Powerplay Question about killing ships for merits.

So here's a little thing i've been confused about for awhile now.

I know that you can get merits for underming your opponents ships by interdicting while in supercruise or doing a conflict zone in a system that's having a fight.

So the question here is : Why don't we receive any points for killing our opponents ships in random other systems while we do lose points whenever we kill ships from our allied power in any system?

It doesn't really make sense to me :x

Hi there

Sorry, I can't be much of help here. I always wondered about the first part in your question myself. Although it kind of makes sense you can only kill and get points for them in control systems. Also I thought they spawned only in control systems after 2.2.03. Please do correct me if I'm wrong, not a PP'er myself

and why do we do lose points whenever we kill ships from our allied power in any system?
This however is a bit obvious isnt it?

Because that doesn't affect the control system.

And go ask anyone who's been in the army what would happen if you made a habit out of shooting your friends ...

I understand but it doesn't really make sense that you do lose merits outside of control systems but you don't gain merits out of control systems.. see where im going?

No, because you're still killing your own guys. You're suggesting that since the Fort Hood shooter wasn't killing his colleagues in a strategically important place, his colleagues shouldn't really be that upset about it.

It would be like a ww2 sniper wandering off to duck hunt and while you're in yur buds back 40 take out his family and get paid for it while his team gets slaughtered on the front lines. Instead of being deducted pay they would deduct his head instead.

Dude you're going completely off track here..

I'm not upset about the fact that we lose points i'm upset about the fact we don't gain points..... Just like, concentrate on the rest of the text for a minute .. come on..

But if you think about the fictional universe for a bit, killing enemies elsewhere stops them getting to control systems, so is still useful.

It makes PP feel really gamey, rather than part of a simulated world.

@laplandz

He's asking why you can't gain merits from killing hostile powers ships from random systems. As in you run into bad guys, you fight them and win, but you don't get recognition for it.

Either way it's now completely irrelevant - hostile powers' ships should only show up in control systems.
