News 2.3 Dev Update

If the immersion guys are gonna ruin this multicrew system then I will simply stop playing the game completely and will spread the word on how disgusting this game is.

This is infantile and concerning. You would diminish the game, on purpose, in the eyes of a wider community because you hypothetically didn't get your way with one module of the game? And are so certain of this course of action that you memorialize it in a post on that company's website? Sad.

If you do NOT like the instant "telepresence" then you are FREE to meet with your friend and keep your immersion. Just because you can, doesn't mean that you have to. Stop ruining the game for all the other players just because you have 24 hours per week to pour into this game. Most of the players have lots of other stuff to do like going to work, care for their families and also shockingly play other games. Some people are lucky to even play few hours per week. Elite's gameplay just doesn't ALLOW easy and swift meetup with your buddies and that's why "telepresence" has to be a thing for the multicrew to work.

I play a few hours per week. I'd like to see telepresence deployed as NPC crew when players fail to meet up in the same station. Stop using "all." You represent your POV; I, mine. Niehter of us can claim to speak for anyone else here. We CAN claim the power of democratic discussion of the potentials and possibilities. Unless, of course, one or both of us submits foolishness like "I will...spread the word on how disgusting this game is" if I don't get my way.

I can't believe the big outrage over the tele-presence feature! If you claim to want "immersion" and realism then perhaps you should enforce it upon yourselves and create a new CMDR every time you die!

The real issue should be that the multicrew feature is next to useless in any way other than combat. The gunner position I'm fine with, but fighter pilot seat?! We already have AI that can do that, plus they even state that anyone can fly the fighter from any seat! I want an engineer who can control power distribution and system repairs. Or a navigator to plan the next few jumps while in transit. Give them something to do! Also not being able to let someone else take over the helm is pathetic. If I trust someone enough to let them fly my corvette then I should be able to let them take the helm while I go take a ! WHERE'S THE IMMERSION!

All this update is going to do in my eyes is highlight the things we CAN'T do

This is the same group of gamers that said our time was worthless and we had to wait for ship transfers, you know, just because...

Yeah, it's getting a little absurd. Not a single non-combat role in multi-crew? You couldn't even make 1 work, FD? Come on.

This is the very crux of the huge problem that Elite Dangerous has going on right now: Frontier has spent so many point updates adding combat mechanics and giving combat players content that it is the only aspect of the game with enough actual frackin gameplay to allow multicrew to have anything to do with it. Exploration and trading just don't have enough mechanics or features to give crews anything to bloody do in the seats of the ships. That's not because exploration and trading couldn't have any use for multicrew (there are tons of possible ways both could utilize multicrew), it's simply because Frontier haven't bothered to DO anything with exploration and trading over the course of the past two years. They've stagnated to the point of not having any actual gameplay mechanics, where as their baby darling combat does. And so here we are. Again. Frackin again.

You are right, it is absurd. And it's tiring, and frustrating. But it was predictable, and even expected. And that is oh so sad for a game with over 400 billion star systems to explore.

Are you going to allow us to rename our CMDR when the update comes? Some people may not have the name they want for their character.

That's not entirely true, though, it does feel like exploration and trading are languishing. It would be nice if an annual roadmap was published, so we could at least feel informed regarding what's coming and when.

Two guys that immediately come to mind i would love to fly on their ships: Obsidian Ant and Kornelius Briedis. Would be awesome to just 'drop-in' with Obsidian, sit back and enjoy the wonders/fringes of the galaxy OR with Kornelius Briedis for his in-depth knowledge of the game [and in hopes that some of that money rubs off] :) There are a few others out there but these two guys come to mind.

However, as they share the benefits, so too do they share the punishments. Any crime that the ship suffers is applied to all crewmembers equally. But when a Commander leaves or ends a session, the crew will have the option of avoiding taking the crimes with them, but in doing so, will lose all credits earned. It will be their choice.

This won't be exploited at all ;)

Sorry, but this isn't consistent with the rest of the game - you commit a crime, you do the time .. but now, multicrew, you can be a bad boy and have it all forgotten about in the blink of an eye.

No consistency.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

No different than before when you could just buy a Sidey and commit suicide to wipe your record clean.

That's a bizarre choice, for a regular wing they're just split aren't they, or am I mistaken? Should work the same either way.

Also, how about other income? Still no sharing of missions and their rewards? Still no accounting for groups by offering missions of increased difficulty and a higher reward?

I can't say I'm a fan of the "extra power pip per player" feature. This should be fleshed out to another crew role, the flight engineer, that manages ship power more deeply, much like the similar role in Artemis. Adding a shield management system allowing shield power to be directionally controlled would also be a welcome feature for this crew role.

There also need to be options for these roles to double as non-combat roles, or to have new non-combat roles included.
Combined combat/non-combat roles could be:
-Flight Engineer/Navigator-Comms: Plots course, allows microjumps or boosted SC, comms with station/system security from SC.
-Flight Eng/Refinery tech: Runs the refinery on a mining ship. Manual control allows better mineral extraction?
-Gunner/Sensors spec: Telescopic view camera, can perform surface scans on planets from high orbit, seeing POIs in real time on planet surfaces. Can get USS data before dropping in to visually inspect, allowing faster inspection of multiple USS. Can detect things currently hard to detect until up close, like geysers, barnacles or ruins.
-Fighter Con/Limpet Con: allows manual flight of limpets. Manual flight limpets can refuel each time they dock with command ship, and prospectors could be made multi-use.

Sounds very interesting... better than what I expected. So does this mean, there will be no magic fairy-dust buffs for multi-crewed ships?

I am so excited for this update!!!! I can already see flying around with friends goofing on my Wireframe Anaconda!!! And I still owe you a kill Ed!!!!! I'm gonna shoot you out of the sky between now and PAX!!!!![big grin]

Sounds like some fancy gameplay Sandro :)
But i'm worried about the benefits for exploration, mining, trading and all this stuff. Also i'm asking you, if there is a chance to rethink the 30km range of fighrers :/
And what's about BGS influence changes? :D
If 3 cmdrs in 3 ships do pewpew with system authority, will 1 ship with 3 cmdrs have the same effect on influence or is it still just one ship? Same for trading and combat missions etc.....
