Faster travel

Ok, so I've done trip to colonia and this was a terrible experience. Not a fan of timers and dodging thousands of stars, it's not fun and it reminds me of working in a factory.

So I have a suggestion for faster travel; Add some sort of fast jumping to far away places like:
-gates
-wormholes
-jumping through black holes (which are useless atm anyway) and coming out of whiteholes
-use those huge ships that are coming into the game as jump platforms

Or just place some sort of jump generator in human bubble and let us exit of of black holes or smth..

fun should be the priority in the game shouldn't it?

I understand some of you are masohists and really like boring tasks that are the same and the feeling of having a second job, but quite some of us don't. There's a reason why every single game with a huge world has some sort of fast travel.

As for explorers... If you jump from Bubble and come out of black hole near colonia, you still have bunch of jumping around and manual flying and exploring of systems left.

It's not like fast travel needs to be in all systems... Just a few widely spread out hubs are needed, so that manual and fast travel are both included.

Then play something else because Elite obviously isn't the game you're looking for.

There's a reason why every single game with a huge world has some sort of fast travel.
And Elite does not. It is not an oversight, it is a deliberate design decision that serves a function.
All you're basically saying is you don't like the combat in Mortal Kombat and could the developers change it.

The answer is no. Go play something that has the experience you're looking for.

Yeah no.
Exploration is already incredible easier than it was before, there is absoloutley NO need to make it easier at the moment.

Einstein said it's ok! Black hole - white hole is a perfectly fine concept and so are the worm holes!

In some other SF universes, maybe. But not in the Elite background story. Same reason why ED doesn't have gigantic armoured exoskeletons walking around, or spaceships like flying saucers with a few sticks attached, or laser swords, or wormholes at the center of each gas giant. Different universe, different story, different mechanics.

It's clearly 'dead horse' day today... so I'll just list:

- Engineered FSD range increases
- Synthesis range boost
- White dwarf/Neutron star boost

They've already added stuff for faster travel.

Then don't go to Colonia / wherever if you don't enjoy the trip. Simples - concentrate on the parts of the game you enjoy and ignore the bits you don't. But don't force your definition of "fun" onto the rest of us.

Simple solution if you don't like travel, don't do it. There is no need to go to colonia for anything at the moment.

I like the travel aspect myself, and like the feel that the galaxy is vast and massive. Get rid of that we might as well get rid of the simulated galaxy if everything is just a hop away.

Yeah no.
Exploration is already incredible easier than it was before, there is absoloutley NO need to make it easier at the moment.

that's a redicolus reason. So you're against it cause that would somehow mess with your pinging of system and standing in front of stars and the only other part of this "exploring" is bunch of jumping around? What about actually analyzing planets for composition, their age, history, discovering stuff and life forms on them, figuring out how to fit ships to land on extremely hot planets with acid rains destroying your ships?

And you have 200 billion stars to explore, 5 jump points want really kill it will it? You can still do millions of jumps manually.

But no, let's kill it straight up, cause 100 people like to suffer and do thousands of pointless jumps and waste hundreds of hours to get to other side of the galaxy so that at the end of the day they can say: "Look at me guys, I was watching loading screen for hundreds of hours and came to here!"

The answer isn't to make it quicker, it's to add more to it.
Jump into an unexplored system and a scan tells you there's something interesting on a planet somewhere. Find random things in space, odd matter, debris fields, strange alien life that infects your ship and requires you to escape from. Just lots of little things that add danger and purpose when you head into the void.
These things are coming, brain trees, crystalline structures, the huge ships could appear in random systems and give you deep space missions to help them or repair them, it's gradually being added to, all we need is better scanners to point you towards these things (even just to hint that they're nearby without actually telling you exactly where).

Oooh, OP, you dun goofed now!

You came to THIS forum, and made an assumption like THAT!?!

Many here believe "immersion/realism/lore consistency/suspension-of-disbelief/self-interest/mental gymnastics/sadomasachistic punishment" is far more important than fun in ED... after all, ED is not a "game", as "games" are for casual 12yo COD-coddled smurfs, and "real men" like these lot play simulators like ED (even though ED isn't a simulator).

I actually agree with you OP that a fast travel option would improve the game.

In 20 years of gaming I haven't experienced something like this. It's a realy special community and posting on this forum or reading for 2.5 years how they shoot down every single suggestion that doesn't come from FD and is about some added value or saving time, gives me the feeling like bunch of people posting here are from N. Korea. I usually post a suggestion every few months, they shot down every single one by now and when I'm reading reasons for it I'm just smacking my head lol. They're acting like the horizons is 10/10 game, while on metacritic it's rated by 4.8.

But yeah, every single thing suggested here that was already implemented in games rated 80 and 90 is shot down the same moment, as this 4.8 rated perfection clearly has no flaws. It might certanly be perfect for 10.000-20.000 people that play it regularly, but 990.000 people that seem to log in only when patch comes out probably disagree.

No, people here are against it because it Completely Defeats the Purpose of a Spaceship FLYING GAME.

And you really need to learn to use the search function before you vomit forth another thrice-dead idea on these kind forum folk in the future.

Now be a good little yapper and go hump someone else's leg for a while....

no, I still got 12.000 ly to do from colonia back to sol and since it's repetitive no fun boring experience with no challenge running in background most of the time, I'll waste that time here. I'm more immersed on forum then by those 5,4,3,2,1 timers.

I WAS LINKED HERE BY SIOBHAN!

Honestly though, i quite liked someone elses idea the other day about a single jump to anywhere that took just as long without the hops inbetween done properly but, not this one, sorry :).
