I *do* care about this, but as a PB I'm not voting... however:

The PB 'perk should be the removal of the ridiculously unbalanced 50% insurance discount for Alpha. :p

If it's no big deal, then remove it. If it *is* a big deal, then it's unbalancing.

What if its a small deal?
Is it okay then?

Slightly off topic question - Are the insurance costs us Alphas have experienced in PB1 & PB2 inclusive of the 50% discount?

No. Discounts aren't in place yet.
I don't believe the current insurance number has much to do with what will be in the final game, either ?

Personally, and I'm in premium beta, I wouldn't have the gall to ask for an additional "perk". I have my "perk" already, it's the premium beta.

Alpha backers are special, because they paid for it, don't lessen their contribution by devaluing it.

I don't like lifetime perks and advantages for early adopters. Maybe a few years of perks, but not forever. That being said, I voted Yes because I am late to the game and want perks :D I would gladly pay for the perks if FD would take my money :)

What about letting Alpha and Beta backers use their Alpha or Beta ID# as a ship registration code - to be transferable for a small fee (in game)? It would compliment my Kickstarter decal nicely.

I always think asking for something is rude. The Alpha Backers didn't ask for a perk. That came out of the blue. As things like that should.

I fall into the camp that would like to see some little reward for supporting the game. A decal would be ideal. Because I am also in the camp that in game everything should be fair as far as possible, and a massive 50% off insurance costs doesn't seam fair.

But just to play devils advocate, how much of a benefit will it be? If trading then the insurance is a small part of the loss - you cargo is the killer. If your a pirate don't you lose credits when get killed to pay of your bounties? Given that we don't have all the game mechanics yet, can we really judge now what is best?

I voted no.
Call me insensitive to people who ask for free stuff (perk-begging, whatever).
Although I wouldn't be opposed to Frontier doing whatever THEY feel like doing.
Premium Beta decal would be great!
:D

I think part of the reason for my thoughts on this - and let me make it clear I do not think this is an "entitlement" (we all knew what we would get for pledging) - is the existence of the alpha perk (which admittedly wasn't asked for).

At first, I wasn't bothered with the alpha insurance perk, those guys had some nasty bugs to deal with and it seemed like a nice gesture (although the timing of it's announcement stank and it seemed like a money grab). But then after having played PB, and seen the huge costs of insurance, it became clear to me that it was a very big perk indeed. Game changing.

Before seeing those insurance numbers in PB, I figured that in the final game, after a month or two playing, the insurance would be a small drop in the ocean compared to the credits I would have accumulated. Unfortunately, my experience so far shows that it's tough making money by trading, and making money through combat is dangerous (as it should be). The penalty for dying, and the insurance money due, means the alpha perk is just too much.

My preferred outcome (which will never happen) is actually:
1) Get rid of the alpha perk, and/or
2) Reduce the insurance rates

I'm sure the insurance will get some tweaks, but at the moment, the thought of having a Cobra in the final game is terrifying. For every death, you need to make an awful lot of money - which realistically, with the way things are balanced at the moment, would be through combat - which puts you in more jeopardy. And given human players are generally tougher, this will drive people to play single player more and more.

Just my $0.02

I think its very greedy to be asking for perks when the majority of the Kickstarter backers and other interested gamers are patiently waiting to just even play the game yet. We want a good game that is all. Stuff the perks.

I wish they could do (1), but it's a contractual obligation. So unless all Alphas agreed to it, that's a no. And (2) doesn't really work, as the perk was stated as 50% discount on insurance, so whatever insurance is it'll be 50% of that.

That said, I'm glad you're saying player assets today won't necessarily always be higher than yesterday. Otherwise after a week we'll all be flying around in Imperial Couriers.

I voted yes - but only from the point of view that if some form of thx was on offer I certainly wouldn't knock it back - but in no way do I need it - quite happy with what I've gotten for my money in participating in the testing so far.

If we were to be granted some form of perk just from Premium Beta, I for one would not require it to be significant - would be happy with a decal or paintjob for my ship/s. I guess Frontier have set some form of precedent though with the 50% reduction of insurance costs for Alpha backers (which personally I think was a bit overboard - maybe 25% would have been more suitable), so I assume they would have something in mind for Premium Beta participants as well. 10 or 20% reduction of insurance costs perhaps, if they wanted consistency?

I don't think they have set a precedent at all. It was a thank you to the Alpha testers who forked over more than most to test the game, taking a risk doing so. That in no way means that FD are beholden to anyone to do this again.

They were actually selling Alpha access on their store for many, many months with that as one of the guaranteed benefits of shelling out TWO HUNDRED POUNDS! :D

It was advertised and thus a guaranteed perk for putting good money into their hands which helped them make a better game for everyone.

They dangled that carrot, and some people took the bite, and others chose not to.

*Everybody* who backed the game forked out money and took a risk - not just those at alpha level.

Alpha backers had all expectations met, and everything was delivered on time. Game access for them began in December 2013. Arduous, buggy? Of course. That's what an alpha is.

Beta access was supposed to start in January 2014. PBetas had to wait six months.

Let's be clear: the previous 'perks' were clearly and simply a sales aid to push more people into purchasing alpha slots.

Let us also remember that standard beta was supposed to start in February this year. They are still waiting.

Now as a PB personally, this is not a rant or a moan: I don't want any extra 'perks' and didn't mind the delay too much when it was for technical rather than sales reasons.

It is, however, interesting to see justifications for 'perks' for backers who got everything they paid/pledged/donated for on time, but not backers who paid/pledged/donated still significant amounts for a game and had to wait/are still waiting half a year.

So who's got the sense of entitlement?

I didn't vote because I don't really like the inflammatory wording of the question. If it was up to me (it isn't), I would vote for no perks whatsoever besides that which you signed up for originally.

I say that as a planet namer, station namer, launch party goer, DDF member, alpha backer, Premium Beta backer and all the rest.

The perks were outlined at the start back in November 2012. There's no need to do anything else with them.
