Python or Fer De Lance?

I'm just wondering what you guys like better out of the Python and Fer De Lance. Which is better ship in your opinion?

Which is better for PvE and which is better for PvP? I currently have a Python and was looking at the FDL because of its huge hard point.

Python is the better PvE ship. Good jump range, good internals, solid DPS, etc.

However it's complete trash for pvp, which is what the fdl excells at. Fdl has way better shields, it's faster, really maneuverable, insanely good DPS.

PvE go python
PVP go fdl

Thanks! I guess I might want both.

Greetings,

Both will do well but each has a learning curves to master them. Try the FDL to see the difference in PvE. As for PvP it will be a whole new ballgame when 2.3 is released. One figures how to dial in their ship with their skills then Frontier changes the game trying to please everyone favored more for for PvP.

I have a combat Python with Rail Guns (I'm great using them) and Multi-Cannons which works great for first attack but not so much when being attacked and trying to target the enemy with more maneuverable ships. I also have the FDL which resolves these issues with speed/maneuverability and has the 4A slot if you can effectively use the weapon installed but has less hull strength and requires more shield tanking to be effective. You are going to lose part of that in 2.3. Welcome to the always changing game of Elite Dangerous!

Regards

The FDL is cheaper to equip and the ship will carry all but the worst pilots safely through combat. The Python takes more credits to outfit, benefits more from engineering and takes a little more skill at the stick but it can excel at everything including PVP.

1. Do you want to do combat or something else? If something else, Python. If combat go to #2.
2. Do you want to do PvP or PvE. If PvP. FDL, if PvE see #3. (although once 2.3 drops this won't be as clear cut)
3. If you were going to war, would you rather be driving a tank or piloting an F15? If Tank: Python, if F15, FDL

As said, FDL for PvP.

For everything else, Python.

Every commander should aspire to have a Python in their fleet. It's the #1 best swiss army knife ship in the game, hands down.

I have an A Spec and I'd never, ever let her go. She's old faithful. She's trustworthy. She's adaptable, flexible and just the 'go to' ship every pilot needs.

Get a FDL.

j/k

Get the Python. You'll thank us later.

Hands down the FDL is the better combat ship, for both pve and pvp. However, its limited jump range and poor cargo carrying potential pretty much exclude it from other career paths. If you only want a ship to fight pick the FDL, if you want to mix it up, keep the Python as its still half decent in a fight. You can always get an FDL later when credits allow.

Personally, despite owning a Corvette and Anaconda I still keep an FDL around, it really is that much fun for combat, especially if like me you fly FA off, it is also considerably cheaper to replace than the bigger ships.

I can personally recommend the FDL for PvP and even PvE combat. However the python is a much more versatile ship when it comes to anything but combat, You sacrifice some combat and firepower for more internals i used my python extensively as a trading ship and stepping stone to my anaconda. Its a great armored trader and mission runner and holds up in a fight but if you are trying to take on dedicated combat vessels you should look more closely at an FDL or even a federal assault ship although i have not extensively used one i here they can go toe to toe with a FDL for a fraction of the price.

Hello there,

I disagree a little bit, since the the Python DOES have more firepower.
However the only thing that counts here is the maneuverability which is on the FDL far better then on the Python.

The Python is the best Non-Rank-MidSize Allrounder and the FDL is the best Non-Rank-MidSize Combatant

However the only thing that counts here is the maneuverability which is on the FDL far better then on the Python.

Not only that, the FDL has 6 utility slots giving it extra options for shield tanking/countermeasures, only 4 for the Python.

HOWEVER this looks like it will get balanced out a bit in 2.3 when Frontier push through the much-needed shield booster stacking nerf
