Odd ELW Loccation

Just found an ELW orbiting a brown dwarf, which in turn was orbiting a black hole. The L class brown dwarf, abs magnitude 14.22 was the brightest object in the entire system...screen shots coming soon...

EDIT: I misspoke above...it is an L class star...so the ELW is the moon of an L class star that is orbiting a black hole.

Wow... Is this the first ELW orbiting a brown dwarf, in a brown dwarf only system?

You *may* have a first on your hands, CMDR. Run home now and own that puppy, before it's sniped...

Z...

The primary is a black hole so there is that, but yeah...look how dark that whole system is. That second pic above is with me between the star and the ELW...

It will be turned in within the hour. I was actually on my way back to Sacagewea when I ran across that one...

Oh man. Yeah Straha you should never post something so grand as that showing the system info. get it sold asap.
That is a SUPER Rare find. Let me get this straight:
An ELW as a Moon of a Brown Dwarf orbiting a Black Hole?
HOLY CRAP [where is it][woah]
If it was ringed I'd fall out of my chair :p

Please chime in Marx...
That has to be a 1st.

And I thought I was good with my 2 ELW's orbiting a L star...

I'm glad you tagged it.
What a find.
Just when you think you've seen it all something like this comes up.
+1 to ya.
I just added one to my bucket list.

I hope Jackie sees this.

Tis turned in safe and sound. Just looking back at the shots...I miss reported it...it is orbiting an L that is orbiting a Black Hole...damn...gonna go change that...

There is another ELW orbiting a Brown Dwarf that is orbiting a black hole, but as far as I know that is the only other one.

Not a first, but still very very rare, nice find :)

Well it's still good!
Ok so it's :
An ELW as a moon of a Brown Dwarf orbiting An L star which orbits a Black hole?
It counts.
Awesome find.
Submit that system to marx's thread.
Get on the board. Especially with that gem.
(I got ~ 100 to submit if I live !!)

Nice find! It's also a mass code F system, I'm pretty sure there aren't too many of those in Marx's list either. (And grats on hitting Elite)

Did somebody say "ELW" and "rare"?
Funny you should ask about how rare it is, because later today I'll add a "rarity score" to the ELW list. Once that's done and your find is on the list, you'll be able to find out how rare it is compared to the planets on the list. I can already tell you this is extremely rare though, because of the following factors:
- ELW moons orbiting a dwarf star are extremely rare (8 out of 7208 so far, and most of those eight are around class M dwarfs)
- ELW-s in systems where the sole primary star is a black hole are extremely rare (6 out of 7208)
- ELW-s in mass code F systems are extremely rare as well (6 out of 7208), although this is mostly tied to star types

Oh, and it's also tidally locked, which is moderately uncommon too. Don't have precise numbers on it yet.
So, congratulations! You have an extremely rare find there. Right on, Commander! And congrats on reaching Elite to boot.

Oh, and you needn't bother with submitting the ELW to the list, I've got the screenies and all the info I needed from EDSM. Thanks for submitting it there too!

As a curiosity, it is possible for an ELW to exist around a solitary L dwarf system (so nothing but an L dwarf there), but only one such system has been found so far. That's Droju IG-M a103-0, first discovered by CMDR Veersarge.

Nice find indeed!

This only highlights (almost literally) the issue that we don't have multiple light sources. AFAIK FDev said that, this feature would be quite taxing on the system but hell, if they enable it, than I'll upgrade the rig.

I've seen ELW's around brown dwarves before, once it was the only planet in the system, with the primary being an M-class star, and the secondary the brown dwarf itself. I've also seen a ringed ELW as a moon of a ringed brown dwarf, and weirdo systems like ELW's, even binary pairs of them, inside neutron star and black hole systems. So, ELW's in a black hole primary aren't new, and while this really is a great find, I very much doubt it's a first. Definitely a rarity, though, so grats!

Here's an example of a weirdo system I found during Distant Worlds - this location became a tourist destination as I've seen this system pop up as a passenger mission target - so, OP, you may want to submit your find for the same consideration!

Well, I'm running an i7 6700k with a gtx 1080 and 64 gb ram, so I'm all good with the multiple light sources...and on a 34" ultra wide curved...oh so pretty :)

And thanks everyone. I have hit about 6,000 systems on my way to Elite, and have seen quite a few different and bizarre system configurations, but this one did stand out as an oddity. The kicker is, the primary black hole had already been tagged...so this does show why it can be a good idea to still look closely through all the bodies in the system before just moving on. You never know others might have missed, and what you'll find!

I posted mine a while back, but for posterity here it is again:

I was quite proud of that one. Still am for that matter. May have to swing back that way after I've returned to Colonia (next few days hopefully).

Looking at the rarity scores Marx is working on, there's a good chance this one will top the list - it will definitely be near the top. I liked it the first time I saw it, but I've just noticed... Nitrogen Magma?? Didn't even know that was possible for an ELW! I'm going to have to go back and check now, but I don't recall seeing anything like this when working on the OCR for the Detailed list...

I'm definitely going to have to swing back through that area :)
