General / Off-Topic Brexit: MPs overwhelmingly back Article 50 bill by 498 votes to 114

Each side had thier experts... but still, very few facts were given - at least when you look at them from the point of view of the average voter like myself. At the end I had to vote for what I believed to be the right decision.

Talking of propoganda - why are reciting the whole 'vote out means you're racist' rubbish?

Your tone and comments suggest that you are stay supporter. So why didn't you vote? You seem far more clued up on the whole affair than I am so I don't understand why you'd abstain. And yes, I own my vote and the responsibility that entails. Can you say the same?

He has not yet understood the meaning of the words "Majority" / "Minority" ---- He thinks that to win, it is necessary to be minority

Yes makes sense. And I do not see the UK crippled

We haven't left the EU yet.

We haven't even invoked Article 50 to start the (up to) 2-year negotiation period - and there's no guarantee that an agreement either be reached in that time or will be even as good as what we have now.

To leave the EU is not necessarily synonymous with apocalypse

Any deal we get with the EU is going to be worse than we already have - they have no incentive to offer a deal that is equal to what we currently have, indeed it can be argued that they require to offer a worse deal as a warning to other EU states that might be consider leaving at some time.

We then have to negotiate trade deals with other countries (that are covered by EU trade deals at the moment) - and as a smaller economic bloc, I doubt that our bargaining position will be as good as the EUs was when they negotiated the existing deals.

If the majority of Europeans decides to invade France, when are you going to surrender?

There is in France a village which always resists the invader of Brussels :)

Thank god for some sanity, some faith in UK democracy restored. I'm narked off with the liberals ing all over democracy though. This fantastic world where an UN elected person can run roughshod over the democratic rights of people because a vote didn't go the way SHE liked...yeah I'm taking about Gina Miller. What g right has SHE got to do that???

I just hope two things happen, UK gets out of the EU. Open borders are replaced with security checks and everyone ing and moaning about it off out to all the "paradises" out there in the world that are SO much better than the UK.

With Trump's America, Putin's Russia, the EU has rather interest to make of good affairs with the UK. The EU is against the United States of Trump, against Putin's Russia. She will be also be against the UK ?

Yeah!

What right has anyone got to question the government using the law?

I mean, how dare anyone ask elected representatives to have a say!

Democracy forever!

I voted for my MP assuming he is in a better position to judge whats best for my areas interests. I'm Welsh and voted to remain in the EU mainly because we get a lot more in terms of employment rights, investment and grants than we could ever hope from England. Fortunately my MP had the confidence and balls to vote in my countries best interests and not follow what my fellow citizens read about in the Sun once and now believe they are informed.

My take on the situation is the US, China and Russia amoungst others will make us a success for the first 4 - 8 years until other countries start jumping ship and then we're (Europe) are in for a wrough time and a decline into stagnation.. if we're not there already.

But saying all that if the PM can get a free trade deal with both the EU & US and sells more guns to Turkey etc then we'll have an interesting ride which she could pull off, just wish the papers would stop playing the morality card, the sun set on the Empire long ago and with it our world role. I say that's just prosper and let the world look out for itself and take what we need. Thets get the policy book from Elizabeth the firsts time (but without the piracy and other dodgy stuff she did to her people).

Heres to interesting times,

PS if i loose my job i get more time to play Elite :/

I did mention the water imports of the UK in the other thread.
Good look getting a primary good from Russia or the US .. trough the atlantic or EU Territory.

Scotland would be able to export enough water to meet the needs of the UK, and is a net exporter of food to the rest of the UK.

.... and thankfully it's a publicly owned resource (as the Scottish Government has refused attempts to get it to sell off Scottish Water).
