Worried about 3.0 season/expansion

SEASON 3.0

Will be all about War / Faction / Aliens

The Empire and the federation will attack each other to take possession/information about alien technology from the Dr.

Season 3 will content :
New weapons
New modules
New Faction missions
New Large combat area

Thanks you

I'm not worried about season 3.

For me marketing headlines of aliens plus lots of under the hood consolidation and fleshing out of existing mechanics would actually be ideal IMO.

I'm not against space legs or atmospherics. I just feel there is so much more to add to the existing mechanics without adding headline grabbing features that really are just place holders. We need to be realistic about resources available.

I don't worry about those things!
It's simple, only atmospheric planets or legs(full scale legs, not just walking around ship) can make me to buy next season/dlc.
There are games with those features to be released soon so i'll play them (mass effect, infinity battlescape, even SC 3.0 alpha)

that will not sell any DLC, they need some big headlines, like legs or atmospheric landings, maybe season 3 are further away and a 2018 release?

I think there is quite a lot of low hanging fruit that can be added easily while we wait for planetary landing and walking.

1. Put our highly PAID SLF NPC crew in the freekin cockpit & expand their use with added commands. Like hey take this sidewinder and go pick up my connie from xyz. A ton of possibilities here.

The mission chains are a good step in the right direction and could lead to so much more.

With the alien story unfolding a hard bug cleanup pass and better NPC interactions especially for your hired NPC's with added functionality would hold me until we get more planets to land on and walking in ships/stations.

People who say there is no gameplay with "space legs" have no clue what is up... There is a massive amount of gameplay options that could be used in game. For example, eva into a blown up ship or disabled ship to see what is onboard. Perhaps you find the nav computer and take the exploration data. Could be worth 100,000 credits or perhaps 20,000,000 credits. You could do endless things with space legs unless you are lazy.

However, mark my words... If they skip "space legs" this game will bleed players to SC like you would not believe. You can think what you want to about how the games are different, ect ect... However, they ARE in fact competing with each other whether you like it or not...

Squadron 42 is unlikely to be dropping this year and SC is far further in the future than that, you'll be lucky to see it by 2020.

I suspect they didn't think they would get a opportunity to develop a game for a world renowned film franchise and that their third franchise would be something a lot smaller. That project is going to be sucking up a lot of Frontier resources for the foreseeable future an leave both Planet Coaster and Elite Dangerous short of personnel, I wouldn't be surprise if Planet Coaster April update is the last major update for a good few months, an Elite Dangerous next update 2.4 is the last major Elite dangerous update this year. Developing 3 games at one with just 300 staff is a huge challenge and probably is beyond Frontier capabilities.

I'm fairly sure the content currently being produced for Planet Coaster is only taking up a small number of the 150 or so people who were apparently working on it. Thats being the case I'd guess most would be switched to the new game.

Edit: OP shouldn't get worried over a game, it's just a game after all.

My money is on atmospheric worlds, not including earth-likes.
This would include gas giants and active volcanic planets.

This+1.

Especially because we got clues/hint :

1) During the season 2 unveil, there was a lot of talk about adding the atmospheric model for gas giants (just for the looks)
2) DB talking about gas giants lately.
3) at the end of season 1, talks about volcanism / caves.

me thinks : volcanic worlds+desert worlds+gas giants upper atmospheres will be 3.x stuff.

Agreed. I wonder about the market apeal for a season 3 that no one wants. We may never see space legs if Season 4 tanks, which it now very well do.

Look man, if spacelegs isnt done for S3, its not done. Its not as if its all completed and they have to decide when to release...

Same with elite if you include atmo planets and legs, even SC could have more content and depth with alpha 3.0 than elite so far.
Regardless these two games mass effect and infinity battlescape will be released in a year.

I would say it's all relative. First we need to define the term "far off" if you ask a toddler to walk 100 meters, it's a huge mind boggling distance.
for a normal adult not so, just a small distance. However it's still 100 meter no matter from where you see it.

So "far off" or a long way could be Q1 2018.

ME:A will draw people over for a period for sure.

I am sorry, but...

Revisit the second part of the stream from 1:08 onward, put your own hopes and wishes aside for a moment, and just listen very carefully and with an open mind to what he says.
Towards the end of the space leg related comments he even says "if we manage it, if we pull it off..."

Am i only the one to think space legs is really bad idea, and hope they never implement it ?

I'm with you brother. Complete waste of time and in my view is not what this game is about. ED is about being a space pilot.

Because SC has it is not a reason to argue that ED should have it. These are, after all, different games. Why would we want them to be the same? What is the point of that? I really can't understand why people use that argument. If you take it to its logical conclusion then all space games would end up the same and so we would effectively have just one game. I want SC to be different so I can enjoy that game in addition to ED and in a different way.

I wouldn't say never, but given the state of the game, IMO it would be a huge dev effort for not much actual gameplay.
I 100% get the allure of it, but I also see the lack of fondations to support legs properly in terms of gameplay at the moment.
Look at multicrew : it needs to go a long way before it'll feel polished/complete.

Exactly. Until season 2 is wrapped up, I see little point in getting wound up about season 3. I vaguely recall in the first season, everyone expected Frontier to demo planetary landings at E3 and the board went apoplectic when it was Planet Coaster instead. Any requests for indications as to what season 2 would be was met with silence or a "sorry, nothing to discuss now". I see the same holds true for now - we're all guessing what it will be (the debate for season 2 centred around planetary landings and EVA, some things never change ;)) but until Frontier officially tell us, then we just don't know. Sandy is in a tough situation because he probably does know where legs and atmospheric landings are in the pipeline, but does not have official clearance to say anything - especially on a PAX stream.

DBOBE will be the first to announce it and it is just a matter of when.

Mass effect only has 100 planets to explore.

Infinity Battlescape only has one planetary system, it won't have legs, it won't have weather systems and clouds which I'm sure Frontier will want for their planets, possible even seasons and multiple biomes.

SC is due to only have one star system in until 2018 which in CIG time is more like 2020 or 2021. SC 3.0 was suppose to be out before December, they only started planning for it in January.

The only challenge for Elite Dangerous is NMS who are developing their game pretty rapidly.

3.0 will need a big anker feature if they expect to sell it. This is why I suspect we won't see it until late 2018. Whilst the rest 2017 releases after 2.4, will be bug fixes and a infilling, adding puzzles and doing stuff like bringing the multicrew features to wings, an improving the NPCs, allowing store items as prizes for community goals, whilsts the core team goes about developing 3.0 features and possible fixing up the Cobra engine to do many of things they want it to be doing.
