Hardware & Technical My X-55 broke now I'm a Troll on the Forum

Wouldn't it make more sense to use the rudder pedals as gas/brake in the SRV, or am I being weird?

Not at all. I actually use the CH Pro Throttles ministick for steering and the rudder pedals' toebrakes (more like "whole foot" with the MFG crosswinds) as accelerator and brakes. The joystick is turret control. It's great!

@OP: May I ask why you did go with Saitek again? Both, the CH Products HOTAS and the Warthog would probably last you a lot longer. The former being rather old fashioned hardware, with zero flashyniess and gimmicks, but a boatload of hat switches to put functions on and alleged very, very high reliability. After I sold my X52 Pro due to it being poorly designed, reviews like those leave me with zero confidence in the Saitek sticks.

Another vote for the CH Fighterstick here.
Mine must be about 10 years old now!
I also have the CH throttle and pedals. Nothing has ever gone wrong with any of them, apart from the time I took a stick with me when I went travelling.

A stick may last 10 years of normal use, but only about 5 minutes with Air France...[cry]

Yep Mine broke under warranty a month ago. trigger went...

Logitech have put the claim on hold until I send them pictures of it being destroyed before they send a replacement X56...

Errr no was my reply.....on your bike sunshine it's still usable and I'm not waiting another month for you lot to pull your fingers out... Waiting for them to reply.

I bought the unit March 15 they come with a 2 year warranty don't they? (For those who's units broke just over a year..)

what he hell has happened to quality? I'm STILL using my X36F and X35T, it's got the cable that y splits to a USB AND the old connector that I think used to plug into sound cards!!! Still working fine apart from down on the one hat is a bit dodgy. I'm certain I used this stick with TIE fighter it's THAT old!

Wow That's bad customer service
My experience over 20+ Years with Thrust master is
OK send us your broke stick & we will fix or replace it! I think the most I have waited is a week & a half for my stick to do the round trip & I have only had to contact them twice in that time for warranty returns

Broke three Saitek joysticks in three years 2 x X55 and 1 x X56 (1 X55 and 1X56 in the same year) and found their build quality not good enough for this type of game (great for flight sim though) and so moved to Thrustmaster Hotas Warhog and although it does not have twist in the stick (I use Saitek pedals) it feels a lot sturdier then the Saitek models.

My Guess is that it is something to do with the Buying of Saitek by Madcatz, then Madcatz went downhill fast, sacked a WHOLE load of its workers, bought in inferior componants to save money etc etc!

Now Saitek has been bought out by Logitech it SHOULD (Note word SHOULD) get better, but i guess this will take time and the Saitek products still in the use and market will be the useless ones made by the Madcatz-Saitek brand.

What kind of abuse do you put your hotas through? I have my X55 for 2 years and 100s of hours in elite and it's not showing problems. Except few buttons feel like they've been used a lot.

To be fair to Logitech they probably didn't realise the poor quality of the X55 build.

I emailed them yesterday so I expect I'll get a reply in the next month.

The Trigger went and I would have been quite happy for them to just repair but it's still usable and there's no way I'm destroying it.

Talk about a throwaway society.

For me the first broke after three years (two and a half years of flight sim) with main action button going but the last two broke in the twist and that's in the last two years of game play and I do play a lot.

I expect a Hotas or joystick to work for a reasonable amount of time, having experience a reasonable amount of use to which it was designed for. You sir, are one of the FEW lucky X55 users who have not had a single issue. You should make yourself known to Saitek, they may use you for their Marketing campaign, lord knows they can do with some good feedback.

BTW, it is not just this forum that the X55 has achieved an all time slagging, reddit, twitter, Fb in fact just google it!

May your X55 continue it's good service to you! ;)

Well i kinda fix my roccat mouses when they get doubleclicks or some other stuff, i'm not affraid of screwdriver but i never broke anything in that X55, maybe it's because i rarely use twist. Pitch roll like crazy but i avoid yaw.

At £200+, i really don't expect or want or feel i should take a screwdriver to a product that is just 3 months old, then when the send a replacement for a different component to go with another 4 months, then when they send the 3rd replacement with yet another DIFFERENT failure, taking a hammer to the product not screwdriver actually springs to mind!

I applaud you sir and the others who have taken these to bits. I have watched all the vids on the potential repairs, the lubrication, the strengthening, but when you pay £200+ for a product you really should not have to go withing 200 feet of it with a soldering iron/screwdriver. I could if i want as i have a background in Engineering (Marine) i know how to use tools, but why the flying flip should I. BTW, their Tech Support is about as good as their products and during the long drawn out process of contacting them explaining to them, i know where i would have like to take a screwdriver to!

As i said, i admire people who do there own repairs and applaud you But me? I pay money i expect to get what i paid for!

o7 Sir!

Because it's mostly made by idiots who don't care? Sometimes You have to do it to get the most out of product. Everything is being made poorly. When was last time that keyboard lasted 10+ years?
It's not about engineering most of the time. It's about doing watch repair work, especially mouse, those springs are so small and plastic that thin breaks fast. I have to figure out how to break rotary button on my keyboard that is messed up, big thanks for youtube and how to videos.

OP, in all honesty, were it me, I'd have gone the Warthog. Hopefully, though, you get a good'un, and it lasts you many years.

Z...

Sorry disagree, you pay good money you expect a good product. I don't pay lots of money to take it apart 3 months down the line to make it better and make it work.

I complain and ask for money back or a working replacement. It's actually called 'Fit for Purpose' and we have a law in UK (Europe) that says same as me! Like i said i admire those who dive in and fix the issue, but i do not agree with them.

Logitech came back and said they re happy for me to cut the cable and send them photos, so at the least I don't have to go nuts with the baseball bat.

Bit like this...
