Field of view or zoom trouble in oculus

Hi there,

I've been playing in oculus rift for several days with a nice wide fov. Suddenly I'm all zoomed in and I can't seem to fix it. I mean it all works fine but I need to move the pov back. Thoughts?

Yup, at first I was really thrilled by the framerate with the oculus. But it felt flat and too narrow. I thought maybe I was getting tired and couldn't see the 3D.
But after checking you guys videos and putting it in photoshop, you can see clearly both eyes are rendered with the exact same camera.

Cheap framerate optimisation ;)
(kidding hopefully just a soon to be fixed bug. That's what beta is for.)

Beta's do what beta's do. The head position is way better now, you also have more feeling of sitting in the cockpit of a ship. As for the stereoscopic side of things, clearly it is going to be fixed with further patching. So, making "a big song and dance" about it is rather pointless.

Good work FD, looking forward to where this is going oculus wise. :)

Indeed,

I would be happy to still use it if the text was readable but it is impossible now due to the res limit. Looks like i will be using my monitor until fixed or maybe I'll just wait until they fix it as I am in no rush really. Long way to go and all that!

Looks like on DK1 there is no eye separation, this wasn't intentional and the game is still rendering both eyes separately (it's just getting the same answer as the eyes are in the same place). The bug is only DK1 it seems.

So indirectly FD have now confirmed they have one (or several) DK2 in the house for development. ;)

Nice deduction there Sherlock ;)

Question is are they going to bother fixing it if DK1 is going to be obsolete going forward?

Also how about the fact that the res is fixed to that of the rift now.

Bit disappointed we haven't heard anything back on this today... oculus support was the best in the business until yesterday and we need it back badly! I'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms!
Here's hoping for a quick fix! :p

Kinda sad that people are complaining that this shouldn't have 'gone to the masses' we are all, whoever is playing this build, PLAY TESTERS.

The reason we are here is to TEST the builds, they simply don't have the hardware scope/variation to test everything in house... so when it comes along that an issue exists (exactly like this one) that's precisely what the point of Alpha/Beta testing is.. (I'm going to treat the word 'Gamma' phase with the contempt it deserves, because it's NOT a thing :p).

If this issue had gone through all phases of testing and to final release, fair play, now you can have something to complain about. But seriously, not at this stage lads.

You might have missed my post at 12pm'ish:

Thanks Greg... Is that an easy fix?

Not that it makes much difference to me at the moment because every time I land the game crashes for some reason... But the rift support up to now has always been first class and id hate to see our rep fall because of this build. :)

Is this problem connected to the inability to change resolution when the DK1 is connected to the PC?

And thanks for getting back to us on this... :)

You know all of this is not really meant as a "complaint" per se. The people here are simply trying to point out some errors in the new build. Which is precisely, what we are supposed to do. It is just that because people are so passionate about their Rifts that it comes across as complaining. This is the same thing we get to hear every time a new build is released and we point out bugs/errors etc. Someone always feels they need to remind us that this is "just alpha/beta". This isn't helpful, because all it does is just discourage people from reporting issues with the game, when this is what we are supposed to be doing in the first place. Now, as for comments such as "this build should not have gone out to the masses"...well, to be fair the game consists of more things than just VR support. And from the sounds of it DK1 wasn't tested because the devs are on DK2. Which is understandable since DK2 is so much more fun. Of course, most of us still have DK1 because they will only start shipping DK2 en masse starting this July. Still I would hope that DK1 will still get some love, because I would be quite sad, if I had to wait until August to get back into Elite in VR :)

All this being said, I am very happy how fast the devs react to these forums. It is very nice indeed and I am quite grateful for it.

That's a different bug - just to keep things exciting. There has understandably been an influx of tickets coming in since the release, so the exact time scales we'll get to it are hard to give. I won't bother giving a "soonish" or equivalent, but rest assured we do care about the Oculus support and as our e3 demos showed - we're trying to continually improve it!

Thanks for your answer. What about the FOV? We all have the feeling that everything feels huge and zoomed inside the cockpit, comparing to alpha and beta 1.
