Powerplay Faction: Felicia Winters I'm heading in to Power Play, and planning on joining Felicia Winters!

OK, I'm in. In common with many PP newbies, I have no idea what I'm doing.
Actually, that's only half right. I have a vague idea of what I'm doing, and I plan to pledge for Felicia and do what I can - hopefully learning a bit more as I go along!

Why Felicia? Well, I'm Fed through and through. I want to gain more rank (Fed ships are so much sexier than the Airbus Slavers), and I want the Fed to prosper under the Shadow President's liberal guidance. I'm not really interested in grinding to get a fancy gun, so I have chosen a faction that matched my in-game RP goals.

I've read all manner of guides, so that's given me the basics. However, there are caveats: I loathe Reddit, don't want to use Discord and play exclusively in Solo: Hopefully, none of those 'issues' will get in the way too much ;)

My question: I've signed up for the https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteWinters/ Subreddit.

Is it simply a matter of checking that each cycle to see what current the plan is, then doing PP missions to support that on Solo?

EG: This week, it's apparently all about consolidating/fortifying three systems - so presumably I can check in-game to see what missions are available under the PP tab... is it that simple?

The Subreddit suggests that this will involve hauling, which I'm happy to do, but it gives no indication as to what - presumably, this will be specified in any PP missions I find, right?

If the task for a given cycle is to undermine the rivals, then presumably that will be on the Subreddit as a "cycle priority" as well?

Thanks in advance. Sorry to dredge up the basics, but I have limited in-game-time and if I can hit the ground running I'll be glad to join in. I might be able to pop on for an hour tonight and answer some of my own questions - but any pre-game help gratefully received!

The reddit instructions are only updated every few days, so they can be somewhat out of date. Also, you're missing out on a lot of game knowledge and galaxy updates that can help you be more effective AND enjoy yourself more.

The right place to be is Discord. You don't have to use the app, just use the web browser version (it's all I use). And you don't have to participate that much if you don't want - we have separate channels for chatty folks, people who want to taunt Imperials, people who post endless cat memes, and folks who just want operations target updates and good trade opportunities. And if even that is too much, read the guides we have. At least come try it out. The link is on the right side of the Winters Reddit page.

Thanks Tom... I really didn't want another method of communication cluttering up my life but if that's where everyone in PP lives...

I'll try and get round to uploading the "proof" screenies and give it a go over the next few days.

I hear that Merits disappear over time, which seems a bit of a chore for those of us who only get on a couple of times each week. Is that right?

Merits are halfed every cycle and merits older than four weeks are completely discarded. So to sustain a certain rank you usually have to do a bit more than half of that rank's merit threshold every week (if you do the same amounts per week), i.e 800 to sustain rank 4 or 5334 to sustain rank 5.

Look at this thread for a more detailed explanation.

It looks like Undermining is going to be a good way to maintain merits for the irregular player.

Is there a simple list for Winters supporters that tells me who "our" top enemies are?

I think I've narrowed it down to:
  • Aisling Duval
  • Arissa Lavigny-Duval
  • Denton Patreus
  • Yuri Grom

So I shoot anyone who's pledged to them, and get 30 Merits per kill; then I take them back to a Winters controlled system and hand them in: Is that right?

Do I need to "sign up" for this before I begin, or are the "kills" automatically added to the Powerplay status screen?

I saw this on the Reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteWinters/comments/5vpn90/cycle_91_targets/

So, bascially, if I go to Cofalyawa or Gwaelod and shoot anyone pledged to the above list of Powers, I'll be helping? Is it that simple?

Thanks for all your help negotiating this most confusing path in E;D!

I'd say Winters top enemies are those powers that start expansions into Winter's teritorry.

Namely this is A. Lavigniy Duval who did win the expansion in Cofalyawa and so is reducing Winters CC income. This is becouse of "contested systems". Systems that are shared in the 15ly radius bubble won't generate income.

Best target high-profit systems from enemy powers - that is systems with high CC income, becouse if those systems become fully undermined the income turns into a negative.

Also it's good to help in systems that already have some undermining to get to 100% becouse only then the undermining will take effect. You see this in the power-map if you tick the control-box.

If you manage to find a wing you will have best results.

Good hunting - and beware of the bountyhunters!

Well, there you go - that's why Powerplay is really frustrating: There is no "Cycle 92 targets" that I can find.

I'm trying, I really am, but this is ridiculous!

Well, it's player driven so the powerplay groups keep theire priority targets to themsleves mostly for tactical reasons. If you want to join a power-play-group look in the guids section for the reddit-links. Most groups also use discord. You will find a link to theire discord on all of the reddit sites. Discord is a littel chat and voice program useable with any internet browser.

