New explorer, would love some tips from experienced commanders

You've been out for over 2 months? Good heavens that's a long trip! I'm currently working on modding my Asp for heat efficiency where possible and then getting that grade 5 FSD. (chem m's and arsenic are a PAIN!) After that I plan on heading out and I'd love to be out that long! I want to have a first discovered ELW and a black hole.

Arsenic is easily found in Deciat where Ms Farseer lives.

Head out to the Core, then bounce up or down through the plane, then head off. Trust me...

Here's a tip which is likely to be nerfed at some point:

It's possible (but difficult) to get 2 overcharges from a neutron star. I've tried it, but wasn't successful. What you have to do is overcharge your FSD, start a hyperspace jump and enter the neutron star jet again, and overcharge while your jump is powering up.

Here's a link to a video; scroll down a bit and also watch the one by Dr. Kaii which explains the technique:

Your best friend is the 'X' key. Total stop.
Map it to a comfortable button if you are using a pad or a joystick, and push it always
when you enter witchspace so when you exit, don't dive into the destination's main object.
Is not funny emerging from hyperspace just to fall into a NS or a BH avoidance zones.

Safe travels out there.

Thank you! Great advice. I learned that lesson on my first outing. Found a blue/pink nebula about 1,400ly's out. About 3/4 of the way there I dropped out and was looking at my modules when I started over heating. It was a brown dwarf and it only took about 2 seconds before I was heating up. Lesson learned! I now use voice attack and Kate has a multi-part command that I use for jumping while exploring. I changed the voice command but what it does is she locks the next system in route, engages the jump drive and then during hypserspace she enable safe exit protocols, which means we are at a full stop the second I drop out. Pretty handy :)

Perhaps a Coriolis Bobblehead would be a nice addition for all of us, gives warmth of home during those extended missions. :)

A voice command macro... nice!

A comment about the Full Stop key, remember that you emerge from hyperspace in supercruise, so you are still moving. Slowly but still moving!
If you look at your speedometer, it shows that at 'full stop' it stills marks 30 Km/s. With the rest of the stars is not a problem, but careful with black holes!
When you jump to a BH, you appear VERY nearby, so at 'full stop' on super cruise it will take less than two minutes to reach it!
So when you arrive to a BH system, quickly scan it and turn your nose elsewhere or you could make a nosedive!
