I like to roleplay, so losing crew for me is a big deal, let alone the weeks i been with this one, im over it, unless there is some way to save crewmembers, im just not going to use them anymore, its a shame, i really liked what they added to game, but i only have so much time on this planet, and im not going to spend it leveling crewmember after crewmember up in a game. sigh.
I have distanced myself from the pilots I hire. I use only temps now.
I started to fire pilots when I switch to a ship that has no SLF, or when I am most likely not going to use the SLF for a while.
I am no longer deliberately training my pilots.
The reason for me firing them is because they take percentages when I do not use them.
I am not sure if the bug is still present where they get money when you sell ships and modules, but I am not taking that risk either.
I am a bit sad about this, because I would like to be able to get attached to them, but I feel that it is not efficient to do so.
If... I say IF.... multicrew with NPC gets introduced I do hope FD will have a look at this, because otherwise having a full complement of crew might leech far to many credits. I can't afford to have 3 crew who each keep taking 12% of my profits.
I'd rather pay a fixed wage, or perhaps the percentages could be lowered considerably.
I feel a max of 5 or 6% would be acceptable. They will become millionaires soon enough that way.
Perhaps FD could introduce a moral system through which I could pay them a bonus once in a while to keep them happy.
I'd like a bit of crew management with elements like that.

I'm all for penalties but it does seem a bit harsh.
A cheap (in respect to dev time) solution I keep suggesting....
- On player death crew is lost for a period of time, say 24 hours, call it escape pod recovery time
- When crew returns they have lost 2 (or 1) ranks, their wages do not change
This is a penalty system where players clearly will not want to lose crew so a sense of risk is introduced.
But a player never forcibly loses a crew, in the end it's always the player's choice to "sack" the crew member due to not wanting to pay the cost.
I would like something like that.
I think that is a good proposal.
