Cheers CMDRs, and good luck out there.

Yes the Live Ruin from Pre Patch has been merged with the Beta Ruin so there are far more Obelisks

Someone was collecting system names and dates and compiling a spreadsheet. I can't find it for the life of me, though. I will edit this post if I find it.

That isn't the one I was looking for, but it works!!

I will add an extra tab sorting the information by date. May make your work easier.

Im looking to see if the relic placements match anything significant in regards to the crashed ships star systems positioning after i saw it was mentioned earlier that the arks and ships MAY be related.. or the same thing. I may be a bit paranoid. but relics 2, 3 and 4 look a little similar shape when you look at the bookmarks for the crashed ships in galaxy map. Or is that just ridiculous?

I'd love to search for more sites, but i couldn't even see the current site until i was within about 2km above it. If it wasn't for the coordinates, i'd have never even found it.

I'd have to be flying so low that i'd have a terrible view and chance of finding anything.

No idea why my draw distance is so low. Maybe I need to do something with my settings.

Was the same for me, even with the coordinates I had a hard time finding the base. I don't know how we are supposed to find other bases in one month...

I'm giving up for now, just too buggy.
Disappearing messages, crashes, delayed messages, ggrrr lol.

And whereas I thought earlier that the same scan combination worked for everyone, I can now prove it doesn't (don't know if it's solo, group, open or straight rng).

I'll come back when I'm less frustrated about it all later :)

Yeah I'm in Eafots waiting the fix.

May be they are waiting for this CG to finish though.

Hmm it may be people getting muddled or making stuff up but im sure I've heard of 2 other sites.

Well I think next step is find these other 2 sites.

If I don't hear back news about the Eafots beacon then ill fly back. Doesnt take too long these days.

At least I'm not on the outer arm any more, took me ages to get back to Eafots from there.

I remember hearing about there two more sites found, but I think it turned out to be that someone had got crossed wires at some point and it was actually the two new crash sites that it was about, not two new ruins. (I think someone had dropped the word 'crash' and making it 'two new alien sites', which to me at the time definitely sounded like it was about something like the ruins rather than the crashed ships!)

Are we sure that there is a persistent artefact/obelisk code, or is it changing with time? I got tech data from a certain obelisk with only the Orb, yesterday. Today when I scan the same obelisk with the Orb, I got nothing (or, since I got it yesterday it shows up as invalid...?). How are we supposed to crack a code if it keeps changing? This is going to be tedious business...

I concur, I was right on top of it before I saw it - pretty close to assuming the coordinates I had given were mixed up or something.

I think that there must be some way to puzzle it out, or at least narrow down the search region somewhat.

One thing that is clear is that the Guardians love equilateral triangles, and with three sites, I can hazard a guess that they will form an equilateral triangle in some way. Of course with just one point we are still stuffed.

OK, I'm posting this from my phone (at work) so apologies but I don't have any fancy screen shots or anything, just some observations from my time last night.

I went to solo, grabbed two of each item. While I was driving around I got close to some active obelisks but I didn't scan any. I was receiving the sorry try again message just for driving near the obelisks.
I then headed to Mobius. I figured I'd make a little spreadsheet to keep track of what I was doing. Before I left my ship i was credited with 6 decoded data entries. If I had to guess I would say that as I had the items in my cargo hold (albeit on my ship) I was getting credit for scans other CMDRS were completing.
I started my scans (casket, casket+casket, casket+orb) and got 4 hits that I assume were from my scans based on the timing. I had a few crashes and decided to park up and start typing up the data entries and then more decoded entries started popping up. At this point I have no idea if these are delayed from my scans or if simply hanging out with a hold full of items will let someone mooch of all the other CMDRS in the area.

I'm currently sat on 26 million and I think I only got 4 successful scans. I don't want a freebie, I want to figure this damn thing out. The problem is right now I'm not convinced any of this is working as intended.

Wow, so the simple answer is gather the items ( or maybe not ) then hover over ruins in Open mode and wait for the data to come rolling in ( as long as some poor sod is driving around scanning stuff )!

I noticed when I first went to the ruins again last night, I got two messages from Ram Tam telling me I had the wrong combination within 20-30 seconds of leaving my ship and long before picked up anything and remembered how to target then scan stuff! ( I was in Mobious PvE )

Ahh no probs, I'm definitely thinking 2 more ruins or a timed event that brings up new Obelisks at this ruin.

