Explorers rejoice

Got to say, I wasn't expecting all this when I posted that. I just thought this would be helpful for explorers.

Helpful? Sure, at least we are getting a few engineer blueprints, and that's a good thing. It's just not what exploration needs after two+ years. Exploration needs new and improved mechanics, it needs something more to do than just jump and honk. We need tools to use other than our eyeballs. But, at least now we will be able to scan faster and spend less time watching that spinning wheel. We'd all love to actually do something other than watch a spinning wheel though.

So, yay? Looking forward to grinding combat rank to gain access to these QoL improvements for exploration.

I think the real rejoicing should be saved for the camera system and multi-crew.... half the fun of exploring is capturing great video and screenshots of your finds. Now multi-crew means you can have a dedicated documentary crew along for the ride.

Since multi-crew is clearly piggy-backing off the wing system, I'm dying to know if wing exploration (where all members of a wing share credits and naming credit from finds) works for mutli-crew too.
Can a whole crew get naming rights?
Can a turret-role co-pilot scan planet A while I scan planet B?
If both those work, it could change exploration totally.

From the patch notes:

"Lori Jameson:
Sensor/scanner to grade 5, and DSS to grade 5

Tiana Fortune:
DSS to grade 5, and sensor/scanner – 5"

The new blueprints are available at grade 5 from both Lori Jameson and Tina Fortune. And Tina Fortune's engineer unlock chain is probably the easiest of the bunch.

Maybe next time y'all should do some fact checking before spending all day making one of the most pessimistic threads I've seen on the forums.

Or a game in the Elite series, where combat rank is the center of the game. Where not a single person in the lore was 'elite in exploration', which wasnt even a thing at all, and all cmdrs of renown where elite in combat. Which is why in this game your combat rank is shown to others, and not the rank of your choice.

Its not trolling explorers. You're playing a game where combat is very much at the heart of the game.
So you're saying explorers do have a point when they claim there's little content for them in comparison to combat.

Well, I'm glad there's common ground then after all :)

Now, now my fellow explorer's, lets form an orderly queue for these 'upgrades'... oh, seems like there is not a queue. Sounds to me these are for the Sunday drivers who pop out of the bubble for a little look at the wildlife before returning home for an evening in front of the TV.

I see your point but it's somewhat uncalled for, because, Sunday driver or true explorer, lightweight mods and faster/long range scanning are still useful to both, even if it's not for the same reasons.

They were only removed temporarily until they added in a commodity storage function. Like the shield boost changes, the commodities coming back are inevitable.

Shame, of all the parts of the game that need attention, that could have been left on the backburner for a year or two. Or, forever...

Perhaps, instead, we could have had the stats of planets we are scanning appear in our info tabs, which would probably save me even more time than any sensor upgrades, as popping in and out of the system map view, and then navigating tot he planet in question and then selecting the right info panel takes... A g annoyingly long time.

Z...

"Explorers who can be bothered with the nonsense that is Engineers, be slightly less unhappy" :)

So its onward with the old skool scanner fer me...shame that but working with engineers means spending more time not exploring, time I only partially make back with this new scanner.

So ye gotta spend lots of time to make a fraction back? Hardly the best management of time...but FD will do as FD does...maybe its another placeholder? Or just a wind up...just spitballing now really ^

Feels like I should be grateful fer even the tiniest scraps that fall from the pew pew table...bit like most the rest of 2.3...hardly worth peeing my pants over and in the grand scheme of things, becomes lost in the irrelevance that are the engineers. Stuck behind a rank grind wall...that was clever...not ^

Time will tell...

So basically it's just "tweaks" to existing in game mechanics but no actual "content" oh boy let me start rejoicing.

Personally, I really like the Engineers and the modifications they make. I do love exploring, but it's not the only thing I like to do in the game - I like to try a bit of everything.

Therefore, once I'm done exploring the Formidine Rift area for now, I'll head back to the Bubble (probably after 2.3 drops), sell my exploration data (being careful until then because I have a tendency of exploding in the Rift area), have fun gathering the materials (I don't tend to grind or farm mats, and I enjoy the new places and experiences searching for materials gives me), make my upgrades and probably head out somewhere else... might even try my hand at the Ancient Ruins puzzle next and see how far I can get.

I have found that if you don't drive yourself crazy trying to get the absolute best of everything as soon as possible, everything becomes a lot more enjoyable. I haven't unlocked Selene yet, or indeed, very many other Engineers. Every so often I'll fancy doing a bit of mining, and I know one day I'll get to the 500T unlock requirement and be able to work towards strengthening some armour, but I'm in no rush for it.

So yes, I am happy with the extra Engineer mods for the scanners and sensors. They make sense, and they're going to be helpful, and I'll probably prioritise them, but I'm not really in any rush to get them. Gotta unlock Tiana first! I sure as hell ain't Elite yet, so Lori Jameson is out of the question.

Just the problem that the new stuff, and in particular scanner mods, is in the one place explorers tend to stay away from :D
