Thanks. Honestly I really don't get why so many people want to be against this. I don't think it's too much to ask.
Some people seem to have an automatic butt hurt for opinions that differ to their own, the true tragedy of which is that they can't keep themselves from simply shutting up and not commenting on something which clearly won't affect them one way or the other.

I totally agree with the sentiments of OP, FD; Are you really going to nerf long hair just because it's not realistic with remlock? Well...Maby you shouldn't have bloody made the cockpits out of glass and put the cockpit in the most safest part of the ship covered in armor. LOL take that for realism or logic.

I don't at all care about which hair cuts are available but, when people look at the outrageous work FD have put into the Creator, and Avatars and insist there are signs of laziness, I loose all respect for their ability to match reality to what's in their heads. Not being favored with your personal hair style in game is not cause enough to try and take away from the excellent work done.

Call for the longer styles, I can sympathize but, be realistic and respect the reality that's right in front of you. The coming CC has been expertly wrought, and credit should be given where is it due.

One thing I have noticed about the photographic evidence presented in this thread for long hair operating in zero G is how happy and engaged in their activities all the people look.

Being in orbit in a zero G environment... that must totally rock.
Either that or space agencies hand out the happy pills like candy :p

I agree with the OP, that long hair should be an option.

Frontier's reasoning in the livefeed was to claim that "you can't have long hair with a helmet", which is not a reason for anyone who has ever worn a helmet with long hair...there's some other reason going on and this is just an excuse.

The player community of course going off the rails in some desperate defense of Frontier, posting photographs of astronauts with long hair and claiming it would be a problem with realism, all the while ignoring the fact that Elite is a GAME in which SPACESHIPS for some reason are built with WINGS, whose ships IGNORE the laws of conservation in space.

The entire point of a custom avatar is to allow the player exceptional freedom in creating their character's looks, period. So why the lack of longer hairstyles? This is easily predictable to bother many people, and just doesn't make sense.

On a side note, as a motorcycle rider, I've seen plenty of girls with very long hair tuck it into their jacket.

ie - it just goes straight down their back, and the jack it put on over the top, and then the helmet. I certainly see no remlock/helmet issue there. Anyway, I'm kinda hoping FD will implement longer hair in future, just in case i do want to recreate my mid 20's self. Though, for now, the Lego version of me works well.

Lazy? They just demoed one of the best character creators in all of the video game industry, and you think it was lazy??? :S

Sure it's missing long hair, but just stop for a second and contemplate the amount of work that it takes to create and implement a video game character creator of the magnitude, customization, and graphical fidelity of what Frontier showed us today. If you can't, maybe you don't have any idea from a development point of view, then let me tell you that it's fracking impressive, and it took a BOATLOAD of hard work by a LOT of people to pull off.

Lazy? You have zero idea what you are talking about. You can hate the lack of long hair, that's fine, but to call them lazy for lacking long hair after showing what they DID show today? No, sorry, your opinion is veritably wrong.

I personally will grant you this.....the facial features and skin textures and face customization were spot on. Body customization was lacking, it seems that only fit people are allowed in space in 3303........

and the lack of hairstyles was disappointing imo

so while I wouldn't call it laziness as what they did produce was top notch I will say that it was a most probable case of short sightedness and quite possibly cutting some corners to put an update out in what many would consider still overdue but still reasonable amount of time. I don't think anyone expects this implemented before 2.3 goes live but it would be nice if this was an option down the road or at the very least a means of shaking some more change out of us in the store.

I said it earlier but I'm not sure if it were seen or not but this to my isn't so much as laziness but just a place FDev seem to be okay with pushing the line to see what they can get away with. And again, I'm not saying that's a bad thing for them to do necessarily. But this is the oddest area for a character creator of a modern game to take that sort of line with. I can't think of a single game with a good character creator in it with such limited options on hair. There's plenty of bad ones though. (Dark Souls) Given that every single thing else about this one is amazing, is there any reason reason for people to not feel that it is lazy?

These comments like these I swear...

I'm an amateur bodybuilder. I have bodybuilding trophies on my wall. I didn't see any option to make my avatar jacked but I'm not crying about it. What I saw is a crapton of options so I will probably be able to get the face to look close to how I look and I will be happy if that's the case. We can't have it all but FD are already giving us a lot. If the elite me can't bench press 315 lbs and deadlift 535 I will live as long as I still get to kick some space booty and take names.

Could have something to do with the way you're asking, really.

"Our ability to customize our avatars with the same features we've already envisioned is as important as our ability to hyperjump!" kind of smacks of silly levels of indignation.

I mean nobody would say no to more options, obviously, but come on. Give it a break.

Of course it has EVERYTHING to do with how Momoka is posting. Since 2.3s announcement last year people have been complaining on the forums for months AND guess what happened with the live stream 99.9% of those complaints vanished and FD got praise....AND NOW THIS.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING....

I'd love to see options for luxurious nose and ear hair!
LOL! I truly did. Rep++

The character generator has a Age slider; I wonder if it will allow me to have extremely bushy eyebrows. I won't need the nose and ear hair option; I pluck those, even the hairs that now (for some strange reason) sprout from the tops of my ears. (Oops, I may have over-shared.) :D

What? How on earth is that an inappropriate thing to say? I spend a lot of time building up my character. Part of her identity is how she appears in my mind's eye. If it's not important at all the why bother with this update to begin with. Why not leave all of us in the helmets forever then if that's how you look at it.

Gotta disagree here. What they've done with the character creator is far from either lazy or the bare minimum, which is hugely refreshing for a change.

They decided to omit longer hair for some reason and that's just FD's trademark eccentricity popping up to say hello again. But they have done a fantastic job on the character creator and hopefully they can surprise us by adding a few longer hair options to make as many people happy as possible. They've already done the time consuming ultra hard part of creating this system from scratch so hopefully they see your thread and decide to add some longer hair.

I'm all for cosmetic options, but I don't see them as critical, and they very well may be too much to ask for, at least immediately, on FDev's great deadlines vs. effort vs. profit analysis.

I don't even know how to respond to that. Suddenly I'm a the bad guy here?

I don't...
