Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

Well, humanity seems to utilise standard settlement layouts (e.g. Rift/Gap/Conflux alpha, beta & gamma station layouts, There are a lot of repeated pois in the bubble with standard layouts for mining stations and whatever the other bases are supposed to be for, so this does not surprise me. Why shouldn't the Guardians have a standard layout for their library/network nodes? They may have subcontracted to the aguardian versionof Ikea.
But I'm sure there will be some differences between the sites, either we haven't spotted them yet or FD need to sort out an instancing/referencing bug, we will see in the next day or so. Keep up your spirits guys, this is a game, something to do for fun. If you're grinding too much or no longer having fun then take a break, do something else for a while, then come back & carry on sciencing! :)

I've been staring at the ruins for hours, the only difference, they're on different mud balls in different systems, everything here, right down to the loose artifacts position and their number are identical to the alpha site.

One big difference between the two sites is their orientation. Site A's ridge is oriented at the 65deg-245deg line and site B's is at the 0deg-180deg line.

Standard layout is one thing.... but the site is EXACTLY the same... in all details. The debri, the damage, the item placement.

Its a complete cut and paste.

Sorry dude, but catching up on 40 pages of this thread and all I'm really getting (other than the second site being C&P'd) is you're constant need to try and prove your theory or hypothesis still works. You're diagram you've shared about a thousand times in this thread doesn't even have matching co-ords like 32 32, -32 32 etc, they're all -32 64 and so on. You were no-where near with your 'hypothesis' so bow out gracefully and admit you were wrong [rolleyes]

Aside from posting co-ordinates of what I will check next, I have been PM'ed multiple times by different people asking whether searching 32x32 or 64x64 is a good idea to follow, and I told them it is just as good as any.

Fine, I didn't post all the combinations in one picture - but it shouldn't take a monkey to work out how many combinations you can check.

But here, all 24 combinations you can check per planet (within margins of error or within a few lat/long numbers - because, you know, nothing is ever pin-point precise, but apparently it must be in this thread):

  • -32.XXXX / -64.XXXX
  • -64.XXXX / -32.XXXX
  • 64.XXXX / 32.XXXX
  • 32.XXXX / 64.XXXX
  • -32.XXXX / 64.XXXX
  • -64.XXXX / 32.XXXX
  • 64.XXXX / -32.XXXX
  • 32.XXXX / -64.XXXX
  • -32.XXXX / 128.XXXX
  • -32.XXXX / -128.XXXX
  • 32.XXXX / 128.XXXX
  • 32.XXXX / -128.XXXX
  • -64.XXXX / -128.XXXX
  • 64.XXXX / -128.XXXX
  • -64.XXXX / 128.XXXX
  • 64.XXXX / 128.XXXX
  • -32.XXXX / -32.XXXX
  • 32.XXXX / 32.XXXX
  • -32.XXXX / 32.XXXX
  • 32.XXXX / -32.XXXX
  • -64.XXXX / -64.XXXX
  • -64.XXXX / 64.XXXX
  • 64.XXXX / -64.XXXX
  • 64.XXXX / 64.XXXX

I don't care if I'm proved wrong - but it is a little early to say I am wrong when there are 3 more Ruins to find in 3 other systems, especially since the new ruins is remarkably close to the 32x32,... no?

Well, this is awkward... still, you have to remember this is a game and the fact that everything is identical down to the last rock might itself be a hint. Either way I'm sure that we'll get some sort of a statement in the next couple of days (which I'm hoping is not just "oops it was supposed to be different") - this will spill out on the main forum and one of the devs is sure to notice.

I think its bugged because sometimes you do not get a message so they become out of sync.

This is what I gathered on my 5 or 6 runs of the mission.

In this particular case, I was testing for just that issue. C38 was the first obelisk that I scanned (fresh mission, no scans and deleted all messages) and I got the scan data mail from Ram Tah immediately upon completion of the scan.

I thought the not getting a message when you scan was caused by server overload? If that's the case it should be happening a lot less in the new site.

I got it, quantum entanglement, the two sites are identical because they are the same site, see, faster than light communications.

I'll just get me coat.

Its a pain to test this as you need to hand in the mission each time.
It seemed to me that the primary only or primary with incorrect secondary gave inconsistent results, in regards to data.
Where as correct primary and correct secondary gave consistent results.
For that reason, I ignored the G19 and C38 data results because I could not get a correct primary and secondary.
but like I said its such a pain to test as you need to hand in the mission for a true clean test each time.

I am not doubting you, I am just putting forward my findings for comparison.

So...... some form of dimensional transposition?

The plot thickens.... The dev team are a trixy bunch!

Or an asset flip.

The most disappointing thing for me about the copy and paste aspect is we are searching for unknown ruin sites,
I mean just think about the scope of creativity you can have with that, it's endless.

I'm sure most of us could sit with a pen and paper and come up with some excellent ideas about different looking ruin sites,
I would create a massive pyramid for one of them, I would also have put one on an ice world, and made it graphically different, perhaps with a tunnel underground into a hall with walls of ice, with monoliths inside,
Alien looking ships and strange structures that are all unique could be present at different ruins.

My point is the depth of imagination is endless, copy and pasting the same site is not.

It's a shame because the original ruin is designed very well, and before this FD's work on puzzles for finding the Alien crash sites was also very well thought of,
it's like FD aren't putting in that same level of thought and care into the game mysteries anymore
copy and paste, and major bugs e.c.t

Alright, since I will probably not have much time to work on this for the next week or two, I will post everything I have found out about the strings encoded in the sound the obelisks make.

First off, the 2 hours and 5 minutes recording I made yesterday gave us the following 55 strings: [Warning: huge picture]

<...>

If anyone gets any ideas or suggestions on how to approach this, then they are certainly most welcome... however as I said, I will unfortunately not be able to work on this for a while now.

Amazing work, CMDR! My main thought is that some of the information present could be intended to be compiled as a visual image. The three main signal types (high/low/both bars) in the sonogram could be something like red/blue/green pixel information, with black as the silence in between. Each string that you've identified could be a row in an image. The biggest problem for further investigation is time; with 0.5 second long pixels a simple image could take many hours to broadcast! Though that would agree with your observation of no looping in two hours.

My inspiration here is the Voyager Golden Record, which in addition to audio, also contained encoded images. In addition, the record included playback instructions on the cover. The Guardians may have used a display format non-intuitive to us- i.e. a triangular or hexagonal screen- in which case I would hope that they'd be kind enough to include playback instructions in the layout of the ruins, or other details.

I've solved it!

Right, me job's done :) I'm having a pesky migraine, so excuse me if I'm not available for questioning. Also it's my birthday today, so kind of a neat present for me, no?

Have fun!

Jolly well done CMDR!!!!

I firmly believed this task would be impossible but you've thankfully proved me wrong!

Since I have never "finished" the mission im gonna abandon it and take it again and see if I start at Deja Vu I get new stuff and if I get new stuff at Alpha site after. Wish me luck!
