Newcomer / Intro Galaxy map difficult to read

I still have not mastered the galactic map. I am trying to see the sphere of power of a given superpower, but since it is internal (i.e. surrounded by other powers) i am not able to see it clearly. As soon as I zoom out, I see it submerged by the spheres of other superpowers. Isn'there a way to turn off the unwanted superpowers? Or at least to have a list of all the controlled/ exploited systems of a given superpower?

Switch your filters (third tab, it is?) to powerplay and un-tick all powers except yours.

? Uh... if it is so simple I beg your pardon... but... I have been looking for them for ages and could not find them... I'll look better.

Hmm, so I checked. Either something got changed or I don't remember it correctly.
It's fourth tab (third is bookmarks, now, sorry) switch to powerplay next to the "Realistic" and "Map" modes and switch from "Overview" to "Expansion" mode. That highlights your power (Or the one that you've chosen above) but strangely enough it doesn't completely turn off the other powers. I could swear it did.

Moreover, in that way (if I understood the tutorials correctly) it does not highlight the systems that are controlled or exploited by that power, but the ones that are eligible for expansion. It is not exactly the same...)

What would be useful would be to stay in the "overview" mode and just ticking on and off the powers one by one

Yes, I agree.
(you CAN highlight the Control systems, though, and when you mouse over the system you'll see its sphere of influence)

The Xbox map is just plain awful.

What would be nice is the ability to login (using CMDR name) to a Frontier site that shows the map I can see and allows me to use my laptop to look at maps/plan routes. Much easy on a PC and means I can fly and look at maps. Also could plan routes while at work..... :)

I thought somebody did that already.... I can't see a bookmark to it on my PC but I could have sworn that I saw a site that did that.
