So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

Just out of curiosity is anyone at any of the bases?? If so select the satalite, is it directly above?? Just a thought to make it easier if that was the case. If not ignore me
If it's already been suggested also ignore me

Two minor points i don't think have been brought up:

1. Going by the timeline on drew wagar's site, the ships used to carry beacons would have been using 2b hyperdrives, the kind i believe capital ships still use, frame shift drives wouldn't be available for another 20 years

2. These sites are only 30 years old, whoever commissioned the beacons is probably still listening

I actually checked that with the Rift beta site yesterday. The beacon wasn't directly overhead, but visible at an angle...if I had to guess about 45 degrees offset from overhead.

I tried flying directly away from satellite to the surface but it was dark and I didn't know where I was going. :)

I tried this as well. I landed last night, took a SS ( as I was pretty much right under the comms beacon) and then compared this morning and yea the comms beacon is on the opposite side of the planet, so that can be ruled out

Position of the satellite *might* help with a tidally locked planet. Otherwise I'd consider it a non starter.

Example of why this doesn't work: The Beta site in the Rift is on a tidally locked planet BUT it is tidally locked to a different star from the one where the beacon orbits. There is no way for the beacon and the settlement to remain in a constant position with each other.

Is there actually a reason why the sites are placed where they are on the surfaces, or are they just placed in random locations?

That's a good question. They don't appear hand placed to me. I could be wrong, of course, but they look more like procedurally placed bases. It would be nice if we could use the placement(s) as clues, but I have a feeling we can't.

I was wondering if there is any pattern or relationship in the co-ordinates (Im in the Rift), but with just two sets of two, there's not much to go on. EAFOTS RA-G B11-0 3 is so deadly dull Im hoping there was a clue somewhere. Just crater after crater after crater and no real features to speak of. Depressing to think I could have flown by it by a few kms and not seen it!

Which begs the follow on question "from who or from what"

Maybe a elect group know of tech/Thargoids and/or other alien races but are protecting that knowledge? Hence 'Guardians'. They're playing fast and lose with the knowledge and other information so the question arises....."Who Guards the Guardians" ?

hi there,
i am a bit confused why these stations now are found in the formidine rift and if they are connected tho the mystery. it was said horizons is not needed to solve the mystery, so one would not look on planets. But the transmittions show some connections to what could be connectetd to the rifts mystery. "Stars thin out, you can see the whole galaxy just hanging there." the old woman said this to Salome and this was part of the transmittion from alpha base. but maybe ist just nothing...
I am here in the area of the formidine rift for about 3 month now and found nothing.
maybe i am playing the game wrong... wondering what kind of game this actually is.
my ship is douwn to 50 %, so i need to get home. does anyone know what the closest station is?
I had the idea, that one has to look for something in witch space... when traveling the rift.
and since the pictures, generates from the unknown probes transmittions/scanns look a lot like the ships compas to me, i have been trying to keep an eye on the comas´ behaviour in witch space. usualy that dot jumps around like crasy. well, i did not notice anything differnt yet. maybe one would keep an eye on that.

The mystery itself can be solved without horizons, but these bases on planet surfaces are clues to help solve the mystery.

Comas behaviour?? [edit] Oh do you mean the ship's compass?
.
The closest station to the rift is probably Sothis, but that's still ~8000 LYs away!
.
Re witch space, personally speaking, I think it's just random, bar showing the destination star now.

Anyone else on EAFOTS RA-G B11-0 3

My eyeballs are turning to stone and the coffee machine in my Asp is broken :(

Afraid not, I've spent the last week or so on GL-Y E2 6 aside from going to visit the Alpha base for the scan data.

Though my Asp's coffee machine is also broken, so I feel for you.