You can also try to find your targets by yourself by looking at the power-map.

Also I try to give some idea of whats going on in my news-thread here.

edit: seen, you are already there. over and out.

Your assistance appreciated once more, Federation CMDRs! This week, I have mainly been undermining (and, looking at the stats, making an actual difference).

As a result I have a MAHOOSIVE bounty in one particular system, for destroying dozens of Imperial Supply vessels.

It's been very exciting, interdicting and avoiding interdiction, dodging the law (they're Fed, too!) and basically running under what C18th mariners would call a "Letter of Marque".

Two questions I have, which I am hoping someone can clear up for me:

1. How do I get rid of the massive bounty when I'm "finished"? I've checked out some friendly Interstellar Factors, but there's no option to pay up there... at least not yet. Do I have to wait for the Bounty to turn into a Fine? When you're knocking on the door of CR1m bounty, how long does that take? OR, alternatively, will I have to find a slightly dodgy I.F. contact in the system I am WANTED in, and pay it off there?

2. Can I target ANY A-L-D aligned vessels? The Imperial Supply ships are the ones specified in the Undermining instructions, so I've just stuck with destroying them (and them alone). However, there are always loads of "Shield of Justice" (sp?) ships providing some sort of private security. They are shown in the scan box as belonging to Arissa Lavigny-Duval (the enemy!) - if I start shooting them up as well, will they count towards my Merit vouchers?

Thanks again, team.

When you are finished you could suicide-winder in the system where you have a bounty.

So, fly your main ship to the closest system nearby and park up in a station with a shipyard. All shipyards sell sidewinders, they are only a few thousand credits. Jump over to system where you are wanted and police-suicide yourself. The bounty should be gone then. you will respawn after taking the ultra-low hit of the sidewinder rebuy in the station of the system where you were wanted. Jump out and back to where you left your main ship, sell the sidey.

suicide-winder

I was trying to avoid this sort of thing, being a good and honest kinda guy... but if it works, it'll save me a few grand! ;)

In theory, I could Suicidewinder from my 'home' station where all my ships are parked and save myself the journey, too, right?

Thanks!

Well, team, it's been going well. I've got about 2,400 Merits in the bank thanks to hours of Undermining ALD's problem systems and I'm looking forward to my first CR5m paycheque on Thursday! Not only am I doing good work for our 34th-century sexy silver Servalan, but I'm getting paid as well. Nice.

I still have questions, mind you.

Can I shoot the Shields of Justice?
I still don't really know if I can shoot other ALD-aligned ships. The Undermining guide on http://jera.ddns.net/felicia-winters/ suggests (but doesn't make it absolutely clear) that I can. I see loads of ALD-supporting "Shield of Justice" Eagles which would make lovely soft targets, and it would be good to know if shooting them helps Undermining specifically, and my Merit balance in general.

I haven't tested it out: I don't want to make my >CR1m+ bounty any worse with another sub-faction if I don't need to, but if they count towards our goals I'll smoke 'em like I would an Imperial Supply T-6 (in seconds, usually before the FSD safety timer has expired).

How's my Ranking?
I joined a Fed faction, because I'm Fed born & bred... but also because I have heard (through various sites, including the Wiki), that Felicia Winters is THE Faction for improving your Federation Naval Rank - and one day I'd love a Corvette to call my own. However, I can't see any explanation of HOW this works or what I'm supposed to be doing to "Rank up" in the Navy with Felicia.

Hope you can help! I'm actually quite enjoying getting involved and taking a break from my normally peaceful civilian play-style, and I'd like to do more!

Can I shoot the Shields of Justice?

It depends on where you're undermining. You will only get merits for killing ships belonging to the power that controls the control systems. So, if you're in Torval space and shoot a Shield of Justice (ALD ship), you'll be like a greedy kid in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.

I managed to get on for a couple of hours last night and test this theory: For anyone else interested, YES, you can definitely shoot the Shields of Justice in ALD's systems and they do count towards your Merits (I got about 1,000 in that time and was at 3,500 total by close of play so should be Rank 4 with the tick - and a CR1.4m bounty on my head, which brings ALL the bounty-hunting boys to the yard - Suicidewinder imminent!)

I was unable to locate any Shield of Justice ships outside of ALD controlled space as a 'control'.

The SoJ ships often wing up with 3 Eagles, or a couple of Eagles and an Imp Courier or Asp Scout, so it's an easy way to pull in 90 Merits in a couple of minutes, adding significantly to the total when added to Imperial Supply ships.

I still have no clue as to how the Naval rank progression is helped by Felicia, but I hope to find out soon!
