News Trappist-1 Discovery's Impact on Elite Dangerous

Awesome, of course the real takeaway here is "life" .... It would be very different lighting on these worlds much dimmer but just as warm for the planets close in some with a 1 day orbit around the sun, many would be tidally locked.

With poor photosynthesis as well.

I can't check the Galaxy map. Is this legit or photoshopped?

What do you think?

It was mentioned before that it will be in-game with 2.3's release.

Very impressive forecast of the forge

.
Would be nice to have a unique item in it; a trapist beer to buy ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trappist_beer ) and that it becomes a tourrist mission destination.

Congrats on the prediction!

It's too bad that you only simulated the one galaxy, otherwise you might have been able to predict what the Great Attractor is.

Maybe a special line that says "Initially Discovered by NASA" or whatever agency? And then the normal 'discovered by CMDR Name'? :p
It'd be cool if the descriptive text had a bunch of information like that, maybe even the capability to launch a browser pointing to some more information? I'm not that fussy over the "first discovery" line inside the bubble.

Yeah i imagine the landscape seeming to move as you approach, like waves, taking your first crunching step you realize it's a cockroach like carpet :)

From a relative new player to E:D and as someone who always had a mild fascination with stars and space, might I just say that this is damned cool.

I think I'm headed for a sightseeing visit as soon as it's available. I read earlier about a special tourist trinket or commodity exclusive to the system; I agree!

Well done FD... well done, indeed.

Trappists.

Trappist-1 however is called not after these monks, but after the fact that it was initially discovered by TRAPPIST, the TRAnsiting Planets and PlanetesImals Small Telescope.

Because of this we have tweaked Stellar Forge with the data from the recent discoveries so that the planets are now the same – and we have renamed it Trappist 1 – but the great thing is it is only a small tweak! We may still add a few moons back in, and this should go live in beta 2, and will of course be in 2.3 when it goes live to everyone.

Awesome! [up][up]

Sorry to go a bit off-topic, but any chance we can get a 4K or 8K image / wallpaper of the image in the top post ? Does one exist ?

How about a rare item, a Trappist beer: Chimay Bleue, Sint Barnardus, Westmalle, ... . I've gone to my happy place now.

There could be a community goal built around it. A bit like the one for the Hutton Mug. You would have to bring some grain (hop, wheat?) to the station and the tier reached determines how much beer you can buy.

'But the great thing is it is only a small tweak!'

But a big tweak, like making it into a new major historical system with stations and factions and tourist beacons and history, would have been a much greater thing.

Frontier, please call one of the....

Frontier, please call one of the planets or stations 'Monks'. Or at least have description saying one of the planets is inhabited solely by monks.

What the deuce!? The Stellar Forge truly is astounding. First it predicts a planet around Proxima Centauri, now it predicts an entire star system?

*brain explodes*

I'm hearing mentions of ED:en being an Earth like but why are we so fixated on 'life' out there needing the same 'goldilocks' conditions as us? Oxygen is highly corrosive, and explosive in the right concentrations and probably kills some life forms.

Seems a bit condescending to think humans are the only DNA configuration possible.
