Hi guys - if you are exploring, using both visual & audio - or if you are curious how the audio comes in to play when getting close to the ruins then I may have a training video for you.
It should show you how you can hear it over engines, F/A Off/On as well as distance.

There are a few tricks to assist your audio detection rate:
- If you can change "Windows Sounds, Playback-devices" the you device and the tab for "Advanced". Select 24Bit 48000HZ or better. I use this selection myself.
- In Elite, Audio options: Select "Night Time" mode. And you can safely disable music. (Screenshot provided at the end of the video).
- Fly as silent as you possibly can. F/A Off will turn off the engines. Periodical turn F/A on if you need to adjust your course.
In night-time mode the sound-engine in ED will amplify others sounds, but this means you should have as silent engines as possible.
NOTE from the field:
- If you fly at 5-6km altitude, it will be much harder to hear the sounds.
I recommend max 1km if you explore by sound.
The loss of sound-cues is higher per altitude-meter, compared to distance on the ground.
Confirmation instructions:
If you suspect you can hear similar sound, you can verify it by:
- Note down coords, F10 screenshot.
- Fly straight for 15 km.
If you hear the same sounds still, then it shouldn't be the ruins
If you cannot hear it anymore, return and see if you can get the sounds back again.
- Now try to fly patterns in/out of 10Km from that zone.
Jackpot!? Picts!
