Was the beam laser you could get for your Cobra in that game fixed or gimballed?

Thanks.

You had three types, all fixed.

Pulse
Beam
Military

and, oddly enough compared to today, the Mining laser was more powerful than the Military one, if wasteful. TBH, it should be, at least for the "OK, it's harder than rock" hulls.

None of them aimed AT ALL.

This was on a ZX Spectrum. Your WATCH is more powerful than this if it has a calendar (and no other functionality). Serious here. It had less than 1MiPs.

I'm not sure I understand the meaning of the GIF.

Thanks. Needed the info for project 1984.

You can download the PC version which is identical, but filled in polygon sides, for free from the FD website.

Oh really? I'll check that out when I get home.

I played on the Spectrum as well, with tape loading. Which was interesting.

They say that the ZX 128 had more power than the Apollo mission ships.

No gimballed weapons, but there were rear firing lasers, guided missiles and an energy bomb that wiped out everything nearby, so in some ways the tech was better ;)

That was post 84, though. Dropped Frontier when it was worthless for me to play because of the realtime mission and having to go half a light year in a binary system on a real timered mission that I failed looong before I got near the planet.

I played the original on my C64, which I still have to this day and it even still works! Most of my floppy discs won't load anymore though, time has hidden their data away forever. [sad]

You can get the Spectrum versions from the excellent World Of Spectrum website, as well as a selection of emulators. As my avatar suggests, I fire up the Spectrum Elite sometimes.

We did - front, back, left and right lasers. Fixed, of course. No such thing as gimballed weapons or turrets in the 1984 version.

Unfortunately, that's an area where the new game has to make the compromise.

The nearest thing to side/rear lasers in today's game are turrets.
