Any stars left?

Hey guys, while not totally new to this the time I have to put in is considerably less than I see a lot of others have, not that I am complaining that's just the way it is.

Maybe a silly question but will there be stars left to discover? I see so many grinding th e hours to cross the galaxy, NESW, going to the centre just because they can and again that's all fine, just bums me a bit! I'd love be to discover a star but I have to grind hard when I get time to get very little money so saving to buy bigger, longer FSD drive ships is just taking forever. I'm so impressed by everyone's ability and determination and the game extremes. Maybe I'm answering my own question with well that's just how it is for me, but hoping somewhere there will be some patch left undiscovered haha

Yes, there are more than enough stars to go around.

To find more untagged stellar systems, try more uncommon paths around the galaxy.

there are over 100 billion star systems in elite dangerous, and around 500 billion stars in total.

the last official number i heard of explored stars was 0,0005 % ... maybe it is a zero less or a zero more ;-)

Well, with 400 billion stars, and the present rate of discovery, according to EDSM it will take '70,398 years, 3 months, 16 days to discover it entirely'. Give or take a few thousand.
So you better hurry before they're all gone.

Your going to have to go at least a few thousand light years outside the bubble before you even hope to find any.
Once you're out in the void they are everywhere.

Yes, there are lots of stars left to discover. Statistically speaking, virtually all of them are still undiscovered. The one caveat to that...the famous real life ones, and even the less famous real life ones are mostly tagged as discovered, though a few here and there are still available.

I've jumped into two, two and a half thousand systems this year. The number that had tags on anything is in single figures...

Yeah, once you get out a ways, it's actually pretty rare to find other tagged systems unless you're near some kind of obvious point of interest like a nebula.

Yes, once you get a few thousand LYs away from Sol and away from the major tourist routes, it is the stars that have already been explored by someone else that become rare. I've just spent a week and a half flying a roundabout route from Sacaqawea Space Port to Eagle's Landing; apart from my waypoints which I knew would already be explored, I saw only two or three Tagged stars out of the several hundred I visited, and all but one of those were at the point closest to Eagle's Landing (and therefore closest to Sol, only 7000 LYs away).

There are 400 billion star systems in elite dangerous plenty of stars to go around, not sure where the 100 billion came from

When I went anti-clockwise round the Sagittarius-Carina arm, I had one stretch of around 30,000ly without seeing a single tag - and when I finally DID, I was genuinely delighted.

I found this system:

HIP 99227

and this one:

Swoilz FR-T d4-18

in December 2016.

Basically, head out about 1500 to 2000 light years and start looking around, you should find some.

Awhile back I crunched some numbers.
What would it take for a commander to fully scan every system in ED. scanning Everything :)
400 billion at and avg of 40 mins per system. ( a guesstimate )
Playing 18 hours a day... (must sleep and eat)

It would take 46 million years to do it.

OP yeah there are stars left to scan.

There will be stars to scan for your great grand kids X 10.

I have a measly 16.3 thousand. and I've been out over a year. not even a drop in a oil tanker.

A tip for the op while yes close to the bible there is a lot of systems discovered but most cmdrs fly as the crow flys straight and narrow until say they hit a nebula then they will hope up and down finding stuff. So if you find your following a cmdrs tracks go up or down or to the side and bosh untagged stars also if not on a rush go economic route and loads of stars untagged as what guys tend to do is spank it out the first 2 to 4 kylies and then slow it down if they aren't in a rush on the pretence that the first few kylies has been discovered by cmdrs close to the bubble where if you look there are systems within 600 ly not been tagged yet.

Sorry guys, but while you weren't looking, I went and discovered them all. No more stars left now. I did leave most of the Earth-likes unscanned so that you can still discover stuff, except the one which was the moon of a class O star that co-orbited six black holes, and had an Earth-like moon of its own. I'll be keeping that one for myself, and never reveal its location.

Back to serious mode: to the OP, there are plenty of undiscovered systems even close to the old bubble centered around Sol, you just need to pick a less-travelled direction to go. Especially if you go above or below the galactic plane. Or if you go do the long trek to Jaques (in the Colonia system) then out there you'll find lots of undiscovered systems in the Eol Prou sector that are quite close to the station. Although you probably won't want to do this 22000 ly travel yet - just something to keep in mind for the future.

As everyone is quite correctly saying: More than 99% of the galaxy is still undiscovered.

Also mentioned often: Avoid the beaten paths. In case you need an idea where those are, I'll just post what I always post when this is the topic:
The white dots are systems known in EDSM. Even they do mostly contain untagged stars/bodies.

1 - Sol
2 - Colonia
3 - Sag A
4 - Beagle Point

I'm currently 2.2k ly away from Sol, as a point of reference.

I started going up in the map as I moved forward with the plotted course, and have since discovered at least 10 or more untagged systems. Just try and use a different way of travelling that is not a straight line. Going up or down increases your chances to find untagged systems.
