Dreary! Dreary? What can you possibly mean while working on Elite Dangerous??!!?

Heretic! ..... no, Good Job! .... no Heretic! .... now I'm confused :)

Hi there,

Working on Elite is great...

Waking up an hour early to go to a doctors appointment before work in the cold and wet is not...

Thanks,
Dom

Yeah I've noticed him beavering away recently.

Great work, keep it up. :D

Agree 100%
His communication regarding the mission system has been wonderful.
I know a lot of times the devs are hog-tied, and can't say anything. But the little tidbits and insights he's shared have gone a long way.

Thank you Dom!

"the missions guy"...makes him sound like a secret agent :)

EDIT: damn, how can I get a job where I'm called "THE MISSIONS GUY!"? My life seems so dull now.

Hi there,

The way I did it was:

1. Apply to Frontier as a programmer.
2. Get hired to work on Zoo Tycoon, where I was tasked with writing the challenges system (The thing that drove the campaign scenarios and also gave procedurally generated challenges in challenge mode).
3. Work on ScreamRide where I maintained and expanded the challenges system from Zoo Tycoon to drive the campaign and user generated levels.
4. Move on to Elite and work with the original Missions Guy on Missions2.0 for update 1.3.
5. Take over from him when he moved on.

Thanks,
Dom

Yup, thanks for all the communication Dominic. It really helps us both be more able to understand the game to play it and to better judge when something is a bug, and thus write more appropriate and better bug reports.

Bravo :).

Hi Dom,
I've asked about this in the live-feed before, but I don't suppose you have any more information about the lost "Elite or Founder" missions that didn't make the 2.0 cut? Are they likely to return at any point?
A number of them seemed to be linked to the Dark Wheel's search for Raxxla (and were perhaps only meant to appear at Jameson's Memorial) or perhaps "The missing" and there was a fun variant on "Hunt x pirates".
Some of them perhaps hinted at the mystery of the Unknown Artifacts (Songs of the Spheres)

There was a whole thread at one point investigating the Raxxla angle, which came to a rather abrupt end...

It'd be really appreciated if we could get an answer on this one way or another.

Cheers!

.. hmmm "moved on" .. with help from the top floor of a building ? concrete shoes ? clandestine meeting at an airport ? ;)

Ah programming.. I use to do some back in the wayback, in 8086 Assembly no less.
No more complex and tedious method has ever existed to perform the same task on any machine using the same architecture, regardless of operating system.

Then one day, I realized I couldn't stand doing it any more, and haven't looked back lol

Certainly looking forward to seeing some of the new mission work - but I'm going to have to wait for the release, as I don't Paida test.

Is there an assassination attempt in between points 4 and 5? When you say he "moved on" is that in the afterlife sense ... :p :D

Hi there,

No, but when I got into the carpark I did get a message saying I'd get a bonus if I signed into the building within 2 minutes.

Thanks,
Dom

Well, thank Braben for that!

Just so you know, you can linger about the worksite as long as you want but if karma has it that you are to be yanked elsewhere enroute annnnnd just as you reach home and to avoid losing some rep at home and work..you shall be going---wherever!
So maybe grab a fresh brew as you leave, just in case ;)
