Well, the people have spoken.

Hope FD take note :D

We are all behind this game 1000%

I myself am planning to get a half dozen friends into this when its gone gamma. And they are all drooling on the prospects of a massive galaxy with landable planets down the road

Undoubtedly, this part of the game, would bring a large number of new players who would see Ed as a game, much more complete

Planetary Raiders / Raider Wars (circa 1997) was primarily space combat, but allowed you to go into atmospheres to mix it up, which was neat. It solved some of the issues with Newtonian flight that FFE had, for a start :) getting a bogie to misjudged an aerobrake and skip down into atmos (splat) was a huge buzz...

"Accessing richly detailed planetary surfaces" is my dream expansion, but i'd be the happiest commander with just the "Landing/ driving / prospecting on airless rocky planets, moons & asteroids" one. I hope it'll we the first to release.

Shouldn't ''Landing/ driving / prospecting on airless rocky planets, moons & asteroids'' and ''Accessing richly detailed planetary surfaces'' be all part of the same thing?

I always took David's talk about seamless landing on planet surfaces to include those without atmospheres (as it was in Frontier and FFE). So yeah, both those are my 'must have' expansion as they then take ED to the same level of detail and content of the previous couple of Elite games.

The airless is the first step towards those with atmosphere and more complex nature/cities/etc. It will be a gradual process. Exactly how only FD knows, I suppose. :)

They recently said that they will bring exploration on atmosphereless bodies first as there's no fauna or flora to manage, just topology

The Burning Crusade

I loved the 5 man dungeons, also the raid were hard so all the expansion time i had raids to go to, they didin't run out really fast. it was awesome back then. Still like the game, hope WoD is as good.

ps. Isin't it a bit pointless to talk about expansions now? even the main game isin't even fleshed out yet :(

much truth you speak!

even more pointless if "depending on success"

but a bit of fantasy doesn't hurt.
I want a unicorn that //\\produces//\\rainbows

Richly-detailed planetary surfaces...

Although I want to see all except the executive ship stuff... And shipboard combat. That probably isn't necessary.

It's hard to say, I think my biggest priority at the moment would be walking around stations, visiting traders, bars, etc.

Ultimately, FPS combat, planetary surfaces etc. are of course more exciting, but for the moment I just want to walk around and OUT of my ship in stations

My thoughts as well, be good to get out at stations although i also like the idea of mining on planets too.

Seriously, no aliens as poll option? By far the most intriguing one.

Leave FPS and walking around to games that do and will continue to do it better, and concentrate on what makes Elite, Elite.

Agreed. I've already seen the failure of "walking around" and infantry combat in a space game with EvE online: Incarna and also, Dust 514. Oh god, siphoning your resources into too many buildings means their structural strength will be weak.

My favorite expansion?

1.
Landing on planets. I am not even talking about landing on planets with EVA, but just being able to enter the atmosphere of a planet, land at a spaceport and sell your goods, repair your ship etc.

2.
Walking around in my ship and spacewalking. I want to experience standing on the hull of my ship and staring at a huge star or a beautiful planet (remember that 2 towers level in the Unreal Tournament games?).
But walking around in your ship would only make sense if you can do stuff inside the ship. Same goes for space walking. We should be able to do field repairs for example.

u serious?
thought aliens are already there, did the original game not have aliens? come on space game without aliens, u kidding right?

There have been no aliens promised at launch, and parts of space are being planned to be cordoned off for that. Thus expansion is needed. And it's missing from the list.

And there was only one race IIRC, we could ask for more.

I think the thargoids will be part of the original ED release. So they won't come at extra charge. It must be one of those incremental things, they won't be totally fleshed out by gamma release, but expected to be one of those free of charge injected player events to keep the universe running in an interesting manner. And it wouldn't make sense to cordon off parts of the galaxy to one side of the ED community and then charge an expansion just to see one mothership and a few fighters flying around in deep space.

As far as i read, the aliens coming in future mini updates and builds will be an ongoing thing. What I do hope to see by the way is new ships. But if they don't make a specific expansion for that. I don't mind it being free and something we see gradually. Like 2-3 ships per year. I can see that working too.:D

For now, if we look at the result of the addition of option 1 with option 4, I believe that Frontier should put all its resources in these extensions, and forget all the others for the immediate future

:D

Yeah for me I voted for the planets but I am not that interested in walking around on them or hunting etc. I just want to be able to land at spaceports and have a lot going on in the vicinity to those - and being able to walk around those would also be very neat. Similar to a mix of Frontier meets Privateer really.

But I am NOT interested in practically any of the first person combat at all. I mean sure I might enjoy it if it ever came about and surely Braben will do it well but in terms of priority I would say my priorities are:

80% spaceport landing + traffic + goings on at space ports like ordering refuelling vehicles, customs checks, obtaining passengers etc
10% walking around our own ships, important parts of the space ports & starports [also possibly meeting other players/bars/meeting clients]
6% deadly 'alien' designs/missions etc
3% on planet exploration mining etc
1% all the rest of the first person combat, massive ships, boarding combat, hunting, etc.

I dont want to see Braben wasting his resouces on all these other things like first person combat, boarding, massive ships etc. I think the priority has to be a much updated version of Frontier first and foremost.

I don't think anyone is actually asking for much else are we???
