Will Beta 2.3 work with VR

When i installed CV1 i had to download ED again

so... if i use the default Launcher to download the 2.3 Beta, will the Occulus Rift pick it up?

If not how have others got Beta access using VR ?

Am very intrigued..

When Beta drops you'll have to install it regardless, on the launcher select Beta and then 'Update' before you can play it. Surely it will work with VR too :)

Oculus runtime will pick it up even when you use the default launcher, although you might need to manually set the 3D option to 'HMD'.

Curious but does anyone know why now (I can't say what version brought the change) that launching Elite from Steam (not choosing SteamVR) that it launches Elite and Oculus Home, but you have to set 3D to HMD from the graphics options each time now? Is there any way to fix that to stick?

Why bother with steam if you have a rift?

Elite uses the frontier login, so just download the fd launcher outside of steam and play.
Has been working without issue, well mostly, so far.

Yeah, why bother with that rubbish bloatware?
For starters, Steam updates about 4-5 times faster as the native client does.

I'm always playing my Steam account before the other accounts are 1/10th of the way updated.

Second, the Steam client works on Linux as well. Was setting up VR on Ubuntu last night as a matter of fact.

This. Steam being called bloatware and rubbish in year 2017 is ironicly humorous, but that is another discussion altogether.

Like said above, sometimes with my slow internet, it is nice to have all my games up to date so when I want to play something, it is ready to go instead of having to wait and loose interest or that time window, and Steam Auto Updates are extremely fast and efficient vs a dedicated launcher for a specific game that has to update once you launch and has no auto update function.

Second, people like the Steam social features, invite friends, track playtime, etc. It's not major to me personally, but it can be to some.

Why does this option keep getting ticked off automatically anyway and why/when was this implemented? I just don't see the reason for why this was changed in the first place.

Well if steams faster for you, great.

It's on par with the launcher for me, 95% of the beta's data come from the main install first so most of the update time is disk throttled.
As for actual download speeds either top out for me at about 250mbs.

As for the social aspects, well Elite doesn't use any of them, and the overlay with the world's most terrible browser, no thank you.
And the overlay doesn't really work with VR anyways.

Why did you have to re-download ED again. I got a CV1 and haven't had to re-download the game.
You can use the default launcher with the rift.

I start from the Frontier launcher and get stuck in a black screen with "Loading game" just before the orange ship should appear.
The hangar works fine in VR though..

EDIT, problem solved by reinstalling.

The only Holo Me thingy I see is when I go to the Galaxy map, then I have a head for half a second...
For the rest it is getting used to the menus.

The camera does nothing yet but I think that's up to some control settings.

Vr Gaming Evloved has a whole YouTube video on the 2.3 beta and VR.

Try launching from the Frontier launcher. VR working fine, launching from the FD launcher. Never bothered putting ED on Steam.

I just got it working. Instead of launching the game from steam I just launched "\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\EDLaunch.exe" directly, then everything works :)

Hmm not working for me with my Oculus. In the same Launcher if I pick Horizons I have the option to select HMD. But if I play Horizons beta 2,3 through the Same launcher there are no HMD options under the 3d settings
