Germany, Netherlands and Switzerland and Sweden and Austria vs Turkey

Congratulations to these countries to have forbidden the Turkish authorities to make political campaigns. Shame for the France to accept a foreign government to come to Metz to promote its domestic policy. Can you imagine A.Merkel, or T.May, to make campaign in Turkey for domestic elections of the Germany and UK ? (I am a little ashamed of my country, the France, this evening :( )

Erdogan is worst thing to happen to Turkey since the second world war. He seems hell bent on taking his country over some undefined Islamic precipice. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he's been puppeted by Putin.

Yep, I can't believe we let that happen. That's a disgrace. Kuddos to those other countries who stood up against that clown maneuvers.

Oh wow, something we agree on. :D

I'm still convinced that he staged the (attempted) coup to justify silencing the opposition and arresting everyone who says something he doesn't like.

Well, the German Federal government has confirmed that of course we have freedom of speech here and of course they can hold meetings.
Too bad all of our venues are booked til ... 2025 .. yea, all of them.. yes, of course we double checked ;) :p

Merkel as usual gets flak for that, but I think Germany escalating the situation on a federal level would have been actually bad. Really really bad. Too easy spinning a totalitarian story out of that, given our past and such and distract from the real totalitarian forces at work.

We actually do owe the Netherlands for standing up as a country and risking that escalation. And especially the mayor of Rotterdam and the Dutch cavalry.

You found Erdogans Achilles crotch. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4jUdMOY_9Ho

Erdogan is a bad guy, a dictator in the true sense of the word. It is interesting that over the last few years, he has managed to make enemies of most people. He shoots down a Russian military jet and expects NATO to back him up and now he is having ago at Europe in general. He knows he will not be added to the E.U., basically because he can see that the E.U. has not real future and in his mind. Nothing to do with; his own countries human rights issues. He is the kind of guy to offer a pact with North Korea, just to cling onto power.

It is a shame that France has let the rallies happen, (interesting that this is the first I have heard of this, the UK news has not mentioned it as far as I am aware) however: France is a; a very 'free thinking' country, but I would not say that is was France's sense of liberty that allowed this to happen. More like it's Arabic percentage of population and the trouble the authorities would face on the streets, by saying no, because it would not just be the Turkish living there that would kick-off. Erdogan would make it about religion, to up the stakes, if he has not done so already.

Final point: He has already fixed the 'referendum', between cooking the books and the removal of any opposed to his own agenda.

The temerity of the man though makes me laugh. He accuses the Dutch (amongst the most decent folk I ever met) of being all far right and he's getting all gobby about it because he wants to concentrate more power into his own office. I remember some bloke with a funny little moustache in Germany doing that in the 1930's which ummmm led to the rise of ummmmm far right power.

Have to use "far right" the forum filter won't let me use the actual name of group that caused ww2. Sigh forum.

I especially liked that the reason for not allowing them to advertise for their referendum in Germany was not political, but the lack of fire safety and/or shortage of parking space. As much as I like to complain about the excessive German bureaucracy (there's no other country with so many laws, rules and regulations), sometimes it has its good sides.

The Netherlands call for the caution their nationals in Turkey --- We believe to dream to be obliged to call its nationals to the caution in a country which wants to adhere to the EU

This happens when a country cannot control its borders and cannot limit immigration, because it's overruled by unelected Eurocrats.

P.S. you don't have to put "the" in front of most country names.

That a Muslim Mayor can order the shutdown of an inner city against erdogan protesters? Yup.

And don't ever even try to pretend a german politician employing exactly the same tactic would not have been met with howling and third Reich comparisons beyond ridiculous.

He reads the Sun. Don't bother trying to explain anything to him.

I don't reply to explain to the posters, I reply to give a second opinion to those who read those posts and might have their doubts and care for different opinions.
You should know how I work by now. ;)
I'm.. Germanically annoying. :D

Dont forget we're two days from national elections, and the prime-minister is from the leading center-right party (VVD) and the mayor of Rotterdam is a key figure in the main center-left party (PvdA). With both being heavily under fire by Wilders (who is the leading 'extreme' person without clear side: party program is one page, refused all debates and didnt run his plans through independent prognostical calculations) for 'selling out our country to Muslims' this was a great opportunity for both to show where they stand. You know, as in 'real man act, losers tweet'. ;) Things might have been really different if Turkey had tried this next week...

He is doing wonders for Wilders’ Freedom party (PVV) and looking at todays Dutch papers online, they just got a massive boosts for DutchExit. France next then the slow death of the EU starts, what a great year this will be.

The paper only writes fake news, correct?

I wonder if turkey will pay me £500 not to write anything about their leader for a week or two.

I know you're joking, but that still hurts. The New York Times is The Paper of Record in the States. The disparagement of the Gray Lady is really unpalatable.
