Can't get SRV back on SHIP!

Had Horizons now for a couple of months. Tonight I landed on a planet for the 1st time. deployed SRV without issue. Drove around until I got the feel of it.

Went back to ship - could not reboard no matter what I did. Drove under the ship lined up with the holographic graphic under the ship's belly selected the screen with activate turret, dismiss ship, go to boarding. No matter what I did with moving the SRV around I couldn't get the board ship option. Checked the manual. As usual it was no help.

So I dismissed the ship. Drove off about a click and recalled it.

THEN THE DAD BURNED POS WOULDN'T LAND! IT CAME DOWN AND JUST HOVERED.

So I drove under it and still no joy.

I've got to be doing something WRONG - just cannot figure out what.

Finally got so frustrated that I just bailed out and reloaded the non-horizons 64bit version and let it put me in orbit. Had to CHEAT to get out of the situation.

So what am I doing wrong? Any ideas? Horizons has been out long enough that there's no way this is a bug - it's me.

HELP!!!!

Don't fly under the ship when it is trying to land or it will send itself out from SC.

OP - the key for me was that on your right hand screen where the landing gear and other indicators are, there is one for board ship. You'll need to creep around until this one lights up. Hit the hand brake and now go choose "board ship" After a number of times you'll get good at it and won't need to fish for it nor hit the hand brake.

Good luck

I've had the ship not landing, just hovering for ages too. It's only happened since the 2.1.03 update and I think it's related to the docking computer glitch. As suggested, try driving to somewhere a bit more flat and recall the ship again.

For docking it come sometimes be a bit picky about your position. I line myself up with the hologram and when I'm a few meters away slow it right down and look down at the SRV screen. When ""Board Ship" appears kill the throttle then select to board the ship.

I've found at times I can't get under from the sides. You've got to approach from the rear. Same way it came out annoyingly but is probably so that the Ship faces away from a base that may get attacked from and you maybe running at it in that direction. Weird turntables and all ;)

I've found that provided you can drive underneath the animated rectangle, it matter whether you approach from front, rear or side.
Some ships require front docking, some rear, depends on the actual ship (eg Anaconda is ok from front and side, but the hull gets in the way for rear docking.)

I've also found that sometimes the ship will land over a jump making it impossible to drive underneath .

I find the easiest way is to approach with "flight assist on" then as the SRV is about 5metres away, turn off the assist - this gives finer control.

I've had the same recently.

Don't give up, not easy to find the proper position at first.
When you stop beneath the docking bay, go as close to it's edge as close you can, direction doesn't matter.
If you merely see any edge of the bay from the cockpit, you're most likely at good position to dock.

1st thing I tried. Board ship option shown but not selectable.

EDIT to Add: Thanks for all the great tips. [up]

I'm going to give 'em a try and see what happens.
The "Board ship" light on the right side of your main HUD (just above Cargo Scoop and Landing Gear lights) must be illuminated before you can select "Board ship" from the menu by your legs.

Angle does not matter. Just get under the loading bay after it lands and maneuver until the "Board ship" light comes on.

I had a similar problem- lined up perfectly with bay and board ship option available but still couldn't board. Eventually worked out that because I had swapped out my cargo rack for a hangar, I had to jettison the cargo I had on the SRV. Doh.

You can as long as you have room in your cargo bay. It only becomes a problem if either your cargo bay us full or you don't have a cargo bay

Nope, not true. I've had plenty of room in my ship and I still couldn't board until I manually transferred it from the SRV.
Whether that's a bug or not I dunno.

Seems like you got the Blues too! I got my S.R.V. onboard right here ;)

I found it hard at first to get the SRV lined up for boarding. I've done it so many times now, though, that I just cruise up and stop in the right spot 99% of the time. Just keep practicing, you'll get it :)

You can't board if you have cargo in the SRV.

This used to be true. It was changed, and now you can. The cargo is automatically transferred. (You still have to have space, of course).

Only time I've had a problem boarding my ship was when I landed an Orca and went wandering in an SRV.
Seems the Orca's landing gear are so stubby it can be nearly impossible to fit an SRV under it. After about 10 dismiss/recalls I did finally get it to land somewhere that gave me just enough room to ram my way under and wiggle into the hanger. I've been asking to have the landing gear extended by two feet ever since.
