For the sake of their sanity Fdev please. Throw Explorers a bone with this update.

If I were a full time exploration player I would be absolutely losing my mind right now. An entire year goes by and you guys get diddle and squat. It doesn't matter what the focus of the update it. In this case multi crew. Each update should bring a little something for everyone. A new ship is great for everyone. You can fly it yourself or just murder anyone else doing so. You can't really go wrong adding a new ship. They were hyping up unshown features on the stream so it either means they are going to blow our minds with Comets or something. Or whatever they had up their sleeve simply wasn't impressive enough to show on stream. I hope I am horribly wrong but it seems more likely to be the latter. Exploration is already a major disappointment it doesn't need any more neglect. I took a trip out to Sag A while back and was so underwhelmed by it all I killed myself right there on the spot. Cursing all the time I wasted. For me the exploration aspect wore itself thin so fast that despite my best attitude going into this jump fest I came away with pure distaste for it all (albeit with some sick screenshots). I genuinely don't understand how you explorers tolerate such a boring galaxy. In between Jumps all I would think about is "Gee a Comet or two would really liven this experience up." Maybe even make it tolerable. Nope just same looking star to same looking star rinse and repeat until you hit a nebula then putz around in the SRV until you decide to get moving again.

One long range trip was enough to drive me mad. I know you super explorers are a special breed of crazy. But it must be wearing thin by now even for you lunatics.

Did the Eagle Nebula and back and it sank in: Exploration isn't really doing anything. Honk. Point. Listen to beeps while waiting.

Wait to jump. Wait to scoop. Wait to scan. Wait to jump. This game feels like 90℅ waiting, 10% playing, outside of combat.

I want so badly to see this change, but I fear engine limitations are an issue.

And then they come along and bring "multi-crew"... and I was like: yeah, finally, a crew!
Now maybe we can take turns steering the ship during boring and literally week-long watch-the-loading-screen "sessions". Or deploy two SRVs to speed up the tedious RNG-hunts for jump drive injection materials and stuff? Or do missions together as a... well... "crew". Wouldn't that be great? Yes?

NO! PHEW-PHEW only. And what a hood that phew-phew is in the first place... exactly two scenarios (one with spinning asteroids aka Res, one without aka conflict zone) where endless npc drones appear out of no-where and conveniently line up to be shot again and again and again... truly quality phew-phew at its finest.
Well, at least you can now look good doing it. And watch yourself and your mates from different angles. That's something, right? I guess? Bah.

Initially when watching the live stream I was really hyped about all those new features... but the more time I had to think about it the more it's like: Huh? That's it? That's hardly worth anything... again.
All new and shiny delivered in a proof-of-concept-only state with big promises to expand on "some later time"... we are still waiting on improvements for "new-and-shiny" from last year... and the year before...

Pretty much this.

Play your way.

As long as your way is pointless combat against endlessly spawning drones for no apparent reason at all.

Maybe they can sell us an alternative Honk sounds on the store. Is that "boney" enough for you lol? Seriously though, I would rather have some flesh with the bone, and a side of salad...

The thing is you guys ask for stuff for exploration but don't suggest anything, even if they added comets etc it would get stale etc.

Really? Go read the numerous threads detailing exactly what tools Exploration needs.

Not to mention...We aren't devs . It's not our job to make the game fun and exciting. That's fdevs job.

Maybe try waiting until at least beta before saying there's nothing new?

Not long now. :D

*Doesn't have beta*

Damn...

I did say I hope I was horribly wrong about there being nothing else new that is significant.

I just feel pretty safe saying its not going to be Comets. They would be gushing and gawwing about them. And I genuinely can't really think of another thing that would appeal to explorers and players of all types. Going down the checklist of what is in the galaxy the only major thing we seem to be missing is Comets.

Scoopable Gas Giants?

Since the last bone (planetary landings), explorers have been given the royal shaft at every turn.
Even landing on planets outside the bubble is dull. There's just no content, when there could be so much.
I'm currently hopping between neutron stars but, once I've done enough of that, I don't know where to go next or what to do.
I might just go back to Colonia to cash in all my ELWs. Woooo!!!

Come on FD, give us something to look forward to. Engage us in specifying what explorers want and need to keep playing.
Work with us and we'll work with you.

No plans, at some point in the future, not at this moment, maybe, No garantee, No ETA..

Pick one and forget it. This is FD and ED.

Or talent limitations.

Bingo!

This forum is littered profusely with suggestions about exploration in fairness. Enough on that.

Exploration in ED as a gameplay feature is very sparse for content. It's not so much to do with the size of the area (which is well....galaxy sized) but rather to do with the mechanics behind it. I love exploration in my games but can't bring myself further than 1000 ly in this game. It needs some of that often mentioned word...depth. There really many games out there in many genres for FD to draw inspiration from not to mention the suggestions here since the game was first announced.

Actually there are whole threads of suggestions but at the moment I would just want something to narrow down eyeballing a whole planet to part of it as over 300 days of game time eyeballing yoghurt to do the whole thing seems a little unreasonable and unrewarding

I've seen a lot of good suggestions to expand explorers´ options. Mainly scanning utilities for planets, minerals, POIs, etc. I think they were great and hopefully FD is listening and we'll get stuff like that in the (distant) future.

Besides that I had an idea the other day... They should put up some enviromental hazards for explorers. I've been exploring ruins for the last week and its just to peaceful and harmless out there. Unless you are a big crazy cowboy (like a friend of mine) and manage to crash yourself in a high G planet or dive into a sun while scooping, there's very little things to challenge you. Stuff like meteor showers, solar winds/flares... Make it something pretty rare but that can surprise you and damage your ship. You may need to land for repairs (perhaps expand SRV utility or in the future allow for EVA repairs) etc. Just a thought I had....
