Astronomy / Space Terraforming Mars: Step 1

Maintaining a field of 2T is no small order. It would also have to maintain relative position as Mars orbits the sun. Its an interesting idea. I doubt Mars has or ever had the chemical composition to become human-habitable but it's a good idea to do as much as we can the easiest way possible. It would help support other efforts but you'll need more than an artificial magnetosphere. Mars' gravity can't support 100Kpa.
Send the robots to beam pictures and data back. By the time we get out there we won't need to breathe or eat anymore. We won't need to terraform.

Actually you need to increase it's mass somehow, otherwise it's pretty much pointless to do anything with it. And also, a good idea to get him a moon, since Phobos, and Deimos (fear and fright) way too small to make any use. So after the core is remelted, it can maintain his own magnetosphere, and also? New gas can enter into its atmosphere from the depths of the planet not to mention to keep the waters on the surface. BY tectonic and volcanic activity. Otherwise the ground just drinks it, or be destroyed by chemical reactions.

Without this any terraforming effort will be a short lived success, unless you keep spending an insane amount energy, and resources to maintain it.

A lot cheaper than bring M sized asteroids from the asteroid fields or oort cloud of our solar system for sure, but it does not makes the planet itself habitable. :)
There are lots of places on our own planet that are not habitable; take the poles for example. Man basically lives inside there and the temperatures are mild compared to Mars.
