9/10 For score fpr Bugs
1/10 For score for QA Team

I suspect that not so much QA can be performed because they want to prevent leaks to the community.
Hence, only a few people chosen is allowed to do the testing, and with fewer resources less testing is done.

Probably not the QA teams fault, more of a administrative call I suppose.
Not looking for someone to blame, but rather how FD could test this better.

They would need to run in at public server, under 'normal player loads'. Still in a protected environment with enough people in the sessions to see whether it breaks.

FD probably needs some people on the outside and ask them to sign a NDA for that kind of testing.

I still think it has a similar function to. The axis of the planet is tilted into the orbital plane and a year/day are exactly the same.

This means that all stars and the Y-dwarf are in the same possition, every 6.9 days.

It's a perfect system for stellar alignment.

I was curious about this overall. Someone built a model of the system in an astronomy tool didn't they? Anyone have a link to the post?

Just how bugged do we think this whole ruins thing is then?

I've just got out there for the first time. Planned ahead, I have the spreadsheet of results open in chrome, screenshots of the obelisk map and the assorted items map in other tabs and a pad and pencil next to me, because obviously this doesn't break immersion and is a wonderful way to play a game, constantly alt-tabbing between a spreadsheet and three tabs in a web browser.

So I pick up a casket and relic, scan obelisk 5 and receive history 14, as per the spreadsheet. Great stuff I think, at least I've worked out what I need to do correctly.

Drive to obelisk 11 with the same two items on board, scan it. That combo supposedly gives history 8 according to the spreadsheet but gives me rock all. Get the basic alpha/beta/gamma/whichever data in my data store but no message re ruins history and nothing in my comms tab.

Drop the relic, pick up an urn and head to obelisk 9, casket and urn at obelisk 9 will give biology 9 according to the spreadsheet. Scan it, get two messages in my comms. One tells me I have biology 9, the other is Ram Tah telling me that my princess is in another castle. Now I've already read so much about this on the forums that I know the fail message isn't showing when you actually fail and only shows on your next scan, however the previous scan shouldn't have been a fail to begin with. I've only done three scans and all of them are supposedly valid combinations.

Throw in the fact that it's dark at the ruins site which makes driving around it a pain in the backside and I've decided I have better things to do than spend my Sunday playing this seemingly broken crap.

Such a shame because I'd been saving a trip to the ruins for when I was in the mood for it. Needless to say that moment has now passed.

The fact we still haven't even had any kind of communication from anybody who can be bothered telling us what the hell is going on with this alleged content is the crappy icing on what was already a fairly unpleasant failcake.

Sorry FDev, I will praise you when you do things right and you do get things right for sure. This though, is just diabolical and not in the good Las Vegas way. The wordfilter on the forum and my own desire to keep things clean prohibits me from saying with full honesty what I actually feel about this; suffice to say that if I did write it, people's eyes would be bleeding by the time they finished reading it.

Edit: Decide to do one last obelisk scan on the way back to my ship and get kicked out of the game with an adjudication server error.

Clowns. Utter clowns.

Hi fellow commanders. I see that frustration begins to come by here. But remember all the awesome things that YOU ( the community) have done since the beginning of the game. Solving enigmas, decyphering so many codes, finding a lot of new things. I think FD this time has built a wall that we are not able to climb for the moment. But we must keep the faith .
That's the first time we can't solve quickly a problem and so they help us with this CG. I think we still can find by our own and I'm confident in this awesome community we are part of.
Don't just let frustration invade us. Together we can find everything we just have to hang on.
Cheers

I share your enthusiasm. I really do. But here we were presented with 2 options: figure it out for yourself or grind. People always complain about grinding but now overwhelmingly the grind has been chosen to complete a massive CG probably by the end of today.

The people have spoken.

Can you share the stuff? (that you obviously smoked)?

Could someone post a picture of the skyline at the ruins right now, including Pleiades nebula please? (Or some other easily recognisable nebula)

Actually we were presented with one option - drive yourself mad playing broken janky crap. The worst of it is that as long as people keep plugging away trying to find workrounds for broken janky crap under the auspices of 'doing science', the importance to most of us of broken janky crap not being included in the game to begin with will remain understated in the eyes of the people producing it.

Yes, I'm very annoyed right now. I would actually rather take that annoyance out on the people who deserve to receive it but since they haven't shown their faces in here or deigned to comment since releasing this particular broken janky crap, I'm afraid it's getting sprayed around a bit instead. On that note, I'll leave you to it. Just remember please that trying to make broken, bugged crap work is not science.

^ What Manuone said. Its easy to get carried away with all the possibilities and permutations and be overwhelmed and burned out. I only came back during this past week after a long absence (I missed all that good stuff with barnacles, UP's, UA's, crashed ships, deciphering images from audio and all that! Looks like it was fun!).

But I've thrown myself into this ruins enigma (36th hour since I last slept coming up! Don't worry, Im eating and moving around and such - DVT is a thing, after all).

I can't help but think its all linked. These puzzling ruins. the "Thargoids" at the same time. I think they're all interlinked. Ithink the race we are learning about is not the Guardians. I think they are the Thargoids - before they transited to Witch-Space. I think the decidedly non-organic ruins are perhaps the remains the inter-stellar-info net the Thargoids built. I think all those other locations, wrecks, UA's, UP's, signals, life forms, link to this.

Question I'm asking myself is "Does it point to the last colony, or to the home world?".

