Yes to the Colony, and i like the idea mentioned it to be a prison colony. Other ideas also appeal to me. Like others said, a ship or a station big enough could make the jump needed. Maybe good time for a functional generation ship to be found? Maybe a neutron star is somewhere in that cluster waiting to be found somehow?

Best idea i can come up with:

Along with the Colony, it would be nice to see a timed script, lets say weekly (every Thursday ofc), for an fsd powered station like Jaques to transfer ships back and forth (or only back) to the Colony like a ferry. I dont think it would take much of the devs time to make it happen, and it would help others to visit the Colony.

P.S. Maybe a new engineer could be situated there in the future?

+1

The engineer idea is interesting!

Maybe he requires something unique to the cluster itself, and special material found on a Cancri world, or something found in signal source, and in return he can give you a one shot 250 LY jump boost enhancement... allowing players to return.

I understand players reluctance to this idea, about a place of no return being no fun and causing ticket issues for FD etc, but this is a unique location in the galaxy and as such it really does throw up some great gameplay opportunities if we fleshed them out and discussed how it could become a practicable POI to visit and interact with.

I love your Idea, have a ferry station that would once a week jump from the last neutron (point decision) to the 1st star of the cluster AH cancri, giving everyone a way into the cluster and out of it and have a week to spend looking the sights there before coming back.

My companion and I are on the trip and as of last night we were on a moon staring at giant S class in the face. I vote no, why? This place is special, romantic and a one of a kind. To make it accessible by all would ruin the magical feeling you have. By being here I sort of face my own mortality, If I was stuck in a place of no return would I be okay with that? If it's with my companion then yes. I'd happily die amongst the stars here with him. But then being able to go home to shoot things would also be nice. Okay I'm torn. :D

why not get a space station built at the jumping off point, rather than at the other end. this could then lead to future endeavor to discover a way back etc

Being a one way only trip, this would surely be interesting. I support this initiative, even if it is a bit crazy.

I'm not sure it is usefull to have an outpost there, because :
- with no way back, the area don't provide a lot of content.
- if a solution is found to come back, the area will not be so original after all

Another problem with a cg will be to have enough jump range with enough cargo space...

But i think something should be done there. My first though is to have a tourism beacon for anaconda greaveyards. For that a new passenger type could be created wanting only a one way trip, and paying when reaching the beacon. The only problem i have with that is that the gameplay implies the rebuy screen, what really breaks immersion.

Another solution could be to have there a one way wormhole towards colonia ! Lol.

I also think that leaving the cluster by the rebuy screen is very immersion braking. Besides, without a way back, sooner or later that place will be forgotten and thats really sad.

I voted Yes.
i like content generated from player activities, a station or a planetary base there would serve immensly for RP purposes.
Also beeing not compulsory content the pilots that don't like the idea of self destructing can just avoid the area.

As usual there are months of still calm, then everything happens at once, and i had to make choices, so I decided to not go with distant stars to investigate the formidine rift misteries that are unraveling.
But these expedition is very remarkable and should leave a sign in the galaxy.

Since I have committed to not returning from Elysium until we know more about these aliens, I would love a station to call home. So of course I voted yes!

Also to any other alien dodgers out there, Cancri Cluster is an EXCELLENT hiding spot!

EDIT: Although now that I think about it, if I docked at a station in the cluster, I could never come back to the bubble. Once you die you respawn at your last docking point........hmmm that makes it harder.

Update : I've added a list of the ideas submitted on this thread to the bottom of the OP.

Please keep the ideas coming!

EDIT: Although now that I think about it, if I docked at a station in the cluster, I could never come back to the bubble. Once you die you respawn at your last docking point........hmmm that makes it harder.

This would require an option on the rebuy screen to return to the last bubble station you docked at. I'm sure it'd be pretty easy for FD to implement ;)

I'd like to see a community goal for Felicity Farseer, the forefront engineer in Hyperdrive technology.

Since the recent discovery that the ejecta plumes from Neutron stars give standard FSD's a huge boost, a community goal to gather exploration data explicitly of neutron stars for Felicity to work out how to tailor FSD drives to take better advantage of this boost. Assuming as it stands the boost in an unexpected gain that damages the drives by 1%, if the drives were further modified by an experienced engineer provided with a wealth of data about these stars and the plumes, I reckon Felicity should be able to produce a new Level5 FSD boost modification that allows Neutron stars to give twice the boost they currently do, but 4x the damage to the FSD as a result. For explorers, this would be an acceptable risk as they should all be carrying AFM's , but this change would greatly increase the usefulness of the Nutron Highways, and also be a concerted effort to scan as many Nutron stars as possible.

A suggestion to also submit all data to EDSM of course, would help with route plotting.

To solve the problem of being stuck at Elysium, maybe a new colony there could install navigation beacons for the old, disused style of hyperdrive. I.e the kind that takes days/weeks to travel. A couple of matched beacons to allow the larger jump between two fixed points.

This would require an option on the rebuy screen to return to the last bubble station you docked at. I'm sure it'd be pretty easy for FD to implement ;)
There is already The suicidewinder Option :)

Voted No.
Like it clean and untouched
without human littering. ;)

But would like to see a named system up here for history, though :)

I voted NO. It should remain as it is. Only accessible with great effort and sacrifice. And without return.

It would be cool to have a commemorative plaque somewhere on a landable in the cluster where every commander that makes the trip gets a mention.

Good arguments both for and against. I also feel the Cancri Cluster is special in that only a few of us have ever been there however, I voted yes because I believe there are some interesting and creative ways the cluster could be worked into the game. Example #1: A surface station could have a rare that would enable a one-time boost capable of allowing a ship to escape the cluster. Example #2: A worm-hole 'gate' or accelerator is constructed by a scientist trapped in the cluster that allows one way jumps back to the entry point (point decision NS). There are probably lots of other ideas we as a community could come up with to make it an interesting (and permanent) POI in the game. Just throwing ideas out there :)

I voted no, because I share some of the concerns others wrote:
- even though suicidewinder is a required game mechanic, still an exploit and the only way back out there
- and worse half of the player base would lament to no end how inaccessible it is and that there is no cheap way back

There were even threads about opening a wormhole to Colonia or somehow reduce the effort to get there... I think FDev will rathor avoid all the controversy this would cause

I like the idea..but the points are well made. To be of any value to the game there would have to be a return route. Yes we have explored it, but it will be "clean" when we leave. Not sure how it could be made to work in a regular game context.
