Aaargh!!! <Removed ~Brett C> griefers...

It took me several runs to finally earn a bit of money. I was up to 17.000cr or so, when I did a run from Aulin to I Bootes. And I got shot, no 5km from the exit of the Aulin station, I assume by one of those coward griefers. And so I lost all money....

1) Why did I lose everything? When I lost my ship yesterday (because I emerged from SC withing the structure of a station) I got back a ship and almost all money. I took the same offer for a free SideWinder both times...

2) What can be done against those griefers? Police should be more powerful in (federal) station vicinity, I would say. If I fly towards Aulin I get stopped two times for a scan, but those <Removed ~Brett C> can hang around the entrance of the station without trouble?

I'm really <Removed ~Brett C> off now...

The full penalty system and policing isn't exactly fully in the game yet to be honest, so in terms of your point 2 - give it time.

But a small word of advice, if I may (at least for the meantime) - try not to put too much of your capital into your cargo run (I know, I know, it seems counter-productive - but at least if you get blown to bits right now as things are, you won't be flat out broke and starting completely all over again!).

Full law enforcement in safe systems is incoming in normal beta, most likely first build. At this point police force is non-existant (unfortunately), also those flying around station isn't exactly powerful enforcers :)

How much money you invested in cargo?

How much money you invested in cargo?

That doesn't matter, because I lost everything, and got a fresh SideWinder plus 1000cr. I think I had less than 1000cr in cash (the rest was in my cargo), but somehow it all seemed to be re-set to initial status. And that's the second part I don't understand (yet)

Yep, same thing just happened to me (in the same location, perhaps the same pirate/murderer?), lost my little Hauler I had just bought and the cargo too... ah well back to the sidewinder it is ;)

Imagine the fun though when you kill them, had my first two kills within the first hour of playing the game 550 in bounty already claimed. :) Nice start to my Elite experience.

Aaargh!!!

It just happened again! I have done 5 runs between I Bootes and Aulin, just saw my balance the first time with a 2 at the front, and again I lost everything...

'Insurance' doesn't work, it just gave me another SideWinder, and 1000cr.

Ok, this time it was just a bit under an hour, but still...

Have you tried setting 4 pips to your engines and boosting away the moment you spot them? Basically treat anyone as hostile until you're comfortable.

I'd advise using your free sidey and building up your cash in either the Federal Distress scenario or the Resource Extraction scenarios... Builds up cash and improves your combat skills as well without risking losing your hard earned cash invested in your cargo....

Stick with it, you'll make it!

You are aware you are 2 more times away from being suspect of insanity, right ?

game saves on respawn so just kill the game before respawning. Seems like cheating but given the current state of the game no one will blame you. Just don't do it when you die from your own mistakes or proper combat.

Insurance is not covering your Cargohold. Only your ship and your equipment NOT your cargo.

If you put every last credit to fill your cargohold and you blow up tis LOST.

No... do not do this... FD have requested that people do not do this as it knackers the instance causing havoc for other players especially in Space Station instances...

Naughty! :p ;)

Then please do something that its not even feasable in the first place...because our griefer friends are doing it all time when they get the short end of the stick...and many victims from those griefers are getting to be forced to use it -.- in order to keep what they grinded.

That they all hauled with them....why not also lube up just for the decrease in time spent getting screwed? Haul loads of low to average worth not diamond encrusted gold ***...

Yes its totally true we should spent 4 days cargoing low value stuff in order to minimize risk/profit to a hold, done that already lost everything because of the namechange, shortly AFTER i grinded myself with trading from a sidewinder to a cobra before we got the Hauler.

So dont start telling me how awesome grinding is. Playing a game with a progression line that gets cut off by griefers is not progression its pure frustration to the point were i said to my self i wait before i start "grinding" again until we have a functioning criminal/retaliation system.

And i hope that we get it with the standard beta...or all this will get alot worse. I dont wont carginsurance that would ruin compelty the balance between risk/reward for traders.