? Well, There's Merope, there's Soontill, theres Synuefe xr-h d11-102, Planet 1 B.

The Obelisks tell us of a home world and 3 ark ships. So, are the three locations above the colonies, or is one of them the home world (if so, I'm going with Merope).

Or, you know, it could all be a stream of nonsense thoughs brought on by too much coffee and not enough sleep. But I'm having fun puzzling it over, just the same.

The glyphs on the obelisk seem to be:
[neutron/white dwarf] [planet]
[planet] [moon]
[ringed star] [?]

The obvious answer is that this is a system diagram, but it doesn't seem to be precise enough to actually single out a system . It's also unclear whether the guardians were showing "what is in the sky above their planet" or "what is in the system". So there may be another planet in the system (which the moon orbits).

The final/first glyph is a total mystery - it could be an image of the 5 bodies, and an indication that the "middle planet" is the point of interest. Or it could be some kind of asteroid belt (or some hint as to where the system can be found?)

These ones? https://ixalon.github.io/elitedangerous/

Works for me.

And the seemingly arbitrary locations of the beacons bearing the relics has been bugging me. Maybe they form the outline of where the last location is, when overlayed with the galactic map somehow?

If Merope is the homeworld, and Synuefe xr-h d11-102 a colony that knew its relative position to the homeworld but not the other Ark Ship colonies when the earthworks where laid out, perhaps the metal structures key in to those two locations. If one is Soontill and we can get the beacon/relic overlay to marry up, then we could extrapolate the 4th!

I needed to get that out, half baked as it is, before the CG is done. Maybe there's something in there other than sleep deproved ravings. More likelly I'll be proven wrong pretty soon.

But I'm having a lot of fun grappling with it!

I agree with it being a poor game design to make puzzles overly complex requiring special set of skills and knowledge that most gamers dont' have. Also, there were a lot of sound theories and strong mathematical, astronomical, and other scientific approaches to solve this "puzzle", and so far they did not provide any result at all, which makes me think that there indeed might be no puzzle, and CG with next lead has been planned all long, and not made as crutch for next lead because we ended up being too stupid to decode that puzzle.

Come to think about it, maybe the reason why ruins were remade is because FD actually wanted to REMOVE the lead from ruins layout, not add it, so we don't discover next site too early like it happened with a current one, messing up with a story FD that FD slowly feeds us over the years?

Got to disagree here. It's not poor game design, it's good game design. If the game was a puzzle game aimed at everyone then I would probably agree with you. However it's not. It's a simulation. You can't expect that every puzzle in the year 3303 is going to be solvable by everyone. Some things have to be very hard to solve and verge on unsolvable, just like in real life. The fact that there may not actually be a puzzle to solve at the ruins but people still infer lots of hidden meaning is also just like what happens in real life, which makes it a pretty damn good simulation. This stuff all adds a huge amount of depth to the game which just wouldn't be there if everything could be solved by everyone.

But it's only a game! yes it may have it's problems, but in the end it's a game, something to do to get enjoyment out of playing it.

If you're not enjoying this bit of the game then go & do something else.

Agreed! I've been amazed by the creativity of this community, and the different approaches to solving problems. Just in keeping up with this thread, I've learned a ton about astronomy, mysticism, different puzzle types, ancient languages, and historical examples of universal communication (like the Arecibo message, Voyager golden record, Pioneer plaque).

I know many commanders here are getting burned out by bugs, griefers, and ambiguity, and they don't always feel like FDev is matching their level of passion. But I think this last part is an illusion. This game is first and foremost a vehicle sim, closely tied to the original Elite games, and most of the developer time is spent on refining and expanding the core mechanics. They try to slowly tell an interesting story with the remaining time they have available, but each step requires adding new interactive assets (barnacles, obelisks, Thargoid ships), so the pace is tied mostly to how quickly these can be introduced. So they rely on puzzles, ambiguity and the meta-game to keep us interested. I'm sure they would do more, faster, and with better quality control if they could, but they are human.

Like many here, I've spent weeks at the ruins coming up with pet theories and hunches, but testing each of these requires many man-hours to check other locations (can't agree more that another surface sensor mechanic would be a huge improvement). So I am personally looking forward to Ram Tah's results from the new CG. Just one additional ruins site would tell us a LOT about what information may or may not be encoded.

I'm taking a short break while we wait; it's finally time to acquire that Sol permit so I can be there to welcome our new Thargoid overlords :) Fly safe, all. o7

More stream of conciousness raving - must be quick, FSD charging!

The near religious divide mentioned in the obelisk lore between the tech adopters and the tech shunners?

What if the old style "Angry Thargoids" in their angular ships are the tech adopters, and the new "Cautious/Curious Thargoids" are the tech shunners, remaining true o their ancient em-based bio-tech roots, who are peeking in at all this activity around their history is some angry tech-adopting trouble looking for them?

I'm not saying its all Thargoids. But its all Thargoids!

On the other sites, did anyone follow this line of thinking?

Given the Guardians fascination with geometric shapes (see Culture 12) and the predominance of tetrahedrons/triangles at the site, could the other ruins be here :

http://www.math.ubc.ca/~cass/courses/m308-03b/projects-03b/wagner/Webpage_files/image004.jpg

It would work, but to have a triangle you need 5 points if you were to do it inside a sphere - there is 1 site with know of, and probably only 2 more (because of data that has been unearthed has all been in the mid-range - not start or end)

I came up with these (drawing triangles over and around a sphere - not from within), but drew some blanks in some searches over the planet:
