Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

equations and spherical coordinates. I'm usually quite good at this stuff, so I hope to be able to produce something
usefull. Maybe XD.

My big question is the spacing between the great circle and the ruin position. As I understand it, the ruin lays on a parallel circle (i.e. not a great one)
so that the moon will trace an arc < 180°. If you could explain to me the separation between the great circle and the ruin "smaller circle" I would
be glad. (and be able to compute stuff).

I will start to draw it. Maybe something will clear up.

The 3rd discovered site actually sounds more like the "alpha" site as it seems we are getting stuff that makes some of the info from the 1st discovered site make sense.

A tinfoil hat isn't any good here the rays still get though - I'm wearing a good solid metal colander instead. First discovered site was a test site that FD didn't expect to be found and was to be removed before the puzzle went live (and it should have always been on the planet where the 2nd found site is - (hence why it is the same and that there are only four beacons ) but couldn't remove it after it had been discovered.

I'm not taking this hat (colander) off for anyone though - you're not stealing my thoughts....

Lord Braben did say something along the lines of "that'll teach us for filming a trailer in the live game", so I'm not sure they meant to remove them.

I'd say it's more likely the next site (or potentially 2 sites if Ram actually meant one per system) will be the same as the first and second that were discovered. We've known for a fair amount of time that the ruins that were discovered first were not the ones FD had planned for us to find first. I've always thought that there was going to be obscure leads for us to find them and if not then we would have a CG to get us there.

The 3rd site which (I agree with the name) I think would be very helpful if we could start referring to as the Alpha site, will have clues to work out what to do with the following sites we find. It would be like the control hub and so I see no reason for the other sites not to be exactly the same, because they would be like the receiver dishes (or some such).

As hard as it will be (and unless FD have changed things around) I think it will help to approach this site as though we didn't know anything about the Obelisks or other items.

Looking at the orbital lines of the D2 right now. Problem is that these two bodies - D2 and D3 are tidally locked to each other. Not to the star, because D2 does not have an orbit around its star. Therefore IMO the only place where the ruin can be is directly beneath the moon.

Assuming the moon (or smaller binary, whatever anyone want's to call it :)) is part of the location equation :)

I'm at Planet 1 checking that out (off at the moment, but I'll be back on later) - so the more people who check out D 2 the better (A B 3 has had a ton of CMDRs exploring it with no luck so far). The smaller planet does have silicate volcanism, similar to volcanism found on other moons (the moon around Planet 1 at the other Synuefe system is also volcanic, silicate too, I think).

If temperature is important, then the location of the ruins could be in the light on D 2 - go into galaxy map if you are on the light side of D 2 and see if you can see any of the other systems in the sky (and maybe Barnard's Loop) after you have marked the location and returned to cockpit. This is the case with Planet 1 in the other Synuefe system (you can see all 4 other systems and Barnard's Loop: link).

Sorry, wasn't aware I insinuated that :/

Aside from the new biology data etc, that came out today :D but that was in [based on] another thread (here) where I received just as much criticism and got nailed on a cross by some in the forums.

I wouldn't worry about it, with the speed of the threads on here I for one just skim read most stuff - what stood out were the co-ords you posted are very close to those that we actually have discovered - If you upset anyone that's their problem - personally I plan on getting a huge T shirt with "I told them and no one listened " on it when FDev confirms the presence of Ternary computers at all ruins sites. ( I will then wear this when alone in the house by myself sat at the computer in the dark and go happy to the grave ) :p
I hereby award you 1 internet - exhangeable for the biscuit of your choice at all participating outlets.

I think your bang on - you need to start marketing your own colander based range of headgear.

Thanks man :) it's nice not to get lambasted for a change lol. +1 respect :D

i've been cruising around 7D in the 119 system at about -30.5 lat. About 1/2 through circumnavigating. I really hope i didnt pass over it without realizing

I flew all the way around ZL-J D10-119 2, Yesterday. I took the bearing on where its moon rises and the lat was -31
nothing. only took 4 hours.
I've near flown all the way around 7D lat 30.5
both east to west bearing 270.

had my hopes up when the moon came up directly infront of me then the blue ringed planet.
prob will go check out moon 1 after this.

Observation 1: Recorded Guardian history predates human history:
"History 3: ... The Guardians' recorded history begins much earlier than it does in human history ..."

Observation 2: Genetic commonalities (and possible shared ancestry) between Guardians and humans:
"Biology 6: ... they share a similar genetic structure, with DNA and RNA their core building blocks ... this might be evidence of a common ancestor ..."

Observation 3: Construction of three ark vessels:
"History 12: ... the Guardians constructed three large arks for their first interstellar colonies ..."

Observation 4: Dimming of sun - perhaps due to a mutant star goat?
"History 3: ... although the exact cause isn't recorded, there are references to a dimming of the sun ..."

Conclusion: Guardians = Golgafrinchans - CONFIRMED.

The red sun remains stationary over the horizon, aligning perfectly with the 'notches' in the middle of the concave feature. If that is not a simple road sign or a reference point then I don't know what is. :)

Two of the relic towers also seem to indicate a path along that way.

maybe slightly *OT* but is it possible somehow to switch of that "snowflakes" FD uses to suggest speed ? they are really disturbing if u try to eyeball mk1 something...

I agree, the first site was found out of order though unexpected ingenuity, which is probably why FD started panicking when it was buggy and everything got messy.

I don't disagree with your first observation, but your quote of History 3 is not appropriate to the observation. Basically, I think the quote is just saying that the Guardians learned to write and record their history much earlier in the development of their species than when humans did.