But you cant deny every trader has the most to lose right now and doesnt get any retaliation for that.

Seems to be almost an organised effort, really.

I just ran into a griefer at Chango. There was a floating coffee canister near the station, so I went to scoop it up (because why not?), and a sidey tried to ram me and/or the cargo canister. They misjudged it, overshot, then looped round and opened fire on me. I put everything into engines and streaked for the station, skimming the hull and staying with the rotation, then did a tight turn and dead stop right in front of the toastrack.

Vacuum-for-brains goes and overshoots me *again*, obviously trying to kamikaze me before I can get to safety. I try not to laugh too hard as he nearly plows into the toastrack, then whistle up traffic control and get my landing permission. I hit burners into the station and saw my new friend explode into pretty lights as the station defenses ripped him up.

I'm still giggling like a mad fiend as I type this. :D

There is no police yes but instead of adapting to this instead you herpa derp when you know some people blow up others for fun and/or experience ( if they really are pirates right now they care more about knowing how fast a trader goes down and practicing to make it possible to do it even with the police around ) .

Oh and you could spend 4 days slowly grinding stuff up carefully or you could spend 4 days getting kicked back to the start because you expect what? Somehow people not to blow you up because you have valuable cargo and/or are a good example of a target they will go for post release? Live in the world you are not in the one you want to be, it gets less frustrating.

I would just focus on combat at this stage as money dosent mean anything because of the upcoming wipe.

TL;DR version is at the bottom.

Agreed. Get your combat skills up, learn to fly under any conditions, even with no canopy (did that once - got home safe and sound), learn how to enter and exit stations the first time, every time.

Learn how to destroy ships in the combat zones, what the durability, speed and firepower of the different ship types are. Learn how to evade and run: practice on the interdictions and the dumb***ess who like to camp outside stations.

Learn some flight-assist-off tricks: they're worth mastering. Learn to dogfight at full speed in an asteroid field. Learn how to sideslip, jink, high-speed yoyo and immelmann. Learn to scoop cargo without spending 5 minutes at crawling speed.

And when the game launches, and the law enforcement systems are in place, and it actually matters what you do and where you do it, THEN you can go and be a trader. A trader that will know how to fly, how to fight, how to run and how to hide. A trader who has dealt with griefers and pirates, who knows the limitations of their ship and their enemy's.

A trader who is, if not actually Elite, then at least Above Average.

Oh, and a last thing about griefers: they love reading these forums and collecting people's tears and rants. They giggle and feel warm inside every time they see some post starting with "That's it, I can't take it..." or "I'm waiting for Single Player!"

I've been a griefer in the past (in SWG, for the curious) many years ago. I've grown up somewhat now, but I can tell you that the griefer's greatest strength is that they realise it's just a game, and just a Beta at that. They see no point in attempting to progress seriously, because in all probability they'll lose it all in a wipe, so instead they amuse themselves at the expense of others.

Because why not? It's not as though they're actually going to suffer any consequences yet. There's no reason for them to play the game as intended (in their minds) so they might as well get some ganking experience and watch people's frustration on the forums.

As everyone else advises, make a note of their name, and addignore them as soon as that's practical. While I've stated that 'This is a beta and it doesn't matter', that doesn't mean I think these chuckleheads should get a free pass on their dumb behaviour. Every griefer I encounter is going to be calmly added to the future block list. And that includes so-called "pirates" who are taking advantage of the lack of law enforcement systems to blockade space stations. Aggression without the potential for repercussion is bullying, and bullying in an online game falls under the heading of griefing.

And when the game starts, if someone is on my block list and wants desperately to group with me (because fate can be funny that way), they're gonna have to apologise publicly, here on the forum. Because I'm not completely over my need to grief people. :D

TL;DR Version: Spend the Beta time learning how to fly, and don't cry about griefers on the forums because they love that, and you're just giving them the warm feelings they should be getting from girls. :p
