By the way, someone kick me the next time I think about buying a Season Pass of ANYTHING.

I NEVER buy Season Passes- Never. It was a rule I always stood by. Why?

1. You often don`t know what you`re going to get.
2. Even when they say what you`re going to get, you`re not actually sure you will.
3. It`s a lot of money for not being certain what you`ll get.
4 You don`t get the respect that a consumer would have got with any other kind of a product. It`s like, "We got the money, they`re gamers so who cares?"
5. Be wary of anyone that sells the Beta of something you`ve already paid ahead for and won`t let you take part unless you pay.

I broke my rule.

You ONLY bought the season pass ? What about all of us that bought the lifetime pass ?

btw, I'm just being sarcastic. I'm perfectly happy with my purchase. Yes, it's not perfect. Mirrors real life quite nicely.

You forgot to put any sense in your rambling. :) Try again.

You made one exception to the rule, and it confirmed the rule is a good one and worth sticking to.
I think you'll be fine.:)
If you ever get tempted again, i'll gladly provide the requested kick.;)

Blame EA and Valve for season passes and paid dlc....though I have a friend in the games industry who says its hard, competitive and anyone who isnt Blizzard, Rockstar, EA or Valve needs money to keep going and attract better modellers, designers and artists. The way I look at it is its always a gamble any games company can pull a plug or go bust but your life or season pass is your way of supporting them. I went life time because Frontier are a growing UK games company and I believe in their ethos. David Braben and co have done so much for gaming history. A pass is still cheaper than money per month.

When you say "Season Pass", do mean like Horizons? Or even the original Elite Dangerous? Or do you mean a lifetime pass to all updates for a game?

It seems you are suggesting that you should never buy a game ever again.....

I bought Elite Dangerous and the season pass at the same. I have NO buyer remorse what so ever. In fact i just purchased the Beta from the store for about 5 bucks. Most fun 5 bucks I ever spent. I really wanted to test drive an Annie to see if I should work (not grind) towards it and really pleased with it. I am playing with a FGS right now and really like it, although it sounds really noisy. I get to play with Holo Me and all the other stuff before it pops to seasons.

Many years ago I paid almost as much a month for subscription to some MMOs and that I had buyer remorse. This is good, I like the way FD is doing it.

YMMV

ED is one of the few games that actually has a decent fully fledged Season pass, and well worth the money vs content. Although I think it is better described as an expansion than a season pass. Also bucking the trend of the industry, it wasn't released at launch lol!

Generally speaking though, I agree, never pre-buy something. Pre-order, Early Access or even Season pass for a game. Wait for reviews, wait for full release or full details to be provided etc. It just encourages developers and publishers to take advantage.

The alternative to not buying a season pass isn't a subscription model.
The alternative is waiting until the season is complete and then considering a purchase.

True generally, but not in this particular case. That alternative has been eliminated. We're paying for a game that is perpetually being developed. IF we're going to pay, we can pay in spurts (updates purchased as season pass or gold edition) or we can pay spread out (subscription) (commence with the 'spurt' and 'spread out' jokes). Based on the ridiculous amount of hours I've enjoyed playing the game since 2.0 came out, I feel like I have already gotten more than my money's worth, regardless of whatever timeline they originally published and future features that haven't been released yet. I understand that doesn't make me right and the OP wrong, it's a subjective estimation of value. I have already retrieved the value from my purchase, maybe the OP hasn't. And so that's the basis of my question: I am genuinely curious if the OP has enjoyed what they've experienced thus far in 2.0 and the dissatisfaction comes instead from unmet feature expectations by this time, or rather they don't even like where 2.0 is going regardless of unmet features, such as they don't like the engineers, etc. If the OP were willing to pay a subscription, that would suggest the former and not the latter, and therefore the issue is not really WHAT the OP paid for, but HOW they paid for it. Is it "I don't like where this season is going" or is it "I like this season but I'm not getting more fast enough"? If it's the latter, then the only alternative IS a subscription model, which would be more expensive in the long run.

I'm thinking they'll revisit their pricing model but it was a good deal in my book, I've really enjoyed the updates and following the process. Frontier do excellent work for a niche audience, this gibberish about them being moneygrubbers while the likes of Chris Roberts tool around in a limited edition Porsche paid for by lies and broken tech demos is almost too much!

Expansions and cosmetic sales seem like a good way to go to fund a peculiar longterm project like this. The minute they start selling Cutters and Anacondas I'll join Team Whiny and complain!
