News 2.3 Dev Update

how about this:
  • Telepresence = consoles (xbox and PS4)
  • Station Only Meet-ups = PC

Basically thought here is that console players do not have the benefits of PC such as VoiceAttack, HOTAS, and other addons that make ship control mgmt, frankly, a non-issue.

Also, given PC and consoles do not cross pollinate, it would allow the "stretched" reality on consoles, while PC would remain more true to "realistic" immersion.

Bahahahahahahahahahaha

The next big thing that will delay the release of further updates will be balancing Multi-crew with wings .. mark my words
In other words 'fake content'. Making the players feel like you're releasing new updates for the game but really you're just eternally breaking and fixing one element over and over, and over again.

*sigh* I need to lay off the cynicism... It's getting too truthful.

Sounds great!

My 2c:

1. Since it's telepresence, is your ship vulnerable in space while you're in someone else's ship or are you effectively logged out of it?
2. To add to the telepresence immersion, you could have crew members glitch like the HUD does when the ship gets hit by weapons fire.
3. Can you add SRVs to the things that crew members can pilot?

Good questions. Espescially wondering if you can jump into someone's ship when your own ship isn't docked. That seems to be an important requirement IMHO. The ship you're jumping into should NOT be docked, as that would effectively lock all explorers out of multicrew. So far the only thing I am concerned about is the 'drop all charges', I need to see more details on how that will be implemented.

Maybe (just maybe) there is massive content in the future that just needed a few years to make , and that it will be here in a year or two.

Maybe something for exploration , trading and more dynamic content

Do all crew members lose their vouchers and bounties if the ship they are crewing on blows up? Suppose they were sitting on a bunch when they were piloting their own ship, then jump into another ship and get blown up? What happens then? What happens if they were sitting on exploration data, hop into another ship, and get blown up?

How it is different from Wings already?
NPCs do not universally come in wings - indeed, wings of more than 2 are rare, even in HazRes - but I do not expect multicrewed NPCs to similarly be rare. More importantly I see nothing mentioning that you cannot combine the two and end up with three NPCs, each of which has triple DPS (three fighters) and double resistance.

If I want nothing to do with this new fangled multicrew-niverse, will playing solo completely negate it and not affect my game at all?
Yes.
Multicrew is a new way to play , given that NPCs take no part in it you will not see it in solo.

You might still see leftovers from it , such as interfaces and things like that but nothing major.

Like wings , but without NPCs using it

Or just have an option in settings ''magic : On/Off''
That way players like me can have that feature hidden , whiles others can go at it

Good idea! Not sure on the communication angle, but indeed would not want to be pinged by CMDRs randomly to join a ship while I am mid system supercruising unless he is directing me to a station for pickup.

though all in all, it seems player multicrew really requires space legs. You need to "walk" onto the ship you are riding in. that is one thing I do like about SC. You simply walk onboard someone's ship and go for a ride. Stand over his shoulder and look out the glass, or walk over and sit in an empty chair. That makes sense. This here as we see coming simply seems off. Perhaps it will be like a WWII flight sim (IL2/CLOD) where you can ride multicrew in a prop bomber and shoot the guns, or drop bombs, basically replacing the job of onboard AI. However, here in ED, I just do not see the fit. HOpefully though, once out in beta and CMDRs start using it, there will be some real feedback on what it actually is, and who knows, perhaps it will be a new love for the game?!

All in all though, who knows?!

...we've got a new Dev Update for you today...

Playing mostly as explorer I feel a little ashamed to say: At this point I'm actually more excited about getting the Dev Updates back than about the actual content in this case.

So Ed, +1 (more if I could) for getting the info flowing again - please do keep it coming! :)

I see post after post from the people being perfectly fine with insta-join crew remotely, just telling the immursion people to accept it. But why be so binary. There are solutions from having a guest commander avatar to actually taking the role of one of the current SLF crew. They just come up to the bridge for a while as long as being controlled by a real player.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic, but this games development has be hindered and delayed by the multi-player aspect from the very start.

First it was networking slowing development down, leading all the way to the engineers causing massive delays due to implementation .. this is going to be another of those issues .. I am certain.

Not that I give a flying monkeys rear end about multi play, but the thing that gets me is with the now instant travel thing into peoples ships, again I dont care about that, if it save people time who am I to say they shouldn't time is precious to us all, but its the oh I'm at Sag A.

A Anybody "mate you want to see the Black Hole here?"

Mate "yeah why not"

Pooof mate is in seat next to A Anybody...Sort of kills a lot of the game.

But they kill it for themselves only. I understand the concerns of those that don't like the instant transfer, but some things need to be done to facilitate the multicrew feature. I'm not going to judge it until I have tried it in beta plus this is only the first formal update for 2.3.

Ed said earlier that the AI will not have access to multi-crew.

That's a letdown. Can't really say I'm disappointed with the feature list. Pretty much what I expected and my first thought after reading was a feeling of relief because I won't notice any of it in solo.

Adding a little challenge to the AI could habe been a nice side effect, though.

Interesting to observe an already trivially easy game getting easier with each update. Pretty much like an RPG adding potions, 5 levels of enchantments to all gear and now additional raid options whilst giant rats are still the only type of enemy available.
