I just attempted to land on an interestingly looking moon in a virgin system. I went to Orbital Cruise, then started to Glide. I ended up just above a canyon and suddenly my heat level went critical. I dropped a heat sink and tried to fly away a bit to see what happened. Then it went critical again. I dropped a second heat sink, quickly selected a random planet/moon and started my warp engines. I had to drop my last heat sink to survive even then.
What kind of a death trap did I get myself into? What did I do wrong? I wasn't close to any source of heat I could identify, the star was far away.
I would be grateful for any advice. I want to avoid such situations in the future.
