It happened to me; don't fly without a rebuy

I had my dream ship, a Corvette, and I lost it. I called her the WarPig. I had just outfitted her with an A-rated power plant, the last piece I had left to A-rate. She had a grade 5 thermal resistant bi-weave, 4x grade 3 boosters (2 resistant, 2 heavy), a grade 5 FSD. She was a real beast. It was rocking dual PA's on the huge points since the last update. I also had a fighter pilot Nina Chaney who was Deadly (worked her up from Harmless).

I had to travel 2 systems away from my home system to purchase my 8A PP. Purchase complete, I was heading back home to park the Pig when I got interdicted by an Elite Anaconda. He knew that I had 4 engineer commodities in the hold. I knew I didn't have the rebuy but I didn't consider him much of a threat so I submitted and decided to fight <----mistake.

Here's the problem, my joystick came unplugged from the back of the computer shortly after we started fighting. It took me several precious seconds to figure out what happened. I had to get up and run around the desk to plug it back in then run back. He used that time to get my shields down. I tried to low wake but got a FSD malfunction. I exploded with about 20% hull left; he must have got my power plant I guess.

The rebuy screen was sobering. I must have spent at least 20 minutes looking at it, unchecking all the optional boxes, doing the math again. They wanted about $24M to give me my ship back. I had $8M in the bank. They offered me another $7.5M as a loan (I'm rated Deadly). It wasn't enough; not even for just the hull. Those A-rated core components are expensive.

I finally took my Freewinder in LHS 3447. It's been a long time since I was in that system. I had forgoten that I was ranked up with several of the factions there. I did a little outfitting on the winder (A rated FSD and fuel scoop), painted it black (it looked good), then hit the road going back home. It's a fun little ship. I decided to put the loaner Sidewinder in storage (to serve as a reminder), pulled my taxi Asp Explorer out of storage (I also have a Viper), and now I'm looking for a quick way to make $500M credits [big grin]

Sorry for your loss cmdr, we've all been there,& it's a tough lesson, losing your pride & joy, without enough cash to cover the rebuy.
Respect to you, for just getting on with it & not moaning.
Have some rep for taking it on the chin.

My sincerest condolences on your loss, commander. I was "lucky" enough to have this happen to a ship that fell within the rebuy loan limit (although being stuck in an Asp X for a week while I paid it off really sucked). Strange that your ship exploded with 20% hull left. I've seen NPCs blow up occasionally when their reactor gets sniped, but I assumed they were self-destructing. Unfortunately, the Corvette has its reactor located in the back, so it's a bit harder to hide when retreating.

Open a ticket and explain what happened

How does a USB connection just fall out?

I don't have the stick fastened to my desk. It's got rubber feet and they work pretty good for keeping it in place but sometimes I move it around during maneuvers (Thrustmaster T1600). Sometimes I also just slide it to the side when I need extra desk space. I must have pulled it in just the right way during that fight, IDK. The connector was actually still in the USB socket, just barely hanging on, but the connection was broken. Not much to tell I guess.

The conda was using a huge PA and I know it landed at least a couple of those shots on my hull. It was a little odd to die with that much hull left but not to the point that I would call it cheating or anything. I do wish that there was a "death report" or something that I could check where it would show you module statuses on death, maybe tell you what caused the fatal blow.

I sympathize with the T.16000 sliding issues. The stick stays put pretty well, but the TWCS throttle gives me trouble. The whole unit won't stay put without duct taping it to the table.

Maybe the combination of losing your powerplant and FSD triggered the explosion. When I disable an NPC by hitting their reactor, usually they just sit there dead in space, but every now and then, after 5-10 seconds of continuing to shoot at them, they occaisionally explode before their hull reaches zero. Other times I can just leave them there and they never explode unless I keep attacking. I'm still at a loss to explain why, but I never check what damage I'm doing to other subsystems.

This is the time to panic, throw your PC out the window and run to the fuse box and cut the power!

Sorry for your loss.

I done it a few times. I play Iron man mode. So insurance is a waste of my time. But Rep for a good story.

Thanks for the rep. Iron man is tough. That was my 32nd death in the Game (non-Iron man). I probably never would have earned the Vette if I played Iron man.

Live fast, without risk there is no adventure ;)

Yup, hardcore mode in games does make death a lot scarier and the whole experience more exciting. It also provides an end to games that have no ending.

lol, you're not wrong. I practically flew around my desk when I realized the joystick wasn't working.

Look on the bright side, now you'll have more to do in game. Try a new ship and new loadouts, + you wont have to rank up again. [noob]

You are now wiser and more experienced.

Well, since Frontier seem to be incapable of fixing trivial longstanding exploits, just go to Robigo and sell slaves back to the outpost from missions that you've cancelled, you'll be back in a Corvette in no time.