Perhaps these obelisks are altering our perception of time, so that cause comes after or at the same time as effect?

I found out something specific about the ancient items and how they relate to the obelisks this evening.
First of all I went through all 27 permutations of items you can carry in the SRV and scanned all 15 active obelisks, recording the response on a grid.
Then I double checked it (yeah, I really did the circuit 54 times in 2 evenings!).

I'm broadly finding my results are similar to others, however because of the way I've got my permutations listed I noticed a pattern in the data.
I was recording where I scanned a Guardian data packet, whether I got a message of failure from Ram Tah, or no message at all. (Any mistakes in the sheet aren't intentional)
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/157Dsf2Db_XD3_vvpkaO0Z0m1wMzU-Dx79yfxohHlbXM/edit?usp=sharing

And that was when it jumped out at me that 4 of the 6 items "unlock" a group of obelisks so that they don't report a failed scan attempt.

A big jump out is that Relic with Totem doesn't work on ANY of the 15 obelisks that we know are active.

This is very interesting.

And it makes the "Totem" quite relevant. I would suggest that the "Totem" has something to do with the "Towers" (As they are both "Towers")

Here is an excerpt from this page: read:http://wonderopolis.org/wonder/what-is-a-totem-pole

"Totem poles are sculptures carved from large trees, such as the Western Red Cedar. In North America, totem poles are part of the cultures of many indigenous peoples of Alaska, British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. Totem poles serve many purposes beyond their beauty, and their meanings are as varied as the cultures that make them.
Some totem poles represent stories or important events. On these poles, each figure on the totem represents part of a story. These totems are used as a way to record the history and legends of the tribes.
Figures on a totem pole are not gods to be worshipped. Instead, they represent traits and characteristics each clan or story embodies.
There are many other types of totem poles. Genealogy poles are erected in front of a family's home to represent the owner's clan or social status. Memorial poles are carved in honor of a deceased clan member. Mortuary poles are also raised in honor of the dead and include a small compartment for the ashes of the deceased.
Another interesting type of totem pole is the shame pole. Shame poles are carved to embarrass and ridicule someone who has done something wrong."

What interests me here is the idea of "Various stories"

Perhaps we can somehow use the "Totem" in conjunction with the "Towers" to activate other "Stories" (Obelisks)? Rather like moving on to the next data set...

What do you guys think?

Gyp.

Edit:

To add to this from the front page:

It seems:
Orb - Technological Data (Epsilon)
Casket - Historical Data (Gamma)
Tablet - Language Data (Delta)
Urn - Biological Data (Alpha)

Totem - Cultural Data (Beta)
Cultural Data contains every aspect of a Culture - Technological, Historical, Language and Biological data.

EDIT 2: Possible Clue:

"This data contains details regarding the rise of new technologies. It appears that the development of these technologies varied between clans, creating inequality and, ultimately, conflict. Initially, that conflict was resolved through personal combat between individual champions, but as clans started using numbers to overwhelm their opponents, the practice of warfare began to spread. This led to a surge in weapons development, with biological warfare quickly established as the weapon of choice. An arms race began, focused on the development of biological agents and various counter measures. It saddens me to discover this as I had hoped the Guardians would prove to be more advanced. A little naive I know as conflict is a common element of many species throught the galaxy. Wheather for resources, land or power over others. We all seem to share this shame."

Or another way of looking at it:

"This data contains details regarding the rise of new technologies. It appears that the development of these technologies varied between clans, creating inequality and, ultimately, conflict. Initially, that conflict was resolved through personal combat between individual champions, but as clans started using numbers to overwhelm their opponents, the practice of warfare began to spread. Biological+Shame = Urn+Totem

If this is a communications station, you need something to bounce off the signal when you want to communicate with some place which lies behind the planet, so maybe there is a relay station in the small moon?

Oh, well, wrt to this particular puzzle there's almost certainly other ancient sites. Reason I'm saying this is because the patch notes have a line about fixing a problem (mission related) at the ancient sites. 'Ruins' could obviously just refer to one site, but 'sites' strongly implies there are multiple!
