6Ly in Supercruise! The fight for Survival!

o7 Commanders, little ongoing tale coming to a close in the next few hours.

Here's a little rundown:

  • Miscalculated a Neutron jump, couldn't jump to the nearest system
  • 33Ly, Jumponium for 38Ly. I've been dumping fuel in Supercruise
  • 6.19Ly later, I am approaching the minimum range in order to jump

It's rumoured that one cannot supercruise in range of a star in order to jump. I say, we choose to do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard. I intend to win, and if it comes to the end, it will be on my terms!

Update
there appears to be a minor snag in my fuel-to-weight ratio. It looks like I'll be leaving her on auto-pilot whilst I get some shut-eye.

Despite being in range I cannot yet jump. I calculate that at 38Ly I should - in theory - be able to jump.
I have enough fuel to carry me 4 more Ly before I reach dangerously low levels.

The best I can do is continue for another 4.75Ly to put to rest once-and-for-all whether or not you're able to Supercruise halfway.

Unfortunately that's true. If you can make that original 45ly jump on a less full tank then burning fuel will still let you do it - but it will make no difference whether you SC 10ly closer or further away...

Stupid question here. If one were to leave the game running for the 13 days and somehow have enough fuel could one super cruise from one star system to the next?

Unfortunately, the answer to that is no :(
It's because of the fact that each system is a separate instance. Although you could theoretically cover the distance, nothing would load in once you got there. You'd have to go into hyperspace in the end.

Unfortunately not, stars are registered as 'instances', and the hypercruise acts as a loading screen for the assets. There's footage of people making short SCs to nearby systems and swinging right past them as if there's nothing there.

ninja'd :p

Yes. But the system won't spawn. It will be a empty spot in space.

edit: I'm a very slow typer..

So wait is it confirmed that supercruising closer and then doing the jump will not work?

The distance to jump remains the distance between the two stars on the galmap however much supercruising you do in system. So that won't change.

Is the OP playing a loser battle?

Not necessarily. OP has a full tank and burning the fuel off will reduce mass and extend range. This might be enough to bring the next system into range. Without one of those guns that shoot fuel or a short jump you can do backwards and forwards burning off half or two thirds of a tank takes a loooooong time.

I knew of the limitation, but that feels so utterly stupid. (I realise doing it "properly" raises other potential problems, but still...)

With a heavy heart, I must concede that one cannot beat the mechanics of a game.

After almost 9Lys in supercruise (and one hell of an energy bill) I will be unable to save myself.

Sadly, this shall be my last transmission.

With that said, my grave shall have one Hell of a view.

Before you give up, are there any asteroid belts where you are? If there are, look at this thread, and hope;
