Another "VR is awesome" thread

Well the whole caboodle is winging its way to me. To say I am excited is to understate things. Furthermore Ive just found out a friend thru work is an Elite Head with VR so now I might have an ED buddy. My best mates wouldn't even know how to switch a computer on. Philistines. Thanks for the cable link Mike, Ive ordered those too. Now, is there anything else lol. If Mike says buy this, I buy it hehe.

Have you got a HOTAS joystick? Joking aside, if you're playing Elite in VR then it's almost essential.

Doesn't need to cost a fortune, I've been using a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X for two years now. It's fantastic value, under £30 on Amazon. When one of my buttons stopped working about a year ago I was so happy with the stick I just went straight out and bought another one. (actually, every time I see that it's still available at that incredible price I think I really ought to buy myself a few spares).

Yes I have an X55 Alec. I wouldnt be without it. Theres so many buttons and switches and I'm sure I dont make full use of it. I also have VA. What I do need is a label machine, so I can label the toggles on the rhs of the throttle as I invariably forget what Ive bound them to. The rest are now all reflex actions. But those 3 down the side...oh and the rotaries...

lol thanks for your faith in my choices however you do know i am having issues right? ;)

(confident all will be fine once the new cables arrive, and what i have right now is usable....... I am confident the issue for me is i have been smashing the usb 3 supported length on passive cables (officially 3m is the max recommended length for passive usb 3, rift sensor comes with 2.5m length and my current extension cable - which cost 3 quid so hardly high quality) took it to 5.5m hardly within the usb3 spec!!!

Yes Mike. I do. But I also appreciate others are not. Furthermore I am a jump in and see what happens kind of guy. I'm the guy who presses buttons to see what happens. I'm an engineer. :) Plus ever since Grant Naylors Red Dwarf book, Better Than Life ive been eager to engage with this new emergent technology. I waited until the CV became available and then just kept a passing eye on it. I expect issues too, but as an engineer its these things that also excite me. You learn nothing when things go right, but you learn shedloads through your own errors and mistakes. You gain an insight that no amount of manual reading could ever hope to provide. I tend to follow my hunches. Sometimes over a cliff, however mostly its fun. :)

lol I should be so learned that i should be a professor then :D

I adore VR, its the most hyped i have been about gaming since getting ridge racer on the PS1 back in ........ 1995/1996.

IF you have a few teething issues and it is bugging you, ED only needs 1 camera anyhow so if you begin to get frustrated simply plug in 1 camera fire up ED and all will be forgiven, and it will encourage you to keep working on it :)
