What impacts the charge time of Frameshift Drives?

Clearly, being near any mass will slow down their charge time, but are there other settings or loadouts that will decrease the charge time? For example, having 4 pips to Systems? A better power distributor? A more massive ship? Running a cooler system setup? Etc.

The only thing I have noticed that makes it charge faster is putting everything into engines and flooring it. However, I think I may have noticed a slight difference in the charge time between different ships (more advanced ones charging faster) and was wondering what the source might be? Was this just coincidence?

Haven't personally noticed any changes when upgrading, but I'm only in an Asp currently. I can just confirm that trying to jump when near stars does slow you down a bit, so yeah... obviously the mass. Not sure what else. I have 4 pips in systems and only 2 in engines. Have tried it with 4 in engines. If there is a difference, I haven't noticed it.

In my opinion masses slow your charging time becouse they slow your speed. And in fact to engage you have to be at full throttle. Sometimes i go afk while supercruising into nothing, when i come back i am like 1000c or more (max is 2001c), and it seems that charging is faster, and countdown changes: ONE - ENGAGE with massive ship tremors and strange sound.

I have no data, could be speed?

I sometimes get the 1...Engage rather than the full countdown from 4, but I have yet to discern a pattern. I'd had it in the middle of nowhere at speed, in the middle of nowhere from 30km/s and at some Mm/s in the close vicinity of a gas giant. I've had the full 4 in all the same situations. I'm starting to think it's random.

1..Engage happens if you were in normal space, entered supercruise, then entered hyperspace.
4..Engage happens if you enter hyperspace from normal space, or if you enter it from supercruise having never dropped to normal space in that system

That is categorically not the case.

So no one knows of anything impacting FSD charge time besides mass? If it matters, I am referring to "witchspace" not supercruise.

I have been wondering about this too. Thanks for taking the time to start a thread.
Here are my observations.
In my Asp* it takes about 15 seconds to go from pressing the jump key to the "Engage" message unless it is directly after an interdiction. Then it only takes 5 seconds.
It makes no difference where your pips are. 4 to systems or 4 to engines. **
The speed you are traveling at can shorten the countdown. The faster you are traveling the shorter the countdown.

* All A rated except the thrusters.
.

** Having said that. I am sure that there was a time when changing the balance of power distribution did effect the charge time. But that was in a Cobra and I was upgrading the power, FSD and thruster modules. So the figures I have cannot be used as I don't have a full set.

Just upgraded from a Cobra to Asp. Can't see any difference, I have no empirical data to back this up though. Just the feeling it takes the same time.

That is exactly how it works... It has been a bug reported since Gamma. During the 1.2 beta they even claimed to have fixed it, it still happens, you jump early if you go from normal space to SC, then perform a jump to another system

Well, it's definitely not the behaviour I see - I sometimes get the truncated countdown leaving a system without ever dropping out of SC inside it. Dropping into normal space, back up to SC and then jumping out might be one thing that triggers it, but it's not the only thing.

That's very strange. Been playing since early beta, only one thing triggers that behaviour, even the devs are aware of it. Perhaps make a video, I think you are the only one here that has experienced that issue.

No, 1-engage happens also from supercruise to hyperspace withiut passing through normal space. It happens all the time to me, several time every evening, and beeing an explorer i almost never drop out of supercruise.

Can you post a video? Would be interesting to see what you do differently to everyone else

There's an Engineers mod that reduces charge-up times, isn't there? Nothing else I'm aware of will do it.

I think that's just the boot time. Maybe there's a side effect that influences it though.

Also, thread necro FTW. ;)
