Are you Elite Dangerous?

choose the one that does not increase weight ... oh, wait ...

i'm too late to this thread... elte:elite:elite:helpless. for those of you. who intend to raise their combat rank for the grade 4 life support, my tip is: compromised nav beacons. take a pve optimised FDL or similar, and shoot elite eagles and elite sideys and elite adders there ... a lot of them.

And I have the sore shoulder to prove it.

I was combat Elite before Dangerous was a twinkle in Braben's eye. ;)

If it involves combat I am not going to bother, I will be happy with what I have thank you very much.

It's strange that the "solutions" to getting engineered upgrades for explorers that require combat is to get better at combat. Hey you combat pilots, want upgraded multicanons? get better at exploring.

I was dangerous (or deadly, I can't remember) before I wiped my save, so I doubt getting back there will be too difficult.
What's this idea that explorers suck at combat? Is it just that combat pilots suck at everything else and so expect that anyone else must be just as unskilled?

I should also say that if you're already Elite in exploration without the scanner upgrades, then um... what use are they except to make one lazy?
Looks to me like it's just a way to make it easy for combat pilots to get some exploration rank without leaving the comfort of the bubble.

Or just forget about the whole thing and not waste precious time, effort and fun to get a couple of LY extra jump range :)

I've never cared much about jump range, but I have to admit, a faster surface scan is somewhat tempting. :)

And hey, being afk in multicrew only wastes electricity (and if you work at home, you can use the PC to warm up the room, so you safe on the heating bill). I'm pretty sure the gold mining community will soon offer credits and combat ranks for reasonable prices. Everybody wins! (My internal Pollyanna is fighting an uphill battle here, I know. Even against me.)

I am on a quest to access all engineers, so yes, I’ve begun working on the combat rank as well as I’m doing mining (processed 195 tonnes out of 500 required) and other stuff.

Being a K+M player, it is difficult to unsuck in combat, but I’m making progress even though I was ganked in my exploration FdL with 0% paint. Whatever it takes. Since with 2.3 we’ll can finally properly set up the secondary controller, I might give combar a try with my cheapo Aliexpress controller I have.
The FdL can tank a lot even against Corvettes and also packs huge punch, but I also often engage in less risky situations (Threat: 1) with my Cobra MKIV.

I have a confession to make: although probably I’ll be never a king shooter with fixed mounts, I’m actually enjoying combat a lot! It certainly feels that a lot of effort went into refining it.

And guess what, the other day I was in open in a high intensity combat zone, a more experienced player joined and actually gave me hints and tips. He even healed my shields. So open isn’t all about ganking and griefing, only if your are reading the dangerous forums. :)

That's insane... you can cover 1000ly in 15 minutes or so I guess. I'd risk to say it is too much.

But they won't stop to actually "explore"... That range isn't needed, and barely useful. Some will want it of course, and some will use it to go further. But there isn't a lot further to go that a base 60 will get... That's what, 90ly with jumponium, and Cthulhu knows how far with a convenient neutron star - probably Andromeda - but getting back will be unfun.

That all depends...I hunt ELWs in the core, where there are a quarter of a million stars in one 80ly cube. Even though there is always a scoopable star within half a LY, the extra long range lets me (usually) plot a direct course to my next target star, without having to route plot at all, which in unfiltered is fairly fast now, but if you have systems filtered in that dense of an area, it can still take awhile to plot a course, even 3-4 systems long. The speed of 60 LY+ getting there doesn't hurt either.

I've tested both Faster Scan and Long Range Scan on the DSS. Guess what, they both equal each other out. I pointed at a planet and put throttle at 50%. The scan was complete in roughly the same light sec spot on both versions. IMO I prefer the faster scan because when you jump in you'll finish the star scan quicker. Can anyone else confirm my test in the beta?

7,000Ly/hr sounds awesome, CMDR. Spent 50 FSD rolls and got from 48% to 50% Optimal Mass. Felt a bit disappointed afterwards. Next time (when I've stopped cursing and waving fists at ED), I'll try a virgin module and do a 100 rolls, god help me.
