Longest commander out in the black? anyone been out since launch?

So who's been out in the black the longest? it's been 6 months or so since I did any exploring but I may plan a trip out again soon. I've done several nebula trips and to Sag A and back maybe I'll do some neutron field exploring soon.

Anyone been out there since launch or a very long time since say 1.1/1.2? I might be wrong about launch or version numers as I cannot remember when fuel scoops were released.

Fuel scoops have been out since release. I've been out since 1.3 and I'm almost back home (if I survive my latest calamity).

I'm sure there are players who were around before release who just wandered off shortly after release and are still out there somewhere. I wonder whether they still play or not?

I started in gamma, hung around the bubble long enough to pay for an A-grade FSD and an ADS then left in Jan 3301. I had a silent running malfunction that curtailed my first trip, came back from my 2nd in Aug 3301 and left on my current trip shortly afterwards. 26k systems and nearly 600kly later I aim to finish my 3rd in two or three months.

My total time in the bubble is probably in the 4-6 week region, having played most days in the last two and a bit years.

Just wondering offhand...

I don't really bother with them, but with the AFMUs can't you refill them from material you can collect now and effectively just stay out indefinitely and repair ship damage when needed, or are there still certain critical things you cant repair?

I suppose mistakes can still happen either way and you're generally fine as long as you don't make mistakes or jump into a star in a multiple star system. The latter hadn't happened to me in the game until maybe a month ago or so. Managed to get out of it alright, thankfully.

Yes, the AFMU will repair everything accept your Power Plant, Hull and itself. You only get so many shots at your Life Support because you need to turn it off to repair it. Oh and your paint work. I understand that if you bring two AFMUs then they can repair each other.

You can gather materials to refill the AFMU too.

You guys miss one detail - people who are really going on record breaking exploration marathons been out there way before SRVs were in the game. And most likely have not even got a mining laser, as they couldn't predict that synthesis will be introduced. So in theory - yes. In practice most likely all long running explorers are still running on what they've left with.

Like the clowns says - repairing stuff? That's a luxury. <said in Yorkshire accent>.

It is also for people who managed to stop off at Colonia and pick up the bits you need :)

I wasn't missing any detail. I was asking a question.

I've been exploring on and off since well before SRVs were a thing and I don't bother with AFMUs nor SRVs the vast majority of the time, hence why I was asking about them.

Cheers. :)

I wouldn't consider Colonia to be "out in the black" – especially not with the waypoint bases along the way and whatnot as it is now. Maybe when it was just Jaques Station out there after it was found and before the cultists moved in.

They still can use the Neutron boost to come back quickly.
Because...nobody wants to miss the "Ancient Ruins Lottery", right? [squeeeee] /sarcasm

I seem to remember Shadragon being out since early 3300 on a circumgalactic expedition. That's at least 18 months and approaching 2 years.

I'd say it's a fair amount easier now though in general with the star type select auto-plotting. Strange that the Fuel Rats are still in business, but then I guess there are enough people who don't know about it or don't bother with it.

I myself no longer have any need for the extra fuel tank I was carrying around on my exploration Vulture.

I was just thinking about how much less work they have now. FD should just bring more ways for us to get totally screwed, and more mechanics to be rescued by :D I think FD owe Fuel Rats at least that much, for being such a prominent driving force in the community.

Yeah, maybe supercruising between systems can become a thing to get around permit locks or something. [hehe]

9 months for me, which at the time was the longest, but there are one or two that are over a year now, from memory...

I've just landed after my second Beagle Point run. The whole Formidine-Thargoid mystery was a great deal attracting me back to the bubble.
Edit: I left Colonia in mid-October.

May 22nd will be my 18 month mark.
I'm planning on docking on that day.
I've only missed a few days of playing due to RL issues.
So I'm at a year and 2 months and 7 days.
16400 systems.
105 ELW's.
80 hull
89 PP

Time goes by fast. It seems like yesterday I was using a Hauler as a taxi to go buy my asp explorer.
