Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

I'm going to investigate moon 1 c and 1d a bit the coming days. I was there yesterday. The info Ram Tah's CG gives talks about the ruins in the system, not specifically that moon, it does state you can get the data on that moon+coords.
Also the size of those binary moons seen from either surface looks a lot like the promo shot. And both have vulcanic activity like in that shot, at least according to the system map info. I have yet to find any sings of vulcanic activity, they seem to be elusive. Did some one know how to find geysers etc? I only found some via missions up till now, never by myself. I want to check whether they look similar to the promo shot.
4b and 4c also have vulcanic activity, might also be a possibility.
Since I still suspect their electromagnet ship shooting used gravity slingshot tricks they might need binary moons or close moons to get them up to speed.

I think the community goal means that this puzzle require the other sites to be found to be solved. It be nice to find them before the end of the community goal and frontier give us the answer.

It clear frontier want this solve on schedule, wonder why :D

Cos the Thargoids are getting restless in their cages & need to be let out! :D

So I just got the Elite Newsletter, and saw the section on "RAM TAH APPEALS FOR ANCIENT DATA" that reads (emphasis mine):

Ram Tah in association with United Meene Labour has issued an appeal for the following obelisk data types Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon from the site to aid him in locating other sites as part of an ongoing research project. The organisation has promised to reward pilots who deliver this data to Felice Dock in the Meene system.

So if this is accurate, we do NOT need to find other sites YET. With the note from Michael that open is showing more than it should, it looks like we are just having problems figuring out how to get more obelisks to activate and be scannable. A specific order, perhaps?

So this new CG has appeared in the latest newsletter (not read yet) without appearing in the Galnet posts?
Sigh, FD! (Sighs again and shakes head)

GUYS!

If this hasn't been thought of before, I could use some help - I heard when you want to go to the "opposite" side of the planet, you just add 180 to the co-ords - I'm not sure though, but please can someone help me with working out the co-ords for the picture I did below?

I've just tried to use notepad and a calculator to do it, but I don't think I'm doing it right:

-31.7877 -128.9711 (ruins we know of)

148.2123(+) 51.0289(+) (2nd ruins)

148.2123(+) -51.0289(-) (3rd ruins)

EDIT: Longitude won't go past 91.1xxx'ish... :/

My geometry is extremely rusty but you have a sphere with a triangle drawn inside it. There is nothing to tie that triangle in any single orientation. Hence the triangle can rotate about the vertex you have at the ruins location. Therefore the other two vertices will describe circles on the surface of the sphere. I assume since the triangle is equilateral that the two circles will coincide, but it doesn't help you much.

Indeed. You need 3 points which are not colinear to define a plane. The site and planet centre is only 2.

I know I'm about 30 pages behind at the moment, but what is going on?

Nothing other than the fact that again someone has published the wrong thing in Galnet. All the objects are different, so it's either one that was meant to be used in the future, or one that was never used.

If I understand the series of events correctly, the planet was located due to footage shown from the trailer? I can't find any information as to what logical series of events in game would have lead to the discovery of the ruins. Other than the CG currently running I feel like the missing piece is how via the game itself we would have been able to locate the ruins on the planet.

Sorry you guys I dont know how to edit my post. But I found this on google http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/...ers-inch-closer-to-solving-games-big-mystery/

Has anyone been to Merope 5C recently? I've only got interested in this alien mystery when I heard 100 mil could be made. So I dont know if Merope has been checked.

Checked many times by many pilots (see front page summaries of previous two threadnaughts, but I think Riz has carried those summaries onto FP of this latest incarnation) when we were trying to find why UAs and UPs seem so fixated on Merope and Merope 5C. However we never did fully solve that fixation. My own pet theory is that Merope contains one of the Guardian arc ships (possibly now covered in galactic dust and meteor craters and known as 5C). As for UP sonogram that was largely solved in those earlier threadnaughts.

They said they were going to adapt and reuse the plans they originally had, could be linked to this.

Okay...

I think I might have something this time.

I posted this yesterday;

However, after we had no luck in searching, I decided to do a bit of research on something called "Spherical Trigonometry" (source).

While not understanding it myself, I decided to try and work out how many triangles it would take to make a sphere out of triangles.

So I came up with this:

And I think it has something to do with this:

I cannot find the link to the person who recorded all of the triangle lights on these pillars - but they are all the same on all the pillars and sequence the same - which may means these are linked to ruins on the planet!

Has anyone got that link!? Know what I'm on about?? Can't find it on the main OP (probably taken down because no one could work it out). Would appreciate it if someone could post it here!

If I accidently hand in the ancient ruins mission (went to Ram Tah's station to do the CG and accidently clicked on the mission instead of the CG), is there any way to get it back and do it again? I only had 1 complete (1mil).

Apparently if you leave the station and then re-dock it works. I have not tried this personally but read it on this thread somewhere.

I am a bit puzzled about this. Fairly new to the game itself so I really don't have another event to compare with.
I've managed to get the 13 decoded entries in solo, and as Michael Brookes said solo is working as intended and that open/PG is showing more active obelisk than it should.
Is this a confirmation you're only supposed to get 13 correct scans at this location? And that the bonus scan's you get in open/PG should really be someplace else?

Why I am asking is because I really can't do test's in solo to activate more obelisks as I always get disconnected having everything reset.
Seems to be disconnecting when I scan the active obelisks, roughly 6 scans and imminent disconnect.

Sorry if already asked and answered somewhere.

Apparently yes 13 is all we should get - maybe 15 and we've missed a trick because of the continual disconnects and client crashes. Mission impossible :p

We don't know for sure, it could just be that we haven't discovered what to do to make more than 13 appear, but it certainly seems that way.

If you're getting consistent disconnects then make sure you have verbose logging in your config file, file a bug report and include your netlogs [up]
