THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

hello commanders!

sorry to disrupt your search!

i have just finished reading Elite : reclamation. Great book, highly recommend!

how\where does the story continue from there? is there a summary of devolopments so far?

would it be realistically possible for one person to follow the story through in-game methods?

or did the story progression come from random galnet articles and things scattered across the galaxy?

Two things need to be done:

1. locate the base as quickly at possible.
2. rescue CMDR Baton, who has found the Gap Delta-Base and thus helped a lot to solve this mystery.

If you have a good explo-ship head out to PRU AESCS NC-M D7-192 A3A and join us.

I have plotted a course...unfortunately, i need 503 Jumps, while using ~ 35 Neutron Stars. So it may take me a while. But i will not leave any weapons behind. This is a serious Situation. Since he won't respond to Diplomacy, we may persuade him by showing force and giving him a choice. Hopefully, he will not harm CMDR Baton in this process. The Risk however is equally big, since i don't belive anyone will be able to get 50 LTD's in 3 Days, that are NOT stolen or "acquired"

Hmmm...

Don't believe ive seen this before...

Any input?

I have - in CQC. Those are the new Stations put into Elite - AFAIR. However, my guess is - since FTL Comms need to be boosted somehow - they are going to appear all around the Galaxy...

Front page of this very thread would be a good place to start!
and for more on Kahina's story see here.
And every Galnet article related to here can be found here

Hm looks like I picked the right time to be back in the bubble and switch back to my tradeVette. I'll have her combat ready ASAP with a decent jump range (G5 A FSD). Let's cook some hostage takers.

Actually, if we're going to RP this out... Can we get agreement that we either all play in Open, or all in the same private group? Because, you know... At least a chance of being matched into the same instance.

My time is precious, I have better things to do than sit on this rock waiting for you to get me what I want. I guess 300 tonnes of stolen ones is OK.
They would have to be delivered to specific location inside the bubble, one of my guys can pick it up.
Let me know when you have the goods, and I will give you the location and time.

And remember - the clock is ticking, I think I overestimated his air supply, so you may need to be quicker - har har!

So delivery inside the bubble... that cuts down on travel time back to conflux... I'm still betting this end in a munitions delivery instead of LTD :D

I know what you mean. I'm in system in conflux in open and all by myself. No searchers, no rescuers, no hostage, no terrorist

When exploring far out I'm always in open. Greifers dont make the trek out when theres so much more opportunity in the bubble. Since they need the attention they prefer to stay where the hunting grounds are fertile

I'm just doing some lightweight mods to... Erm.. My mining lasers. Then I'll head to the... Erm... Resource Extraction Zone.

So, have all the Earth-likes within 200ly of the Rift bases been searched for beacons?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to head back to the bubble. I don't have many hours per week to play, and if there's no point in sitting out here any more then I'll head back. But I hate to miss anything now that we finally have some breadcrumbs after 2 years of waiting...
I'm not sure TBH, I was away from the forum for a few days as I moved home.
There's a link to a partial list of searched ELWs in my sig, but it is out of date.

It's difficult to see ghosts and harder still when they watch in silence.

Now that'd be a good scanner... Let's you scan the surface for ships (CMDR's, obviously would be the primary target) and then performs the magic of locking you into to the same instance.

Anyway, lightweight mods allowing, I'll hopefully be int he Conflux tonight. What are all your time zones?

Currently in UTC +11, but will be UTC +8 from Thursday - though not sure how much game time I'll get from then...

1. Don't assume that a willingness to negotiate equals a willingness to capitulate. The first rule in a hostage situation is to keep the terrorists talking.

2. The demand goes beyond any reasonable assumption that we can meet it. We have to assume that the roleplayers expect us to mount a rescue.

3. If done well then at least some of this will make its way into Premonition. Those who aren't in to RP'ing won't have to endure this for long.

4. In three days we will have the coordinates to the site regardless of what happens. I don't believe for a moment that Baton intends to hold the information hostage from the community. This is just a short pit stop.

So... How do we rescue Baton and recover the settlement data? We should contact the Colonia Militia. They are close and could be in the Conflux in very short order. We arrange to "Deliver the Diamonds" and then take the accomplice into custody. We can then negotiate from a position of relative strength.

We have enough information from the pics that were released to narrow down the planetary search. We know the kind of terrain. Is the planet tidally locked? If so we can look at the shadows to judge the relative position of the sun.

We can do this.

UTC+0 so off in a bit as I'll be on a train into work in 6 hours time

I've been sitting here eating my dinner and studying the googledoc that was originally attach to Bartons announcement and noticed something out of the ordinary. The legend and the colors don't match up. There's a color that's not assign to any CMDR. Columns AQ and AR also depart from Barton's usual pattern. Might be something, might be nothing. I will test my theory and report back. Have a look:
