Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

The fact that Ram Tah "has discovered new sites" rather than "worked out some clues regarding the ruins site" suggests this is how it was planned all along. Otherwise I would have thought FDEV would have nudged our investigation in the right direction and let us carry on puzzling with a little more education.

I have suggested this twice now over the last few days, and no one has listened or attempted to try it. :x:(

I listened, thought it was good idea & asked if anyone would try it. So three of you have the same good idea! Get together with the other two & go test your hypothesis, it sounds like it could be the solution.

A quick google has shown that only IC 2391 Sector GW-V b2-4 gets a hit and is registered on EDDB.

So someone has been there and not found the ruins - name and shame! :) I'm heading for IC 2391 Sector ZE-A d101 so that should be present soon - finger crossed for < 30 planets!

Me thinking the same, but ...

Here is a pointless thought - No one go looking!! we have NO TOOLS to search a planet - which makes ZERO sense - we need FDev to give as proper scanners NOW!!!

I don't know about anyone else but I'm not going to pointlessly scour every inch of every planet. I'm hoping the system layout will have obvious commonalities with the other one and help narrow it down but if not, eh, I have no problem calling no joy.

I don't think you'll find anyone who disagrees we need better exploration tools.

Likewise, 10 jumps away. I'm hoping the system layout gives some clues.

Edit: I really wish you could synth heatsinks, would make a fast sprint a lot more engaging!

Start with the planets around the Y class ringed brown dwarf!

That is assuming there is one of course

I am going to go to the ruins first and pick up 2x of each ancient object, managed to lose mine (kerrching)

Which there I am going to select each of those systems in gal map and see if they line up with anything at the ruins

Hey mate, don't worry, I listened and I'm sure others did too! :)

So while I haven't actually gone out and tried it directly, here's the info I have to feed in - having your ship close to the obelisks stops scanners working - this applies to both your scanner and those of other cmdrs. This doesn't necessarily rule out your idea though - perhaps there is a goldilocks distance for the ship. In my personal experience there seems to be a goldilocks zone for how close to an obelisk you have to be in and SRV to be able to scan it, and sometimes it's quite big and sometimes it's frustratingly small. Maybe something similar applies for ships. Also, perhaps ship size plays a part - I was in a clipper. A smaller ship might be easier to position precisely.

On the recalling your ship bit - good idea, but it's a real lottery where your ship will land and it's probably not going to be where you need it to. So that side of things might not be a go-er unless anyone knows of a way of getting your ship to land in an exact spot when you recall it.

Hope that's all useful!

Thanks for responding, probably redundant now we have 4 other systems to search.

I was trolling around in the Alpha Dark Region hoping to get Hyperdicted last night, no luck, so I headed to Merope 5c to check out the barnacles.

Does anyone know the location of some barnacles (I'll save you googling, it is -28.8637 -113.9954)

Ruins location is -31.8 -128.9!!! They are on the same heading from 0,0! 256 degrees

Did you know Merope 5 is a Y class ringed brown dwarf.

Bit of a coincidence?

Yes - its one of the reasons I think the ruins, the hyperdictions, the "Thargoid" ships (Not saying its Thargoids. Its Thargoids), the barnacles, the UP's, the UA's are all connected somehow.

I didn't know about the alignment of their locations on a single heading if you mapped them on a single body though, thanks for that one!

It is an interesting suggestion. I've been saying for many months that there is something special about Merope - the UA shell points to it and the hidden UP signal feports ammonia world charCteristics with respect to Merope 5C. I suspect 5C may be the remains of a Guardian arc ship covered in stellar dust and meteor impact craters.... the lore may finally be coming to light.
