News 2.3 Dev Update

NPCs do not universally come in wings - indeed, wings of more than 2 are rare, even in HazRes - but I do not expect multicrewed NPCs to similarly be rare. More importantly I see nothing mentioning that you cannot combine the two and end up with three NPCs, each of which has triple DPS (three fighters) and double resistance.

Ohhh, I misunderstood your question. NPCs won't have additional crew members.

Yes.
Multicrew is a new way to play , given that NPCs take no part in it you will not see it in solo.

You might still see leftovers from it , such as interfaces and things like that but nothing major.

Like wings , but without NPCs using it
Thanks.
Then I shall stay forever in solo. Well done FDEV. You have crystallised my position further.

Maybe (just maybe) there is massive content in the future that just needed a few years to make , and that it will be here in a year or two.

Maybe something for exploration , trading and more dynamic content

Thanks for the laugh!!!!! Something for explorers the man said!!!!!! :D

Although it sounds like the debug camera might be getting an upgrade, does that qualify as explorer content? It will probably only be allowed to be used while in multicrew or something….

Hi everyone ! So I have been playing E:D since the beta stage in 2014 and today I post for the first time on this forum. The reason for this is I am really hyped for the 2.3 update as it was pitched today and I want to express my support for the current design.
I love co-op games and Elite has been lacking a lot of features in this domain, so first reaction was an elated "at last, some features that will actively encourage co-op". I have IRL friends that have quit the game notably because we mostly played on our own and not together. For co-op, rewards duplication and instant transportation are killer features !

I am sorry the community is once again torn apart in another immersion/convenience debate, and I sincerely hope that this time convenience will take the day.

But they kill it for themselves only. I understand the concerns of those that don't like the instant transfer, but some things need to be done to facilitate the multicrew feature. I'm not going to judge it until I have tried it in beta plus this is only the first formal update for 2.3.

I don't think instant transfer is a problem. In reality you can see inside your friends ship instantly if he twitch streams. It's not too much of a leap.

Of course you have to have a crew member to operate the camera.

Enhanced Debug Camera uses turret controls, so it only works if you have a turret fit, and a crew member to use it...

Instant crew population is pretty much the only way that this feature will be used and escape bring consigned to the "oh, nice idea" dustbin. I don't really see the argument against tbh. (Especially people arguing against instant crew whilst also saying they won't use multi crew anyway.)
The idea of reduced rebuy *and* crew being able to drop fines, though, that's pretty much the exact opposite of a useful c+p system which lots of people have been wanting for some time. Reduced rebuy means it's even more trivial to grief, destruct and redo. I can see why people would want reduced rebuy as a carrot for going multi crew, but I absolutely think that it should be negated by engaging in criminal activity.

I know that missions/mission rewards will not be shareable in multicrew. What about if a crew has stacked massacre missions in the same system and for the same faction, then went out to the CZ as normal to destroy the enemy ships. While rewards would not be shared, would crew members be able to get credit for the kills and then be able to cash in on completing their own missions? Also will REP increase while in a multi crew?

Seems nice Fdev !!

If you don't like the drop in/out feature, you can disable it. I'am happy with it if i can play with friends without waiting 30min for gatheringg.

What about exploration data sharing ?

This LFM feature is maybe the first of his kind to be implemented in the main game.

The "only the ship owner can helm" thing needs to change.

Maybe a friend and I decide to do trade runs switch roles on each leg of the route. (like real pilots)

Maybe the pilot wants to go to the bathroom.

Maybe I want a friend to take my ship out for a spin.

This sounds....interesting. I'm on my 1st ever long range explorer/passenger mission, currently 10,000+ light years from home in a Conda. Inviting commanders over to (potentially?) go SRV racing on PRU-whatever, sounds like fun.

The ship’s owner always takes the role of helm, piloting the vessel and operating fixed and gimballed weaponry. They also control NPC fighter pilots. There can be up to two additional crewmembers, depending on the vessel, who can perform roles to enhance the ability of the ship. Players can also simply come along for the ride, with the pilot in a mentoring role. The helm also retains control over distribution of power, navigation, and synthesis.

I like so much of what is written here, but I kinda wish I could transfer helm control to someone else for a bit. I don't always want to fly. And sometimes I want to fly for my friend when their tired.

Waiting for 2.4 then :E
This is the ''headline features''
And to be honest usualy I find the headline features to be the least intresting.

We have the 1.X and the side features yet to be shown. usualy they are the core for me.

The only times I felt that the headline was the best bit was 1.2 , 1.3 , 2.0 and this update

That could be a feature for explorers.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic, but this games development has be hindered and delayed by the multi-player aspect from the very start.

First it was networking slowing development down, leading all the way to the engineers causing massive delays due to implementation .. this is going to be another of those issues .. I am certain.
Well Frontier made the decision to make an online only multiplayer game with the addition of a solitary PvE only mode. They gotta do what they gotta do to make that work, I don't begrudge them that. It's the game I chose to buy after all.

I just dislike how updates like Engineers and now Multi-Crew come along and totally obliterate combat balance and then we spend half a year sorting through the mess that makes when much of the impact could be mitigated by simply not adding such extremes in updates. Like this outline of multi-crew basically makes a joke out of everything to do with combat in the game - God mode enabled immortality boats basically making everything else obsolete. Go multi crew every time you log on or go home.

I didn't buy this game to be a deck swab. I bought it to be the pilot of my own ship, which with multi-crew now means I am going to get eaten for breakfast by all player crewed single ships. Wow... At least against a wing it makes sense why I wouldn't be able to win but now because the ship I'm facing might have God mode enabled... jeez.
